I believe love is something unique and special that most people cannot live without. If you feel as if these characteristics don't exist in your life, then what will you have in the end? (Odo 66) But then again love isn't just about the “magic” you have for someone, but about how to make it work and to keep that meaning alive, and about learning to love yourself before you love others. Love is an incredible, affectionate feeling that can be experienced multiple times, over and over again. The actual definition of romantic love has been continuously altered in the minds of men as time progressed, but what about women? We compare arranged marriages and marriages as to whether they are the result of romance, or simply if one loves the other, and then usually the two engage in matrimony. Although, Anjula Razdan explains, “The point of Western romantic ideal is to live ‘happily ever after’, yet nearly half of all marriages in this country end in divorce, and the number of never-married adults grows every year” (251). She argues if falling in love so many times and ending in heartbreak are really worth it, due to the fact she came from a family that strictly proposed arranged marriages. Society agrees that when you meet that “special someone” you are supposed to be with the rest of your life, that you will know at the instant you lock eyes with them. For some of us that may never happen throughout our busy lives, but on the contrary, for the lucky people that do fall in love, it is the best feeling in the world. Some of us may meet them when we are young and out-going, while others may not meet them until
However, there is evidence of a positive correlation between love and the length of an arranged marriage (Epstein, Pandit, & Thakar, 2013). Furthermore, the authors summarized previous research findings in which researchers found arranged marriages had a higher level of satisfaction than love marriages in modern civilizations. The fact that both of these trends have come up shows that some western arguments against arranged marriages are founded upon inaccurate
“The Radical Idea of Marrying for love” by Coontz, talked about different definitions of marriage according to different cultures. She also talked about love, marriage, and the relationship between them. Coontz focused on the definitions of “Happily Ever after” and how different people view it. Problems are common between all couples, and Coontz talked about the different problems couples used to go through in ancient ages. The article began by defining marriage as “an institution that brings together two people”, according to George Bernard shaw, and “rarely in history has love been seen as the main reason for getting married”(4).
Romeo and Juliet. England, 1597. Hong Lou Meng (I know, you have no clue what this is). China, 1791. Gatsby. America, 1925. What are they doing together? Has Ziyang gone crazy? Yeah, they’re all works of literature, but, as can be seen, they span centuries and continents. On the surface, they share no similarities whatsoever. However, within the pages lies a different tory. all of these novels feature the notorious theme of forbidden love, and affection-driven characters that would do anything to be together. This makes The Great Gatsby a very universal novel, despite its comparatively contemporary setting. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby completely reflects the universal, timeless archetype of the tragic hero who works infinitely hard to achieve their dream in love, only to die in pursuit of that dream.
The strange thing is, that almost nobody knows what love is. A philosophy of life? Love is Happiness according to me, and everything that is included in happiness. Sometimes I really do impress myself with my ability be amazed by life...It seems like some things have never happened to me or I am an alien from some other distant planet. “Human beings” surprise me, make me cry, make me laugh and make me happy. That Saturday morning, my “alien being” went out the house in desperate search of deserted paths, beautiful trees, the smell of grass, the sounds of the sleepy city and something that would make me smile. Autumn was already in the air and I was thinking about how cruel was the world and how impossible was to be happy in it. It is not that I was broken hearted by I thought that my patience has come to its end. I looked at the blue sky and set at a bench. I was sitting there and thinking about how I want to be another person.

Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. The ideas, people, or objects of love may change, but love still remains constant. Some relationships fail from the start, while others take years to deteriorate. But there are some relationships that seem to never fail. The reason being is for choices. Love can be both, a choice and a feeling, depending on how one views it. Some view love as a choice to make the relationship work or choose to walk away from it. While others view it as an emotion that cannot be controlled like in the Greek and European cultures. Loving someone should be a choice because one should love them due to making the choice to stay with them or walk away.
