I like the song “ love yourz” by J.cole because it sends out a great message throughout the song about life and the trials and tribulations that come with it. the rhythm in his words are very motivational and the beat brings more interest to the song.
Think to a time where you struggled throughout life and you felt like noone was there for you and you felt like you didnt have a get away think of how you felt lonely and you needed someone or something to motivate you, i’ve experienced this feeling before so this is very important to me. I would like for you to think of a time when you really needed motivation to get through a struggle due to life. I like the song “Love Yourz” by J.Cole because it sends out a great message throughout the song
I have chosen to do two songs waiting on a woman by Brad Presley witch the whole song makes a gender stereotype about woman always making a man wait. The second song I choose to do is George Straits A fathers Love which enforces it’s hard to be a father and what a good strong dad role model is. Both songs spoke to me in different ways.
In the story, “Sweetheart of the song Tra Bong”, the reader acknowledges the similarities between average soldier and Mary Anne. In the beginning of the chapter, Rat Kiely decides to tell a story to the team about how a soldier decided to bring his girlfriend to vietnam. When Mary Anne first arrives, Rat Kiely describes her with a bubbly personality and very outgoing. But soon Mary Anne knew the truth about the war and that she had to fight in order to keep her life. Rat Kiely mentions, “ ‘...I mean, when we first got here- all of us- we were real young and innocent, full of romantic bullshit, but we learned pretty damn quick. And so did Mary Anne’” (page 93). This quote shows the atrocious reality of war. It can be assumed that Mary Anne symbolizes
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
I can not lie. I was absolutley blown away after I watch the clips of the Mills Brothers. I would have to say for that time period they defitanely was way to advance for there time period. The way the made music with there mouth had me at awe. I had to look at each videos several times because it sounded like real trumpets and harmonicas. The artist that came to my mind was Biz Markie. Growing up i would try to emulate biz Markie. What was special about Biz Markie is that he a lisp. The song i choose to discuss is his song “Vapors” from his hit album in 1988. It was a sample from James brown “Papa don’t take no mess” and it included Biz Markie Beat boxing instrumentals.
The genre of rap and hip-hop music has taken on a whole new persona in the generation of millennials. Fortunately, there are rappers such as Jermaine Cole, or “J Cole”, who work to hold on to a pure form of hip-hop and strive to portray a message in all of their songs. J Cole is a southern rapper with a northern style and flow. His main messages in all of his music is to speak the truth about his life and the world around him. You can listen to all his songs from the start of his career to now and you could understand who he is as and essentially listen to his growth as person. His song entitled “January 28th” is no exception to transparent style. The theme of the songs is to let his audience know that he extraordinary and he gives pieces
The song I chose is called “Juicy” by Biggie Smalls, the title seems misleading but it actually related to the song because the melody was taken from another song called juicy fruit. It could have more of a meaning that he had some information or story that he wanted to tell because juicy could also mean secret or interesting, telling people how he grew up on the streets as Christopher Wallace. The main topic of the song is biggie talking about how people doubted him and how he grew up on the streets as a poor kid. He talks about how his life has changed and how he had nothing to having everything. When I first heard the song I thought it had a good beat and the lyrics flowed together, even if you do not really listen to the words the first time it is still a catchy song. The song also makes you understand how he grew up on the streets not having much and turning his life “from negative to positive” as he says in this song.
“You Was Right” by Lil Uzi Vert is fairly easy to understand lyrically. The essence of the song deals with unfaithfulness in a relationship as well as the aftermath. Lil Uzi Vert spends a large portion of the song admitting his mistakes to his presumed girlfriend in hopes of making things right between them. The song starts off with the hook, which rests upon the premise of how Lil Uzi Vert should have stayed loyal rather than taking another girl home with him. For example, he says, “You was right, I was wrong” (6) in an attempt to console his girlfriend and apologize. Following the hook, the first verse centers on Lil Uzi Vert’s riches due to his success as a rapper. He ties that in to his relationship by expressing how he wants to share his wealth with his girlfriend. At this stage in the song, Lil Uzi Vert is attempting to win his girlfriend back with his money and general success as a rapper. The hook then repeats itself to indicate that the argument between Lil Uzi Vert and his girlfriend is still continuing. The second verse signifies an escalation in their conflict, as he says, “You just locked the door, so I gotta text you” (42). His girlfriend is refusing to even listen

The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
Cole’s musical idols, which greatly influenced his musical style. His style captures the attention from younger generations and the adolescent population, whom also came from an uneasy childhood and along the way lost motivation. “I 'm here to spread a message of hope. Follow your heart. Don 't follow what you 've been told you 're supposed to do.” (Music times, 2014) Through this message, J. Cole constantly portrays to be an ambition seeking activist. He hopes to project hope in those who are struggling by sharing his life challenges and voicing how he overcame
Snoop Dogg has been in the rap industry for the past twenty years. Snoop Dogg is a renown Grammy award winning rap artist for best album of the year two times in a row. Snoop Dogg is a rapper and actor. For many women it has been a fantasy of theirs to be with a famous rapper like Snoop Dogg standing at six feet four inches with a slender built physique with his finesse style of rapping he has sex appeal about himself. Snoop Dogg is a gangster rap artist. Occasionally Snoop Dogg likes to change from being a gangster rapper artist with a high bass to a more disco, melodic style of rapping. That is what Snoop Dogg did with his hit single “Sensual Seduction”. Just as Snoop Dogg has a more serious vibe
The song I selected is “Hey Mama” by Kanye West. The reason I selected this song is because it reminds me of my mother, the most influential person in my life. The song’s based on West’s own experiences he shared with his mother who has since passed away. In the song he is showing his appreciation and love he has for his mother even though all the hardships they faced together. The lyrics really show that not only does West love his mother as a mother but also as a best friend which you can see in the intro of the song, “I wanna tell the whole world about a friend of mine”. It truly is a dedication to her and all the wonderful things West sees her as.
Continuing on the novel, O’Brien continues on talking about his memories and revealing some of his war memories to the readers, such as, the “Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong” is a love story between an American girl and an American soldier in Vietnam. Because of the significance of the American girl whose name was Mary Anne, he travelled down to see his lover, who was described as, “clean and innocent”. It implies that they did not know anything about the war and did not see the terrifying parts of the war. Both the words “clean” and “innocent” denote free from the dirt of the society, connoting immature and blameless. The author uses Mary Anne as an example to delineate how the people at home saw the soldiers. Moreover, O’Brien says, “they’ll
I am in individual who is captivated and surrounds themselves around music daily, whether from including music in my routine in relaxing, working, or in deep thought. One would easily state music is my best friend if one watched me for a week. Even as I write this response, I am listening to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly album. I find his work and LPs, to be grand pieces complex with unique perspectives providing ability to relate in a personal way I usually cannot relate with other individuals. I feel the song U by Kendrick Lamar off his recent album To Pimp a Butterfly is the most important song, piece of literature, or simple excerpt of advice ever given to humanity. U has great significance to me in a literal sense and metaphorical
