Why do people turn to violence? It is because sometimes it's the only way people know how to respond to their situation they are in. In today's society, violence happens all around us, usually when people want something to change. It can occur in large groups of people, or just a single person. Experts say, “31 percent of respondents to a WRAL News poll said they believe violence in entertainment is a major cause of mass shootings,”(Violent entertainment promotes aggression, experts say). Some cases violence in influenced by the music culture today, and even video games and movies. Although violence can as well be lead by pressure, “Such conditions enhance the chances of the teen to fall victim to commit criminal activities under peer pressure,“(How …show more content…
Believe it or not, but the truth is that today's world is sadly filled with violence. To reach ultimate power and control, Macbeth kills to become king. After killing Duncan, he says “I have done the deed.”(Shakespeare 2.2 16). All the violent acts he has done has led to his success. Today's world someone who uses this technique to gain overall power is Kim Jong Un. This man does not care to get his hands dirty. CNN says, "The assassination of Kim Jong Nam was an act of systematic terror ordered by Kim Jong Un"(Kim Jong Un 'ordered' half brother's killing, South Korean intelligence says). He has the audacity to kill someone part of his own family for his own needs, to gain more power. That must be one of the cruelest things someone can do. These are closely related since they both share the same cruelty in them. Both killing for something they desire more of. An additional act of violence is caused by MacDuff. When he wanted to avenge his family, and kill Macbeth, who was the current leader. He wanted change, the only way to reach change like that would be through violence. MacDuff says, “Since that the truest issue of thy throne By his own interdiction stands accursed, And does blaspheme his breed? (Shakespeare Act IV Scene III 104-108). This shows how he does not trust Macbeth ruling the country, and that he needs to stop him. On the other hand protesters today use violence to get there ideas acknowledged. When they are not happy with something, they demand change. Especially with the recent new president election. Usa Today says, “About 4,000 protesters assembled downtown late Thursday chanting “we reject the president-elect!... outburst of smashed windows and a dumpster fire in Portland”(Anti-Trump protests, some violent, erupt for 3rd night nationwide). Turning to violence is the only way for these people to be noticed. The type of violence from
The Essential Macduff in Macbeth & nbsp; Like in all (or most) Shakespeare plays, there is always a hero that overcomes evil supernatural forces. Macduff is an essential character in this play. His loyalty and patriotism to his dear country, Scotland, is more exceeding unlike the likes of the other Scottish nobles, Macduff was devastated by the murder of his dear king, and he also somewhat sacrifices his family for his country. These three transactions add up to one hell of an admirable hero. Conflict of forces is reflected in the character of Macduff.
In recent years our society has experienced many tragedies in which teens have committed heinous crimes for no apparent reason. What inspired these attacks by teens on innocent victims? We live in a violent world and young people are exposed to this violence whether it's by television, music or the Internet. Video games have come under increased scrutiny as to whether or not the simulated violence in video games numbs children and teens to the consequences of real-life violence.
In the play, Macbeth started out as an extremely brave and loyal solider. However, after the three witches told him he was to be king one day, he changed completely, being wholly consumed by his greed. He turned his back on his friends, betrayed them, and murdered innocent people. All of this can be linked back to the predictions made by the witches.
Macbeth proves three things by himself in the book: that desire should not be used in the place of reason when making decisions, that violence when used to obtain a desire leads to more violence, and that the violence will not stop until the one that chooses violence because of desire is on the other end of the violence.
Humans are always fascinated by power. Sadly, they do not realize the danger of it until it is too late. In the play Macbeth, William Shakespeare's underscores how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are both consumed by power. In the beginning, Lady Macbeth dominates Macbeth, manipulating him to kill Duncan. After the death of Duncan, Macbeth becomes ambitious, and hires murderers to kill Banquo without notifying Lady Macbeth. Even though he is a decorated soldier, when Macbeth rises to power, he becomes ruthless. On the other hand, Lady Macbeth becomes weak, and insane. Shakespeare illustrates how Macbeth’s obsession with power undermines his moral judgement, leads to his mental deterioration, and ultimately results in his death.
The drastic measures for the attainment of power are necessary for any upcoming ruler to obtain what they desire. Macbeth had the right ambitions and aspirations when stepping up to rule Scotland, but unfortunately the increase in power increased his greed and paranoia which also painted a larger target upon his back. The people did not appreciate the means of how he obtained his power and especially did not appreciate the ways he kept and defended it. No evidence in the play exists to say Macbeth ruled as a tyrant one could speculate he was an excellent ruler like many that came before him but that would be a large speculation to make. Under the circumstances, Macbeth had great potential, but became corrupted and sank due to his greed, desires, and the opinion of his
As he was already battling, he could not be expected to be at home when his country needs him. In murdering these people, Macbeth gains more power, and becomes the King quicker. In killing the King's Servants, Macbeth is seen as pure, and not to blame, keeping the blood off of his hands.

Violence is the use of one's powers to inflict mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, plays, music, and novels. Through the course of this essay it will be proven that violence in entertainment is a major factor in the escalation of violence in society, once this is proven we will take all of the evidence that has been shown throughout this paper and come to a conclusion as to whether or not violence in entertainment is justified and whether or not it should be censored.
What drove him to become a power hungry tyrant was his wife. She put ideas in his head that changed him. A day before Macbeth would not speak of the idea of killing the king and now he was considering it. By killing the Duncan, gaining the title and king, and not being caught, Macbeth was given an enormous boost. He now felt invincible and let power finally get to him and corrupt him. With this new amount of power, Macbeth was not willing to let it slip away. To protect his power, he did whatever was necessary. Macbeth cowardly had Banquo killed, going against everything he ever believed in. Killing Banquo was not enough for Macbeth. Shakespeare shows to the audience how power can make a person go higher in the world but at the same time make them more vulnerable. Macbeth was now vulnerable, to solve this he sent the murderers to kill Macduff.
Macbeth chooses the wrong path to accomplish his ambition. Killing Duncan is wrong and he knows it but can’t help himself. An example for dominance of power in addition to Macbeth can be presented in Brian De Palma’s movie Scarface. Al Pacino as Tony Montana creates excessive wealth from distributing cocaine because he thrives for power. As the movie progresses, the drugs make him crazy and he kills more and more people who die in violence followed by the main character. Similarly, Macbeth’s ambition for power becomes his weakness which finally brings tragedy to his character. He is a tragic hero because he can’t seem to help himself even though in the beginning he was good and was a hero in Scotland. Similarly to Dr. Mathur, Faith Nostbakken argues that “The witches do not completely determine Macbeth’s actions. If they did, Macbeth would simply be a victim rather than a tragic figure who suffers the consequences of his own choices. As he wades deeper and deeper into his own darkness, pulling the kingdom down with him, the weird sisters spur Macbeth to his own corruption…In the service of evil rather than good, they equivocate in their prophecies, encouraging destructive behavior.” (Understanding Macbeth
In the play, Macbeth by William Shakespeare has a strong theme of power. Macbeth is a king who is given three predictions from three witches, one of which is that he will become king. The one problem is he doesn’t know what he has to do in order to become king. His wife then decides that in order for him to become king, he must kill the current king. This one murder then leads to others in order to cover the original murder up. Once Macbeth becomes king, he doesn’t want anything to change, he wants to stay king until he dies. He then begins to kill again, but instead of killing to cover something, he is killing anyone who stands in his way of staying king. Macbeth’s fate is affected by the personality trait of bravery, his ability to be manipulated, and his determination.
Although lyrics are seen as the most likely reason for teen violence to occur, it is questionable as to why? Lyrics allow the listener to interpret the music in any which way they so choose, and for the majority of the time, the listener doesn’t process the lyrics effectively. Lyrics are under the most scrutiny due to explicit content, but when rapper ‘Precise’ was interviewed, he said he didn’t feel the need to kill any one, or bring harm to anyone. Video games, where are actually interactive, force the participant to do the killing, punching, or any other method of violence the game brings, which is what should raise concern to parents and media across the nation.
Lady Macbeth is the one who led Macbeth to kill, by convincing him that he will be a king by murdering King Duncan. He chooses treachery and crime, knows them for what they are and is totally aware he is doing evil. Lady Macbeth is the one who is really tempted.
Violence is defined as "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation” (Krug). The theme of violence is evident throughout Macbeth. In the characters’ thoughts, actions, words, and intentions. Rivalry, jealousy, and ambition all lead to violence among the characters.
Cruelty, it has bled and woven its way throughout Shakespeare’s narrative of Macbeth, sharing that of a universal theme exhibited throughout humanity. According to The English Oxford Dictionary, “cruel” is interpreted as “willfully causing pain or suffering to others, or feeling no concern towards it.” The term “willfully” conoates to that of personal intention, with full knowledge of the consequences. Shakespeare's Macbeth interprets the title of cruelty as an inhuman act.
