The story LUCAS by Kevin Brooks, is a story about sticking up for what’s right even when everyone around you are doing what’s wrong. LUCAS is the story of a 15-year-old girl named Cait who is trying to find herself. Cait describes herself as socially awkward. We all experience different things in life. However, not all, have been through some of the experiences Cait has, experiences that will change her perspective on life, and haunt her forever. The story begins with Cate McCann talking about her summer and when she first met a boy named Lucas. As soon as I read those first few pages, I could tell that the book was going to amaze me. Chait’s story may not be a happy one, but it is one that will teach you a lesson about life. The first time …show more content…
The hardest thing I had to come to terms with while reading LUCAS is that it's difficult to acknowledge and never know. Along these lines, I read this book once more. To impart Lucas' story to everybody as well as to increase some conclusion for myself. This book was shocking. Not because it wasn't composed well or because it was exhausting to read but since it was and still is the BEST BOOK I have ever read. It abandons you with a mind full of uncertainty and sadness. This book was heartbreaking. The last few pages were the hardest to persue. Indeed, even long after putting the book down at whatever point my mind meandered to Lucas I'd be prepared to break down in tears. The agony just felt so genuine for me. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone unless you know you can deal with reading and encountering one of the most exceedingly terrible human qualities conceivable. Hatred. This book will abandon you leaving you greatly discouraged. In general, LUCAS makes you value the smaller things in life, additionally makes you mindful of society and gives you the lesson; similarly, as speedy as they can befriend you, they can turn on you. The book LUCAS by Kevin Brooks is extremely violent and haunting. LUCAS is a unforgettable novel that will haunt you with an eerie feeling for the rest of your

Fans of the novel found that the way the novel is written, you never want to put it down and the action keeps things moving and is quite entertaining. The novel pulls you in and makes you love each of the main characters in it. This is a great series for anyone to read, and it is audience friendly for whoever reads them. There is quite a bit of suspense that will make the novel exceed readers 's expectations, and the twists and turns keeps you guessing and lets nothing be predictable. Some like the way this group of people bands together when they really need to and keep things together so they can all stop the
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
Lucas was one of the main characters that experienced many family comforts and conflicts in the novel, and also has some defining moments. Lucas provides comfort towards Bo when Bo was participating the Yukon Jack’s race. Bo states that “Dad was out of nowhere when I rose out of the water” (Crutcher 272). This means that Bo
This book is a very interesting read, if you have some self discipline. I mean that you need some self discipline because this book didn’t really captivate me in the sense that I couldn’t put it down. But after reading it for a while, I started to appreciate the author’s way of describing the characters and actions in this book.
I loved this book, it is so incredibly moving and you want to cry and
I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction books where the characters learn life-altering lessons. I also feel that people of all ages would enjoy this book because it’s messages and theme was very positive. While I did enjoy this book, I think I will not be reading another historical fiction novel for my upcoming book response.
Although this book had no major affect on me, I learned how a boy can go through traumatic experiences and still have the will power to keep going on. That was the only thing that really affected me in the whole book.
a. Miles Roby: Dynamic, main character in the story and operator of the Empire Grill. While Miles spends the duration of the book trying to flee Empire Falls- his dream is nearly achieved as a teenager when he attends a small Catholic college in New York. But his dreams are cut short when his mother becomes ill and he needs to return to the town to work to provide for his mother's medical expenses. Everything seems to be holding Miles in Empire Falls until Mrs. Whiting (a very influential and controlling figure in Mile’s life) dies in a struggle for control.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
Michael MacDonald’S All Souls is a heart wrenching insider account of growing up in Old Country housing projects located in the south of Boston, also known as Southie to the locals. The memoir takes the reader deep inside the world of Southie through the eyes of MacDonald. MacDonald was one of 11 children to grow up and deal with the many tribulations of Southie, Boston. Southie is characterized by high levels of crime, racism, and violence; all things that fall under the category of social problem. Social problems can be defined as “societal induced conditions that harms any segment of the population. Social problems are also related to acts and conditions that violate the norms and values found in society” (Long). The social problems that are present in Southie are the very reasons why the living conditions are so bad as well as why Southie is considered one of the poorest towns in Boston. Macdonald’s along with his family have to overcome the presence of crime, racism, and violence in order to survive in the town they consider the best place in the world.
Sidewalk is a book written by Mitchell Duneier, an American sociology professor at Princeton University, in 1999; where the book has gained a lot of favorable reviews, leading its winning the Los Angeles Times Book prize and C. Wright Mills Award. Similarly, the book had become a classic in urban studies, especially due to the interesting methodology, which was used by Duneier while he was conducting his research. The book is based on observations, participant observation and interviews, which gave the author the ability to live and interact with the book and magazine vendors on daily bases. Although, this gave him an insight into the life of the sidewalk, many methodological issues have concerned scholars and students of sociology since the day this book was published. Duneier had admitted during the book that he couldn’t be completely subjective while conducting his research and writing his book due to his involvement and personal relationship with people who work and live at the sidewalk, which raise the question, whether the research is still relevant if the researcher is only giving us an objective outcome?
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and believe it to be one of the best books I have ever read. It was extremely well written and challenging for me to understand at times. It conveys that dark side of human ambition very well, and it has given me much to think about.
Overall the novel, as the title page states 'this book will change your life', and prompt you think about things and in ways, you hadn't before. Luke Rhinehart stuck to his aim throughout and did everything the die commanded, showing true devotion to a cause that sent the world into chaos.
