It is encouraging to know that if you are dedicated to learning and willing to put forth the effort, you can accomplish amazing things. By no means do I wish to be a famous photographer, but I do have a desire to travel and share stories with those around me, and it is encouraging to know that I can still accomplish these things without being “educated” in that particular field. Another reason why I find Addario inspiring is that she is a woman. I am not attempting to make a feminist stand, however, the fact that she was able to travel into areas that many of us would not dare to is phenomenal. She was detained by forces loyal to Muammar Qaddafi and was abused, yet boldly shared her story. Lastly, and most important to me, is her that her camera lens is aimed at exposing injustice. I am a social work major and I have enjoyed seeing how others bring to light what is in the darkness. A picture is worth a thousand words and she has chosen to use those words to be a voice for the voiceless. Her work has inspired me to be creative and innovative in my fight for justice. She has inspired me to inquire how I can share what breaks my heart in a way that challenges audiences to want to join with me in the fight against racism, sexism, marginalization, and many more injustices that currently plague our

The thing that I specifically admire is the way she copes with the way she was brought up. She was brought up, to learn to use her power when she could to get money or food, or whatever she needed, but she knows that it isn’t right to steal, and it isn’t right to use a power that nobody else has to get something that you actually don’t deserve.

Kathryn Stockett is one of the most outstanding writers out there to this day, and this is proven by many of the a awards she has won, including Oscars she has won, and surprisingly she had only written one book. Her book "The Help" is one of the most touching and moving books of our time, even though many can't relate to these stories, many can just feel the sadness and empathy for these women. This book has really opened my eyes about issues I haven't even noticed existed that poorly and due to this book it has made me change my perspective on many things I strongly believe about before. This book also shows you the lives of many African America women who only wanted an equal chance in society, but was not given the opportunity to be treated fairly or even civil like a person should be treated.

Growing up in my generation, I have become very passionate about advocacy and peer education. I became passionate about these things as a result of always being the minority in a room of those who know little about different cultures and diversity. I was always surrounded by people who only expanded their minds to what they new and never considered the other sides. ...that this course has provided me with substantial information to continue to increase my abilities to create beautiful imagery. I have developed a more discerning eye, which I believe has elevated my ordinary photographs to inspirational photographs. I am not a professional photographer, but a better understanding of the settings, the exposure, and working with light are a necessity. In addition, composition is key. My conclusion at the start of the course was accurate as I intimated that looking at a subject field with your eyes gives you a particular perspective, but looking through a camera lens takes experience and a good working knowledge to elevate the image to the artistic level. My new place in photography is elevated to appreciate the process more and respect the value of a great photograph. It’s subjective and that is why photography is truly an art!
