The author’s use of symbolism in “The Gift of the Magi” helps the reader understand the theme of sacrifice. Della’s long hair represents the sacrifice she is willing to make because she is not hesitant to give up her most valued feature for someone she appreciated. When Jim walks in the door, Della explains her situation, “I had my hair cut off and sold because I couldn't have lived through Christmas without giving you a present” (pg 4). Della did not have sufficient funds to afford a gift yet she was still determined to gather money for Jim’s Christmas present. Leading her to make a large sacrifice for herself to benefit her loved one. This action proves that even though she did not have many prized possessions of her own, she does not hesitate
Although the Sesame Street video and the story versions of "The Gift of the Magi" were both different, there were some similarities between them. One difference was the relationships between the characters in both versions. In, the video Bert and Ernie are best friends living together. But, in the story Della and Jim are husband and wife. Another difference is the gifts the characters got and what they traded for it. On the video Bert trades his paperclip collection for a soap dish intended for Ernie's rubber duck. Also, Ernie traded his rubber ducky for a empty cigar box intended for Bert's paperclip collection. However, in the story Della trades her hair for a Fob that was intended for Jim pocket watch, which was nicknamed "The Watch." While,
During the 15th century, Europe started to have different cultural traditions that impacted the type artwork of artwork that was produced. There are several elements that have evolved during this time. Two artworks will be compared so that we will be able to evaluate how various techniques that are used can be used to portray the meaning of the painting as well as how the audience views the scene as well. One of the paintings that we will compare is a Annunciation panel (from the Merode Triptych), which was painted by Robert Campin in 1426. This painting will be compared to Holy Trinity, which was created by Masaccio in 1425. By comparing these two paintings, we will get a sense of what themes and ideals were valued during this time period.
The increase of wealth during the twelfth century allowed artists to showcase their talents in churches. The apse titled Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists in the church of Santa Maria de Mur displays the representation of divinity through its subject matter, technique, and style. In the apse, the main subjects revolve around scenes from the Old and New Testament with Christ as the focal point. For technique, the artist employed fresco painting instead of mosaics to show the images. The style of the apse avoids a sense of realism by hiding the bodies of the figures in the drapery and using the hierarchy of scale.
Towards the beginning of the tale, it is stated that “Give alms to the poor. If you expect God’s help it is necessary that you also help the church. You know that when you make a donation to God, He returns it a hundredfold” (1616). This conveys to the reader that as long as one were to dedicate his or her time to bettering themselves and staying true to their word in everyday life as well as to God, that they would be blessed by God, whether it be through means of good fortune or the promise of future opportunities for themselves and their family. This would serve as an important lesson for children to keep in mind throughout their lives because this would in turn make them Godly
Various symbols are used in "The Lesson," by Toni Cade Bambara, to represent the social and economic inequality faced by the children in this story. The children, not that they asked for it, are dealt the bad hand by fate. It is up to them to decide what to do about it or even to do anything at all.
Set in the “not-too-distant future,” GATTACA, directed by Andrew Niccol, shows us a society where DNA determines your status. The film explores the significant idea of discrimination which is shown through Vincent’s character. The director’s use of techniques helped influence my understanding of the consequences of discrimination within society. Society discriminates against “in-valids” because they believe invalids aren’t as good as valids.
The Interpretation/Meaning (III) will be written without any guideline points, the aim of this part will be to determine what the painter wanted to express with his piece of work and what it tells us in a symbolic or not instantly clear way. This part will also handle why the artist drew the painting the way he did it and why he chose various techniques or tools.

In the play titled Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, Minnie Foster Wright is being accused of murdering her husband, John. In this production, Mrs. Wright is consistently referenced, and although she is not witnessed, she is very recognizable. There are important symbols in this play that signifies Mrs. Wright and her existence as it once was and as it currently exists to be. Jim and Della gave gifts that were also the same. They were prized possessions but the gifts they bought was combs for her hair and a chain for his watch. They bought these things to add to the importance of their possessions, but in the end the greatest gift they had was their love for each other. I personally think that if you really love someone a gift or the price of

In the short story “The Gift Of The Magi” O.Henry uses irony and symbolism to greatly impact the experience of the story. In the story, it’s Christmas time and a couple is trying to give each other gifts. In the beginning Della is desperate in selling her hair to have some money to buy a gift for Jim.She does find someone that will pay for her long beautiful hair and spends the day going through stores to find the perfect gift for Jim's watch. As the story continues Jim gets home sees that Della has cut her hair. As they looked at each other they realized Della has given up her hair to buy Jim a chain for his watch and Jim had sold his watch for combs for Della's beautiful hair. O.Henry uses irony and symbolism throughout the story “The Gift Of The Magi”
The Most Precious Present Many times we express our love by giving presents that we can afford, but real love is shown through sacrificing to make the other person happy. This is why the couple in O. Henry’s, “The Gift of the Magi,” stay hopeful and their love remains, considering all the circumstances of financial difficulties. The theme is then inferred to be that love is shown through the sacrifices made not the possessions given. Henry supported this theme by the use of foreshadowing, internal conflict, and situational irony.
The Virgin Mary Statue Kindergarten through fourth grade was absolutely beautiful. We all sat together at lunch, played tag together on the playground, laughed and listened to the teachers together in class. Then fifth grade rolled around, and all my friends started to evolve, and for the worse as I saw it. We all started noticing things that we weren’t aware of before. We used to be like a bunch of happy naked babies, absolutely oblivious to the fact that we were all unclothed and different from one another.
