"This play tells the story of the Scottish general Macbeth, who receives a prophecy from three witches that one day he will become King of Scotland" (Shakespeare p. 1). This text is the complete play script of Shakespeare's Macbeth, published in 2003 by Pelican Books. It follows the tragic descent of Macbeth after he is prophesied to become king. Upon learning he will one day rule Scotland, Macbeth plots with his wife to murder the current king Duncan and take the throne for himself. The play charts Macbeth's rising paranoia and tyrannical rule as his guilt overwhelms him. I plan to reference this primary text extensively in my research paper analyzing the moral corruption of Macbeth. Quotes directly from Shakespeare's language will support my discussion of how Macbeth's lust for power destroys his humanity. Referencing specific scenes will provide concrete examples to back up my analysis of his declining character.
