It includes many feelings such as pain, anger, and happiness. There is no right or wrong meaning of love. As Diane Ackerman stated in Love’s Vocabulary, “Love is the great intangible.” This means that love is a broad emotion and therefore has multiple aspects. One of these aspects is passion. Passion is an aspect of love because it is unassailable, uncontrollable, and a positive force.
First off, one aspect of love is passion because it is unassailable. In Love’s Vocabulary, the author says that “Love, like truth, is the unassailable defense”. This means love is invincible and can conquer all. It is known all around the world
as a motive for crime and even murder is forgiven in some countries if it was a “crime of passion.” Passion is a strong emotion, and like love, it can drive people to do crazy things. It has calmed monsters, glorified the humble, driven strong women mad, and seemingly done the impossible. Simply put, love cannot be defeated. Additionally, passion is an aspect of love because it is uncontrollable. As Diane Ackerman notes, “Common as childbirth, love seems rare nonetheless, always catches one by surprise, and cannot be taught.” Love and passion are both natural emotions, feelings that are unable to be suppressed. Passion does not always have to do with romance. It can something as simple as someone’s love for the game of football or something as deep as a mother’s unconditional adoration for her children. Regardless, passion is an uncontrollable feeling. Lastly, an aspect of love is passion because it is a positive force. When a friend confesses that they are in love, we congratulate them. Why? Because it is something universally recognized as great feeling. The author states,” Love is a desire older than civilization.” Everyone wants to experience love because although it can bring heartbreak, it can also bring pure happiness. To conclude, one cannot answer a question that asks what is love, but they can answer a question that asks what does love mean to them. Love is abstract so it has several meanings. In Diane Ackerman’s essay Love’s Vocabulary, she makes it clear that one of these meanings is passion. Love, what a small word for being one of the most powerful and complicated emotion someone can receive. Love grants people an experience of other emotions such as, sadness, happiness, jealousy, hatred and many more. It is because of those characteristics that love creates that make it so difficult to define the emotion in a few words. In the play, “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, defy their parents in hopes of being able to be together and live a happy life. The characters in “Romeo and Juliet” show the characteristics of love through their words and actions throughout the play. The attributes the characters illustrate throughout the play are rage, loyalty, and sorrow.
Love, an intense, deep feeling of connection, romantic, or sexual attachment showing affection for someone or something. As for all pleasant emotions, the feeling that comes with love is exquisitely satisfying. It feels like a cool, , long drink of water when you are parched on a hot day, it it refreshing. Scientists have a pretty good idea of what love does to the brain. Being in love floods the brain with chemicals and hormones that produce feelings of pleasure, obsession and attachment. Neuroscientists divide love into three phases: lust, attraction and attachment. During the lust phase, hormones flood the body with feelings of intense desire. Adrenaline and norepinephrine make the heart race and the palms sweat, while the brain chemical
Love is the intense feeling of deep affection. For example, feeling a deep attraction to someone. Love doesn’t judge, nor life. Love is patient, kind, and understanding. Love never fails, it always triumph over anything. When you love someone, you fall in love with all of them. You can’t just love the caring and gentle side of them but you have to love the hard edges too, and grumpy moods. You have to love the storm, as well as the sunshine. Love is not always going to be easy but you have to fight if it’s really what you want. And sadly in some cases one person’s love is not enough, and everything just comes tumbling down. Not everyone is going to get their happily ever after. In Silvina Ocampo’s “The House Made of Sugar”, she writes about
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” Love is a complex idea that can turn hate into love. Enemies can become friends because love can change the feelings of how one views another person. Romeo and Juliet become lovers even though their families are enemies and hatred is turned into love. In Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare agrees with the idea of love shown in “Love’s Vocabulary” by Diane Ackerman, “A Handbook for Love” by Barry Newton, and I Corinthians 13:4-8a. Shakespeare’s idea of love is similar because he writes about love that has may emotions and many cause a strong sensual passion and is not easily angered.
he Power of Love Love is a powerful emotion that affects everyone at some time in their lives. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, love is defined as a feeling of strong and constant affection for someone(1). Love can refer to the feelings between a couple in a romantic relationship, or it can refer to the affection one would have with a friend. When love is shown, each person cares about the other. Sometimes, love can be hypnotizing, causing one to do something they would not do normally.
What does it really mean to be in love? Love is characterized by having butterflies in your stomach and your heart skipping a beat when they are nearby, but it also means to stay with them through the worst of times and keep reminding them that nothing will hinder that. This thing called love was prominent throughout John Green’s two novels, Looking for Alaska and The Fault In Our Stars, but also in the author’s life as well.
As any romantic will assert, love is by far the most powerful force known to human hearts and minds. This sentiment is espoused throughout history, almost to the point of cliché. Everyone has heard the optimistic statement, “love conquers all,” and The Beatles are certain, however idyllic it may be, that “all you need is love.” Humanity is convinced that love is unique within human emotion, unequalled in its power to both lift the spirit up in throws of ecstasy, and cast it down in utter despair.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.

Love is arguably the most powerful emotion possessed by mankind; it is the impalpable bond that allows individuals to connect and understand one another. Pure love is directly related to divinity. For centuries love has been marveled by all that dare encounter it. Countless books and poems have been transcribed to explain the phenomenon of love, but love surpasses all intellectual explanations and discussions. As I explored the definition by means of the Internet, books, and articles I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia was probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All in which can only be defined by one word and that it love.
Love, that single feeling which generates the funny sensations in people's stomach, giving them the warm pleasures in their body, causing them to feel joy, and to believe every aspect in their life is right. It causes them to receive an exhilarating, appealing feeling that makes them want to rejoice. Love can be a speeding of their heart, but it can also be nerve-racking. It makes their hearts begin to rapidly pump, making a rapid beat— “ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom”. Attempting to describe love is a rigorous task, but it is possible. However, the easiest detail to describe and understand about love is not so much the feeling of it, but the concept of what it is about.
