Lower health expectancy is one of the most significant issues in more developed countries, such as the United State and Canada. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2012), health expectancy is measured by the average number of years that people are expected to live with good health. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which is an agency that provides a forum in which governments around the world may work together to improve the economic and sociality. The report of the OECD (2013) shows that the United States health expectancy is lower than the international average. The essay aims to state the causes and provides the solutions of lower health expectancy in developed countries. The first reason …show more content…
There are many developed countries, where they are urban areas. Urban areas usually have air pollution caused by transportations or electrical devices in that area, like Canada. According to Mr. Sjaak (2013), the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation as head of the environmental research department. He states that Canada has been the most polluted countries out of 20 countries in developed countries. Furthermore, Dr. Steven (2014), the analyst of air pollution, states “Outdoor air pollution in Canada causes an estimated 1.2 million premature deaths and 25 million healthy years of life lost annually.” In fact, air pollution is a common problem in developed countries, there are many high concentration of small particulates that affect the health of citizens in daily life. At the same time, it causes death, disease and disability if people are living there for long-term. The survey by the WHO (2012) has mentioned that there was 25 percent of death in developed countries because of poor air quality. As a result, the air quality is also an element that causes lower health …show more content…
Government and citizens should be working together to control the problem. Government may use the sustainable development for power generation. “ Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”, stated in the book of the World Commision on Environment and Development (1987). Increasing use of low-emission fuels and renewable energy sources, for instance, wind power, solar and hydropower, may reduce the negative effects to the environment. For citizens, people should try to use more public transportation in daily life, such as buses and train. Furthermore, the drivers may try to shift power generation into the clean modes. That is the better way to reduce the air pollutants. In addition, citizens in developed countries are encouaged to use 5R in daily. They are reduce, reuse, recycle, replace and renew. All in all, those methods may help people to classify the wastes and their lifestyle will become
Variations in life expectancy and its changes are one major cause of rising income inequality. How long a person lives, as well as their quality of health, can have an important and huge impact on their income and social mobility. The life expectancy of the bottom 10% increases at only half the rate that the life expectancy of the top 10% does (Belsie). This shows that improvements in medicine benefit the wealthy more than the poor. The less wealthy have decreased access to good medical insurance and cannot afford more expensive, quality medical care. The poor are less likely to invest in healthy food and exercise, lowering life expectancy and overall health. These changes result in a cycle that causes the poor to be less healthy, and the less healthy to become increasingly poor. On the other side, the rich have different variations of habits, education, and environments, which can affect life expectancy, often positively for the
When we think of air pollution we think of the refineries in our cities and the exhaust coming from our cars mostly. In reality there are many more pollutants that we don't think about every day. The six most common air pollutants are; “Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides, Sulphur oxides, Particulate matter, Volatile organic compounds, and Ground-level ozone (nitrogen oxide and Volatile organic compounds reaction)”(David Suzuki Foundation). The fact is people are dying from air pollution and we are doing nothing to make it better, in fact air pollution is getting worse.
Although ambient air pollution has decreased over the past several decades due to stringent air pollution control policies, there has been little evidence directly supporting the extent these control measures have improved public health (Tonne, et al, 2010). Investigative research has observed evidence to support the association of air pollution and particulate matter with increased cardiovascular events.
Air pollution has been one of the greatest concerns this millennial. The majority of the focus regarding air pollution has been on its effects on the environment and how it contributes to climate change. It can be easy to overlook the effect it has on the human body. In Resitoglu’s article that was written about his research study it says, “The World Health Organization estimated that around 2.4 million people die every year due to air pollution” (16). Out of the many different sources of air pollution, diesel exhaust is one of the most devastating pollutants to the human body. Scientific research has confirmed that the chemicals contained in diesel exhaust are more harmful than the chemicals
Pollution has become a heated issue in recent years. The destruction of the environment along with serious health problems are the eventual effects. The extensive use and availability of automobiles, tremendous amounts of production in the booming economy and the constant increase in demand for energy, can be held responsible.
Used cigarettes, plastic bags, paper, and other trash line the streets. Smoke, automobile exhaust, and dust form a thick smog, stripping the air of its cleanliness and light. This intense scene is commonplace in major cities, such as Los Angeles, California, and Beijing, China. However, pollution, defined as the presence of a substance or thing that has a harmful or poisonous effect on the environment, negatively impacts every city in the world. Despite its normality, pollution remains a significant problem that is continuing to grow.
Many cities are currently affected by air pollution and Hong Kong is one example. Hong Kong’s air pollution level often exceeds the recommended air pollution level put out by the World Health Organization, and Hong Kong’s pollution index was at “very high” meaning that it exceeded 101, for 34% of the time (Hunt, 2011). Another example, when Hong Kong excee...
Air pollution according to the Wikipedia << is the introduction of particulates, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment>>. Therefore, human being should be aware of the facts that the environment and all living creatures are dying. They need to understand the importance of natural items, the nature, etc…
With the development of urbanization, an increasing number of social problems have emerged. These problems will decelerate the urban development, however, there are many ways in which sustainable development can reduce the impact of these urbanization problems. “Sustainable development seeks to improve the quality of human life without undermining the quality of our natural environment” (Adams, W.M. 1999). Actually, sustainable development can partly solve the urbanization problems, for it can reduce the impact of the problems such as traffic jam, housing shortage and severe pollution, but it is difficult to completely solve these problems in a short time.
Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
Other methods such as hydroelectricity, using more timber in architecture to sequester carbon, wind energy instead of modern high polluting techniques to help enhance our environment. There are various systems in handling population rates and the various issues that connect with threatening our environment. The population and environment debate will forever be a back and forth problem because there is possibly no way to completely stop carbon emissions but ease its production. To help the environment, we must incorporate all potential solutions in governing population such as family planning and governmental involvement and practice renewable resources and stop using nonrenewable resources, as well as ways to tackle overconsumption to support our corrupt environment.
Air Pollution has become a growing problem the environment/earth has had to face with the introduction of man-made technology and natural sources. This particular type of pollution is made of a diverse variety of harmful materials that when introduced into Earth's atmosphere, destroys the equilibrium of our living environment. The introduction of these chemicals consequently has a negative effect on people’s health, food crops, and a big range of other living organisms. We as humans are mostly responsible with the contamination our planet by introducing the use of power plants, diesel cars, trucks, etc. and therefore we are responsible for preventing further pollution by introducing new ways of clean technology.
Air pollution is a type of pollution that can severely damage our environment as well as the earth’s atmosphere. Air pollution occurs all the time when the air contains many substances ...
Firstly, Air is the most essential source of life. Any creature can survive without only for a few minutes, so it must pure, clean and breathable. Air pollution means the presence of harmful substances that harm the human health in both short and long terms. Garbage, radioactive waste, wars, biological weapons and poisonous gases can pollute the environment that they live in. The problem of air pollution occurred after the World War 2. Oil, gas and the mass extension in the industrial developments have become another main cause.
