Passing by a street, whenever you hear “Indiaaa…indiiaaa”, the question arises “was it today? Was India’s ‘cricket match’ against a xyz country today? How did I forget! How did I miss it?”
Yes, that’s what happens with all of us! (Or most of us) We are Indians, after all! The very basic characteristic that you can associate with being an Indian is love for cricket.
When the world is so much into exploring different kinds of sports to literally nurture their athletic talents, India seems to be stuck within the boundaries of cricket only. It’s a very common factor that the Indian crowds are drastically mad about cricket matches. We all love our game, watching it, playing it and talking about it. Right from a chai-wala’s stall to school-colleges,

This is something which unites us all, binds us all.
Having said that, one would say “what’s wrong in this, this implies cricket is indeed a great sport.” Now, what’s wrong is, that cricket is getting all of this love, all of this attention, at the expense of other sports. The very idea, that “indiaa…indiiaa” means a “cricket match” and not any other sport is an example of our bias, of our complete negligence of other sports. Why should the cheering of our national team be limited to cricket only? There are so many sports in this world, and our country has representation in a whole bunch of them.
If one were to say, it’s because India is most successful in cricket, The Indian Men’s hockey team has 8 Olympic gold medals to its name. If one is to say, cricket has been the most successful sport in the past two decades, then consider the Indian cricket team’s performance against Indian Men’s Kabaddi team, which has won the Gold at all of the last 7 Asian games(1990-2014) and is a five time world champion(2010-2014). In fact, cricket is not even a global (or completely even Asian) sport. It is not an Olympic sport and it was only in the Asian games in Guangzhou, 2011, where cricket was introduced as a medal sport (India did not even have any representation

As an example, consider, the Indian contingent of 679 members (comprising of 516 athletes and 163 coaches and support staff) against the original list of 942 participants (including 662 athletes and 280 officials), sent by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to the 2011 Asian Games wherein The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said that it was in favor of strict application of the criteria that in individual events an athlete should be ranked in the top six, while it should be a top eight position in team sports. Why does such contraction of squad not apply to cricket teams as well? Why is there no such restriction on the tours the Indian cricket team

Sports really shape our society, and culture. You will not find very many people who do not have some love for at least one sport or another. There are so many sports out there that people love and will always watch the sport of their choice.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience. The summer before my fourth grade year I was attending a basketball camp at Davidson College, when in the final seconds of a scrimmage game, my ankle was kicked out from under me. I immediately fell to the ground in pain as my ankle rolled over on itself. Coaches aided me in limping off of the court and to the training room
I stood yesterday afternoon engaged in the immense time consuming game of baseball. I stood there contemplating on what ideas, mainly about baseball, were being distorted and confused. Then it hit me…
Some early studies has show that rule and travel factors will effect the athlete performance. But we do not know much about the crowd factor. Considering how the crow factor will effect the athlete performance, and is or not the crowd is able to raise the performance of the home competitors. a study was executed to determine how the crowd important in the game. After the analysis, the courneya and carron(Alan, &Roger, 1999), found that the magnitude of home advantage within each sport is consistent and has remained relatively stable over time. They also found that the crowd factors have a big effect more than rule factor, but less than travel factors for the athlete compare to precious study. Because traveling to other country may have many environment factors. The home team is much adaptive to the weather conditions. And there have another Research

Sport and identity together have a unique relationship in which any regional or national place can use sport as a means to create a sense of identity. The relationship is complex and varied. Identity can be explained as understanding what or who a person or a thing is. Sport is capable of creating a feeling of nationhood and this is an important factor. It is important too for a nation to create a sense of identity but it is especially important for a regional area. For a small country to host a major sporting event is a significant achievement especially with having rivalry with bigger neighbouring countries. Nationalism can be expressed in a less aggressive manner through sport because there is a clear winner and loser; it is a clear cut way of asserting superiority of your notion over others. In this essay, one regional and one national example will be looked upon to see how they use sport to assert their sense of identity. Cricket in Yorkshire County Cricket Club will be used as a source of a regional example and rugby in South Africa will be used as a national example. We will look at the factors they used to inflict sport as a means to promote their identity and also if these identities are sustainable.
In baseball, a player is allowed to be substituted out of the game with another player. In cricket however, there are no formal substitutions. The only exception is if a fielder gets hurt or tired. This is when a twelfth man is allowed to come in and play the injured or tired until they can return (“What’s the difference” 2). Another difference between the two is the way the field is set up. The field in baseball is called a diamond (“How Baseball Works” 1) and the field in cricket is called a ground (“Cricket Rules” 1). In baseball, the players can hit the ball in the area between the two foul lines, while in cricket the player has a full 360 degrees to work with (“What’s the difference” 1). After the players hit the ball, they have to run somewhere in order to score runs. As I said earlier, both games have a pitcher and a batter. The pitcher has the job of throwing the baseball to the batter. The pitcher has to stand at the pitching mound which is 60.5 feet away from home plate. He then throws the ball to the batter who then tries to keep the ball in play so he can possibly score. Once the hitter hits the ball, and it is determined a fair ball, the
Sports are an important aspect in society. They help people to strive to reach certain goals and join people together, but they also can divide people and turn a fun game into the main purpose of someone’s life. Taking sports games too seriously can be harmful for both the athlete and the spectator. The attitude of always winning at any cost in sports and has managed to distract us from other important parts of our lives, such as health and education. This importance of the value of sports can heavily influence the way that we see ourselves as both the spectator and the athlete by creating a positive self image and distilling confidence and discipline within the player, or by embedding self doubt and invertedness.
...r cricket. This is however corporately done by use of local advertisement companies that incorporates the Adidas products into the victory that the team earns. It has no specified support for countries but supports teams that bring it glory. A victory for an individual or a team also generates into it becoming the winner in terms of what it can produce next (Ritson, 2008).
So why is Bollywood so important to India? Yes it provides jobs and is very good for the economy but what is more important is that what Bollywood produces, motion pictures means so much to people of India. It’s just like what Lewis Simons from the Smithsonian says:
Sports are loved by many people, it is not just a game to these people it is a way of life, the industry entertains society and gives them an escape from the norms of life. The continuing growth of the sports industry creates more jobs for people which keeps the economy strong and fewer people from unemployment
Sports may have impacted our culture much more then we thought it would, and keeps impacting. Sports have affected some of the most important aspects of life, such as jobs and money. It has also affected things as little as who we look up to and how we dress. Culture means “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.” The definition of sports is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” So when we put two and two together we get a a nation or world that has changed due to sports. Back in the mid and late 1900’s sports were used to see whose way of life was better. As time went on and keeps going on, we
The film scores in Indian films are very diverse from those found in Hollywood film. Hollywood films mainly consist of underscore except if the movie is a musical and has songs attached to the score. Bollywood is the Indian Hollywood, and is very large compared to Hollywood. Bollywood, on the other hand, has scores that mainly consist of songs. The scores for Indian films are considered filmi or masala film. Bollywood still has the underscore when a songs in not being performed. Many times during the songs, the singers are not in the scene but are dubbing over the scene in their own voices. These items songs are the strength of Bollywood, and have caused a lot of diversity. Bollywood and Hollywood both have their own unique features, and at times start crossing over in to each other. Movies like “Slumdog Millionaire” have had a huge impact of the combination of the two large film industries. Many times religions like Hinduism are represented in the movies, also emotions are represented.
In conclusion, it is explicit that sports is a positive influence on athletes, spectators and the world as a whole as it teaches imperative life lessons as well as allows its participants to experience enjoyment, fulfilment and gratification. As mentioned previously sports enables its players to bring out the best in others and create unity amongst groups as team work is so essential. This highlights the views I have in conjunction with the views of Joe Humphrey.
