Us humans are one of the most complex mammals on Earth. We feel certain feelings, we have goals and wants that are as high as Mount Fuji, and we also love. This complex feelling makes humans crave, fight, cry, and laugh. It’s one of our greatest strengths and one of our greatest weaknesses.
Humans are people that are all different. There are babies, toddlers, young children, teenagers, young adults, and adults. Out of that list, teenagers are the biggest group of people that are usually very bipolar and emotionally distressed. While we are teenagers, we grow, learn, and learn even more. One thing all teenagers go through is puberty, the periodic stage of growth. Puberty makes our bodies grow, our minds learn new things, and make our emotions

circle through our minds as if we are running the 100m dash over and over again. Teenagers can feel happy and content one day, and feel depressed and angry the next day. Many people believe that teenagers don’t have real feelings, as if we are barbie dolls that sit around a toddler’s room all day. There is one feeling that drives adrenaline through our veins. That feeling is love. Love is an emotion that makes someone feel an intense feeling of affection. People say that teenagers don’t know what love feels like, but we certainly do. One thing we can’t do is distinguish the difference between love and lust. Have you ever read the play called “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare? Well if you haven’t, the play is about two star crossed lovers that fell in love too fast and ended up killing themselves over a foolish decision. Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet did not take the time to get to know each other. It seemed as if they both just wanted to feel love but they didn’t want to commit to it. They felt like they were in love, but of course it was all just lust. Love is defined as a feeling that is so strong and controlling according to “Love’s Vocabulary”, an essay written by Diane Ackerman.
She thinks that love is an emotion that can control your actions and make you feel hate and fear. When teenagers go through puberty, our feelings and emotions are uncontrollable which causes us to make foolish and imbecile decisions. Many people think that teenagers just say they are in love just for the feelings, but most of the time it’s just our hormones controlling our minds like animals finding a mate. Teenagers go through a stage of emotional development when going through puberty, according to the article “Beyond Raging Hormones”. When teenagers are sad or mad, they usually listen to songs to cope with the heartbreak. One famous artist named Ed Sheeran is famous for his sad love songs. Although he writes sad songs, he wrote one song about loving a body of a girl he saw at a bad called “Shape of You”. The lyrics proved to me that people crave physical attraction the most, especially when they are heartbroken and sad.
While looking at love poems online, I viewed comments that asked, what is the difference between love and lust? Love is when you are patient, kind, and putting who you love first before your own self. Lust is a selfishness, disrespect, and having a lack of self control. Teens are usually caught up in lust, due to the fact that they are growing physically and emotionally. Some teens are just not ready to commit and make decisions,
so they go for one night stands. . In conclusion, I believe that teenagers cannot distinguish the difference between love and lust. Love is a DECISION, lust is just a FEELING. Therefore, I still believe that teenagers can feel love but when it comes to people who think that having a one night stand with someone is love, I believe that is certainly incorrect. Teenagers are usually caught up in many things during the times of puberty, but I believe that later in life they will know the difference between love and lust. It’ll just take a lot of time to learn and to grow, but there is always a chance.
There are reasons for such teenage mood swings that create such an upheaval. Adolescence is a period of chaos and stress for everyone in the family. Most researchers believe that teenage mood swings are a combination of biological and emotional factors.
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on one's door and one will know when it does, but they don't realize that for love to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these feelings die out, and this is when the honeymoon period is over; it is from this point on that the relationship will either end or get stronger and eventually lead to true love.
In his lecture, primatologist Robert Sapolsky explains the uniqueness of humans as well as our similarities to other primates. In doing so, he broke it down into six points of interest: aggression, theory of mind, the golden rule, empathy, pleasure in anticipation and gratification postponement, and lastly, culture. Professor Sapolsky approaches each point with interesting fact-based examples thus allowing me to gain insight on humans and other primates. Sapolsky’s knowledge of primates along with his scientific background allows him to make a clear argument that one cannot simply ignore.

The ways these emotions and feelings are sometimes conveyed are sometimes seen as an outlandish acts and they are better known as abnormal adolescent behavior. Abnormal adolescent behavior occurs during the transition from childhood to adult. (Ages 12-17) Abnormal adolescent behavior can be best described as acts done by an adolescent that are not easily accepted into society. They are bizarre, wild and almost crazy acts. Some adolescents reach a stage where they begin to experience different things and some begin to act out wildly not being able to necessarily control themselves. Some digns of this disorder can be aggressive behavior that may harm or threaten other people or animals, destructive behavior that may damage or destroy property, precocious sexual activity and lying or theft. These signs and actions can lead to a higher chance of the adolescent having suicidal thoughts or attempts, academic difficulties, higher chances of injury and problems with the law and sexually transmitted diseases. What can or may cause or bring about this abnormal behavior in an adolescent may be rejection from parents, peers and ...
On the other hand, Susan Minot’s “Lust” portrays a young girl who is searching for love with a variety of guys. According to Merriam Webster, the word “Love” means “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person, but “Lust”
customer violently shakes a cereal box and voices his anger with a light rainfall in the direction of the manager. The cashier, one of Pierrefonds’s well-known employees, Christyne Chartrand, stands at a distance and adjusts her glasses waiting for peace to be restored in this chaotic situation. As frustrating as these types of confrontations might be, Christyne perseveres through it all and continues on with her day.
According to the National Comorbidity Survey-Adolescents Supplement (NCS-A) about 11 percent of adolescents have a mood disorder by the age of 18. (Merikangas et al., 2010) “Children who are depressed may complain of feeling sick, refuse to go to school, cling to a parent or caregiver, or worry excessively that a parent may die. Older children and teens may sulk, get into trouble at school, be negative or grouchy, or feel misunderstood”. (NIMH, n.d., para. 4) These illnesses often are distinguished as “systemic illnesses,” mood disorders can disturb one’s general health, demeanor, and surroundings. (NIMH, n.d., p. 2)
When someone lusts after another, they are looking for sex. With love, you don't need to have sex with someone in order to feel that strong connection to them. There are many kinds of love. Friendly love, family love, sexual love, etc. However, there is only one kind of lust.
Love can mean so many different things. It is unconditional, selfless, accepting; an addictive feeling people crave. When a person falls in love, they fall in love with their heart and not their head. It’s an impulse from emotion, not rational judgement. Love is sometimes beyond control, defying logical reason. It is beautiful and insane all at once and doesn’t always make sense. Love and irrationality are set as the same, however rival entities, in a Midsummer’s Dream. As Shakespeare wrote, “...to say the truth, reason and love keep little company together nowadays.” This is communicated through the story, specifically through four teenage lovers -- Hermia, Helena, Demetrius,
With adolescence comes a lot of changes, not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Adolescent people with start to evolve in maturity and their ideas of what’s important will change. They may develop a new sense
When I traditionally think of love, the dictionary definition often comes to mind. A natural feeling that happens often without control or forewarning; a feeling that overwhelms you completely. There could either be love at first sight or the feeling could be formed over a long period of time consisting of small moments that build up into this passionate feeling. “What is love? Baby don’t hurt me- don’t hurt me, no more”. The 1993 classic’s catchy hook may sound nice but has layers of sophisticated meaning. Like this hip single, much of mainstream music depicts love as a romantic, usually lustful, relationship between two individuals. Barbara Fredrickson brings to the forefront the idea that love may actually be much more.
Adolescence is one of the life phases, which includes many changes and challenges that can lead to complications. One of these complications are the depression in adolescents. Teenage depression most often is not recognized in time because it appears
This misconception is so dangerous, that some people will date abusive people because they “love them” but love would not hurt oneself, but lust and insecurities combined allow the misconception to create a fictive reality of what is actually happening. Love isn’t about finding your other half it is about experiencing your other whole. Love does not hold you back it keeps you going forward and that’s what makes it beautiful. An everlasting feeling that should make one feel safe either with oneself or someone else. It is consistent, while lust is like a drug. Metaphorically let’s pretend lust is a high and just like any drug addict lust (drug) causes one to crave it, but once the high is over you crash which causes you to feel less. That low causes one to withdraw from themselves. They might not understand the truth of what it is because of the fact now they’re just chasing that high. I will add though one will never experience what love is unless they experience lust because without seeing what one does not want they will never know what they do. Just do not become
Adolescence, largely regarded as a period of time in a person’s life where he or she experiences major changes in terms of physical growth and mental development. It is a time in life, usually from the age 12-18 (Berk, 2010) where one has to go through many inevitable changes which may give him a certain level of discomfort. Adolescence was derived from the Latin word ‘adolescere’ which means growing up. There are various developmental issues faced during adolescence causes high levels of stress and anxiety in the youngsters. They undergo a sudden spurt in growth, experience hormonal changes and go through cognitive development. An individual usually faces a lot of challenges as he self discovers himself during this stage. However with a positive attitude and proper guidance, an adolescent will be able to develop into a successful young adult. This essay talks about the psychosocial troubles an adolescent faces and explains the reasons to some of the behaviours we may see in them.
