True to the name, this lasagna contains eggplant, which is from southeastern Asia. This lasagna has ingredients which are all mainly from the “Old World”. Some of the them include oregano, thyme, and ricotta cheese, which are all from Italy. The only ingredient that is from the Americas is one that is in the marinara sauce, and that is tomatoes. Technically, this lasagna could be made with pesto sauce, with herbs already located in the “Old World”. However, the recipe calls for marinara sauce. This dish could have existed without the exchange, provided that a pesto sauce was substituted for the marinara sauce. Still, most would prefer the marinara sauce to the pesto sauce in a

He invented a tiny elevator called a "dumbwaiter" to carry things up to his dining room from the basement. Jefferson also invented storm windows, a chair that turned, and much more, (Patterson 25).
As the crafter of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson is widely viewed as the creator of America. His vision of human rights forms the basis for the Declaration, and his early years formed his vision of the world. There’s a lot more to being Italian than the typical stereotypes that we have come to know from movies, television and books. From the Catholic mobsters who kill during the week but always make it to mass on Sunday, to the “how you doin” views of Joey from the television show “Friends”, people often forget the more important parts of being Italian. It is a culture like no other, full of history, art, and most importantly, their passion for food. Italian food, in my opinion, is the best in the world. Italians put so much into everything they make that the time and effort is tasted with every single bite. One of my favorite dishes would have to be fettuccini alfredo and it just happens to be a fairly easy, but extremely delicious, dish to make. Trust me, if I can make it, you can make it.
Breakfast for the kids -? Pop Tarts and Nutri-Grains, maybe an egg if she feels generous. The invention of paper plates and plastic silverware (bare hands may be a bit barbaric and unclean) has put an end to washing dishes, given that whatever was defrosted did not come with one.
When I think about Italy, food and wine come to mind. Many foods we love are part of the Italian culture, pizza, pasta, cheese, and some desserts. Wine is one of my favorites and there is plenty of it in Italy. Some people in Italy make a living from having wineries. These people have hundreds of acres of land full of grape vines. Most of the wine we drink in America comes from Italy. “Italy is also now the largest exporter of wine a...

Most evidence suggest that the first slices originate from Naples, an Italian city. Naples was largely known for its “throngs of the working poor” (Turim 2), otherwise known as lazzaroni’s, flatbreads with numerous toppings seasoned on them. Toppings include “tomatoes, cheese, oil, oil, anchovies, and garlic” (Turim 2). These were easily made and inexpensive dishes that could be eaten at any meal of the day. Lazzaroni’s were also popular with street vendors; the rich disapproved of the dish and thought the poor’s eating habits were disgusting.
Pasta did not originate during the thirteenth century. A popular myth, pasta originated from Marco Polo’s voyage back from China, when he brought back noodles to Venice. According to food historian Serventi et al. (2003, p211) the myth originated in the 1920s from Macaroni Journal as an American promotional policy. In fact pasta originated 4,000 years ago. According to a national geographic article the preserved bowl of noodles was found below ten feet of dirt in Laija archaeological site (Roach, 2005). The bowl of noodles found at the Laija archaeological site in Northern China is significant because it is the earliest empirical evidence of noodles. Huoyuan Li from the Institute of Geology found that the 4,000 year old noodles were made from broomcorn and foxtail millet grains at the Beijing Chinese Academy of Sciences. Roach argues that millet grain was indigenous to China because the grain was grown and cultivated 7,000 years ago (Roach, 2005).
