Lower paying jobs are seen as having a less of an effect on employees’ personal lives than higher paying jobs do. Often, we hear more about workers with higher income jobs that seem to have it all but still seem to think it affects their lives more than the workers who have a low-income job. Lower paying jobs can shape employees' personal lives much more than higher paying jobs. Employees with lowering paying jobs are more frugal with money. Employees’ of lower paying jobs look for the best deals and may even coupon. This situation can cause a limitation on what lower paying job employees can buy. Employees’ that have lower income jobs strive to have what employees of higher paying jobs have which may cause them to want to better themselves by going to college to get a degree or become better in their trade to get a promotion. Workers with lower paying jobs are more motivated to excel because they want to be a good example for their friends and family or they want to prove anyone who doubts them wrong. It is clearly seen that people with low income jobs want to set a good example as Angus Deaton describes his father’s struggle to become a civil engineer and create a better life for himself and his family (Deaton). Employees’ with low paying jobs are faced with choices that lead to experiences that make them a wiser person. If that means paying bills over taking an extravagant vacation then they will choose paying bills so that they are not in debt or so that they don’t lose anything, such as a house or a car. Employees’ with lower income jobs are also wiser because they know how to save money. They save money through budgeting, looking for good deals, and couponing. They can then teach these important skills to family and friends to help them save money. Just like when Camille “tried to follow her father’s advice to save” (Sherraden 2). When employees can make choices that are for the better and know how to save money, then workers with lower paying jobs are wise. Although many people believe that lower paying jobs can shape employees' personal lives much more than higher paying jobs, others disagree. Some would disagree and say that employees with higher paying jobs are better at making life decisions and that is why they have higher paying jobs. Or that employees with higher paying jobs are wiser people because they made decisions that got them got them higher paying jobs.
