"Lupus"
Systemic lupus erythematosus, or simply lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease or immune system malfunction. A person's immune system normally protects the person from viruses, bacteria and other foreign materials. When a person has an autoimmune diseases like lupus, the immune system turns against itself and attacks itself.
Lupus does not have a known cause, and because of that it has no known cure. The exact cause of lupus is unknown, but scientists suspect that it is likely to be a combination of factors, people who contract lupus are probably genetically predisposed to lupus, and know that environmental factors such as infections, antibodies, ultraviolet light, extreme stress and certain drugs play a critical role in triggering lupus.
Managing lupus is different from person to person. Individuals with lupus can usually live a normal life span. Medications are usually prescribed to patients, although treatment is not required at all times, but most patients will undergo some treatment. Some medications that are often prescribed for people with lupus are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen, corticosteroids, antimalarials and immunomodulating drugs. The treatment goal for lupus is to stop the immune system from attacking & destroying vital organs. Another popular treatment for lupus is simply exercising and eating right.
Since we have no known cause of lupus, you cannot prevent it. It is sometimes referred to as a chronic diseas...
...se it eventually kills. I learned about Lupus from my mother who struggles to be healthy on a daily basis and also from my aunt who thought she was dying from Liver failure, but it was the Lupus that eventually killed her. I only hope that you have come to understand Lupus and the unpredictable nature that accompanies it.
One of the prevalent ideas in Andersen’s fairy tale was the importance of family. In the beginning of the text he goes into detail about Ariel’s early life and the bond she has with her sisters and grandmother, who all helped raise her. Ariel’s family also were to ones to save her soul, as it was the sacrifice that her sisters made which saved her from withering away to seafoam. The saving of her soul is another significant idea that is present in the text. Not only does Ariel want to find love with the price, she also wants to have an eternal soul, similar to that of humans when the ascend to heaven. This is also an example of religious exploration in Andersen’s writing. When watching the Disney adaption, love is one key idea that is present of the majority of the film. Ariel’s main motivation to become human is so she can marry the prince, who she has fallen in love with from afar. While this is present in Andersen’s version, it is not as predominant. there is a brief cameo of the sister in the beginning of the film, however there is no mention of the grandmother. Overall, family is not an important idea in the film. There is also no reference to eternal souls, or any afterlife, which also showcases the lack of religious element in the film. There are other details that are censored in

The inspiring tale of The Little Mermaid conveys to readers that one does not need to change themselves to please another as well as do, by any means, follow your dreams; they will come true if you truly do believe in them. Sixteen year-old, Ariel, is an adventure-seeking mermaid that has been constraint and by her father to remain isolated under the sea and never look beyond into the outside world. She soon then rebels against her father’s demands when she falls deeply in love with Eric, a mortal man and pleads to the portentous witch Ursula, to transform her into a human. Agreeing to this, Ursula’s only charge in return was that Ariel gives Ursula her (Ariel’s) beautifully haunting voice. Voiceless, Ariel leaves everything she was acquainted with, her only motivation being her love, to a foreign land for a sole purpose; to gain the affection of her true love. Ariel’s sacrifices and tiring efforts are reciprocated when Eric returns the same affection towards her, both mute and ultimately, the mermaid....
Disney Princess movies target children and are none other than a transfigured fairytale story in which innocence and moral virtue are questioned. In pursuit of romance and having the mindset of doing whatever it takes for love, Disney creates this magical world and targets the youth, especially young girls. Walt Disney was a creative and “radical filmmaker who changed [one’s] ...
Imagine being forced to crawl and hide with gunshots near your ears. Imagine seeing people shot to death in front of you. Believe it or not, scenes like these occur on a daily basis in America. In the first 320 days of this year there were 325 mass shootings in the nation, defined as where there were more than four victims at each shooting. (Mass Shooting Tracker). This egregious level of violence is unacceptable in a developed country and major reform in gun legislation to improve the tragic state of public safety in the United States today. Although critics of expanded gun legislation incorrectly argue that easier access to guns increases safety and that gun laws are unconstitutional, it is imperative that America adopts stronger gun control legislation because heightened regulations reduce crime rates and have successfully improved public safety in other developed countries. In a country like the United States, no one
Every disease should have a treatment. Lyme disease has many treatments. Antibiotic drugs such as doxycline, amoxicillin, penicillin, and erythromycin are treatments for Lyme disease. There is a new vaccine for the disease. Its name is LYMErix TM.
...depicts human love as a product of maturity, whereas Disney depicts it as a cause of maturity” (Trites 4). This fundamental change of maturity in Disney’s version is where the problem rests, teaching audiences that seeking a mate is the path to maturity and independence for women, when in reality love is complicated and ever changing. The “disneyfication” of The Little Mermaid perpetuates negative aspects of American cultural ideals, losing the moral integrity and lessons intended to be taught from the original fairytale.
Parallax is defined as “any alteration in the relative apparent positions of objects produced by a shift in the position of the observer” (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 1). Parallax is commonly used to measure distances between celestial bodies, such as planets and stars. Parallax is measured using angles that are much smaller than a degree. Arcminutes are one sixtieth of a degree and arcseconds are one sixtieth of an arminute. One example of the infinitesimal size of an arcsecond could be the width of a dime from a point of view two kilometers away (“Cool Cosmos”). These units of measurement are used in the parallax formula, or the formula used to calculate distance when given an object’s parallax measurement. The distance given from the parallax formula is in parsecs, which are 3.26 light years or 3.18x10^13 kilometers (“PARALLAX”). The parallax formula can be written as “distance = 1/parallax” (“PARALLAX”).
Will gun control stop harm or protect citizens? Today, the opinions of Americans vary on whether guns harm or protect citizens. However, gun control is not a new controversial issue. In 1924, U.S. Senator, Robert La Follete, said, “Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” This proves that gun control has been a concern to Americans since the mid- twentieth century, and possibly even earlier than that. Even with the U.S. laws limiting the access of guns, it has not stopped the misuse of guns. Thirteen school shootings have been recorded in the United States within the first six weeks of 2014. Gun control is an effort to stop crimes by limiting who can access guns. Guns are very powerful weapons that have a great impact on society. They can change a family’s life forever. The destruction they cause cannot be reversed or taken back, and one trigger could take a person’s life away. For these reasons, government interference is needed to restrict the harm guns can cause. The U.S. government should place more limitations on guns because of the carelessness and misuse of guns, which has led to an increasing number of crimes and violent actions against the innocent.
By the late 1900s, approximately five billion human beings occupied planet Earth. Whether they crawled on top of comfortable carpets or scurried across dark alleys, five billion people carried the ability to not only walk on the earth, but also to shape it, to mold it with their footsteps. Among this era's sculptors that molded the ground below them with their various talents was Walt Disney, a man who grew up to become a film producer, a screenwriter, a director, an animator, an entrepreneur, an international icon and a philanthropist. With his imagination, ambition, and a little help from a special mouse, Disney transformed both the entertainment industry and international culture itself. He pioneered full-color animated cartoons, created "the happiest place on Earth", and introduced the world to inspiring family movies that to this day encourage both children and adults alike to pursue their dreams and chase happiness. However, while Disney's movies all end with a "happily ever after", the actual tales the movies are based on are far from happy; they are rather morbid, realistic and poignant. The Little Mermaid, Disney's movie about a young princess lusting after a prince, serves as an example of a story in which Disney strayed far from the actual tale. The basis of Disney's feel-good, family movie is Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, which shocks readers with the death of the mermaid's beloved prince, the mermaid's awareness of her physical pain, and the loss of her innocence. Analyzed through a psychoanalytical lens, both Walt Disney's and Hans Christian Andersen's A Little Mermaid displays female subjectivity in favor of a dominant patriarchal world.
The exact causes of depression seem to differ immensely, but there are some who believe that it maybe caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, or that it may even be hereditary. Still there are others who believe that it is a combination of social, biological, emotional, psychological, and economical influences that may cause someone who has no family history of depression to develop even a mild case of depression.
I can understand how many parents are blinded to the negative effects of Disney movies, and their princesses. When they get a movie for their kid they probably say to themselves, “They’re made for children, so they must be okay, right?” Wrong. Just as Henry Giroux, the writer of the book, “The Mouse that Roared: Disney and the End of Innocence” believes that Disney movies have a negative impact on the children that watch them, I believe that as well. Disney movies can teach young girls stereotypes of the ideal body image, how they should act, and unrealistic expectations of love.
One of the most common mysteries in the world is the development of autoimmune diseases. An autoimmune disease is when the immune system, which usually keeps your body healthy thinks that your healthy cells are antigens and attacks them. This is irony right? It is against properties of evolution for an immune system to attack itself causing sickness and possibly death if untreated. There are about 80 different types of autoimmune diseases, which usually have periods of little to no symptoms and worsening symptoms. What particularly creates confusion in the world is the autoimmune disease, inflammatory bowel disease, which affects almost about five million people worldwide.
The biggest difference that Disney had to make was the ending. In the story the mermaid fails to get the prince to love her and instead dies to become a daughter of the air. However this is still a sort of happy ending as she can still get an immortal soul. In the Disney version though this story is not only too deep and overcomplicated for little kids, it is also very sad. So Disney remade the ending too the sea witch dieing and the little mermaid getting happily married.
