Lost In Translation
“Lost In Translation” is one of those movies that seek to be something having something extra something that is more than a regular movie. Moreover, it does so effectively without being pretentious, all through the movie it does not seem like it is trying too hard to be something other than what is there. It is skillfully written, well directed and it boasts of a solid cast not very spectacular but full of good actors. Jointly, this eventually results in an enjoyable and interesting movie. The important thing is that it has a message to it. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson play two individuals lost in the new and unfamiliar surroundings, restlessly moving around a Tokyo hotel in the middle of the night, who fall into talk about their marriages, their pleasure and the significance of it all. What occurs between them is very deep they open their hearts to one another letting the other know about the feelings and problems they are having with their marriages. In my view, these conversations can in fact only be held with strangers. We all need to talk about metaphysics, but those who are close to us want information and details; outsiders let us function more loosely on a cosmic scale.
Murray plays Bob Harris, an American movie star in Japan to make commercials for whiskey. His relationship with is wife is disjointed, they seem to be on a different wavelength, and they are sticking around because it is easier. A good example is when his wife asks over the p...
In conclusion, I liked this movie because it showed women of very different backgrounds coming together, accepting each other, and becoming close friends during a crisis moment. In reality of today’s society, I saw that women are jealous against each other instead of working together. This movie shows the joy of overcoming differences and forming bonds with diverse women. In a very simple term, the director reminds us of the unique book of life that we each have. The other message is how the older are separate from society, because of their limitations and age. The older ladies in this movie shows us and other older people how to bloom again, and relive. In this movie they share their life, their tales, and their lessons from the past with us to change our typical mentality about older people.
Travelling from Sydney, the three main characters played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Peirce and Terrance Stamp travel to Alice Springs for a cabaret show hosted by Mitzi’s wife. The audience is positioned to sympathise with the main characters during their hardships, and good times. The movie confronts different types of masculinity in an extreme environment
The Big Lebowski is a stoner comedy about a middle-aged hippie who likes to go bowling. The main action of the plot begins when two thugs break into Jeffery Lebowski’s (a.k.a “The Dude”) apartment and try to shake him down for debt his wife has incurred. After some physical abuse, a lot of yelling, and a rug-urination incident the Dude is able to convince them that they have the wrong man. The thugs have come to the wrong Jeffery Lebowski’s house there is another man by the same name with a “nympho” wife named Bunny and much more money. At the instigation of his bowling buddies, the violent Vietnam veteran Walter and the meek and rarely heard Donnie, he takes his soiled rug to the mansion of the “Big Lebowski” to demand a replacement. He eventually leaves, having taken a replacement rug off the floor of the big Lebowski’s floor. This odd incident leads to his involvement in the complicated kidnapping of Bunny. Though he insists that the woman has simply gone on vacation without bothering to tell her much-older husband, the Dude finds himself inextricably involved in a plot involving a pornographer, nihilists, and a kind-of love affair with the big Lebowski’s daughter Maude. Eventually the...
Television tells a story, but without any arguments or discussions of reason. Television is supported with images, and amusing music. I do agree with the third commandment. Television avoids explaining the entire theory or idea. I believe this to be true because, if it is explained the view does not have a reason to keep watching.
The good that Kelly is doing, the people that she is helping all are part of the number of the “good” argument. Good is a direct result from the actions that Kelly is doing where she is and there would be a loss of overall positive influence if she went to prison. Things Kelly is doing, things she has already done would be harmed in the loss of her reputation, all the things that she can do will be lost. Trading her imprisonment for Ann would decrease the number of people in the world helped. The amount of lives that wouldn’t be bettered or worse the amount of lives ruined would be
The audience sees through staging and conversation between the two main characters that the communication of modern relationships is distancing. The actress states, “There’s got to be more to this marriage than a few hastily scribbled words on a small square of pastel paper! By the way, a lot of fun. We’re out of post-its,” (Dooley and Holzman, 852).

Throughout time, the definition of what is considered to be “religion” has been proven to be quite a challenge. This is primarily due to the fact that religions continuously evolve over time as well as an individual’s perception and understanding about what religion seems to be. Despite this ongoing process of modifications when attempting to characterize and define religion, what is certainly constant is the fact that religion plays a great role in influencing societies and individuals historically (McGuire 5). In order for an individual to well integrate oneself into society and build a daily life, religious practices is essential to this process. By analyzing the effects of religion and religious practices on communities and individuals, it will become apparent that religious practices are quite more important than religion itself and its institutions when it comes to helping one adjust into society and life.
Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) is a best man for hire, he’ll do everything you need him to and be you best friend for your big day, all for a hefty price that is. Which leads us to the main plotline of the movie. Enter Doug Harris (Josh Gad), he’s a self-proclaimed socially awkward loser who has no friends. His wedding is in a few days and he can’t find anyone to be his best man, but he has told his wife he has one, his best friend from Stanford, “Bic Mitchum”. Which conveniently is the combined brand names of both his razor and deodorant that he used when his fiancee asks him who his best man is. Rather than just telling his wife his has no friends, he seeks out Jimmy Callahan (Hart) to fix his problem.
About Schmidt is a comedy-drama film starring Jack Nicholson as the main character, Warren Schmidt. It chronicles as the character deals with a number of issues that arise during the late stages of one’s life. The film analyzes several topics such as marriage, widowhood, and retirement in such a way that it captures and entertains the viewer’s attention. There are several light hearted comedic moments in the film that, while viewing it in class, caused the audience to burst into a roar of laughter. However, the film has a matching share of somber scenes where the audience was quiet and tense. Well known actors such as Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates with the help of a great script give an outstanding performance that helped make the film flow especially well. There was no doubt when selecting the film About Schmidt when writing my final analysis paper. It truly is an exceptional film.
Although most will be pushed to go to college some will choose to go out into the workforce immediately and that cannot be looked down upon because that is their decision and that is what they want to do, but with that in mind they must always consider college because in a lifetime it will more than likely be the wiser decision. One who takes the risk and tries to go to college might find out they want to be a biology teacher and not an astrophysicist and that is all due to college and all the experiences that it can bring along that have absolutely nothing to do with education but of broadening horizons and making one see different points of view. That is where the true value of college lies, not with the education and degree, but with the experiences, meeting new people, learning new ideals and cultures, and the ultimate tool you gain is just finding out who you are as a person. During college you learn what you like and don’t like, what makes you happy and doesn’t, you find yourself during college and that cannot simply be overlooked because of a price tag. That is why I believe everyone should consider college and overlook the price tag all to find themselves and further them along as a human being and a
From stress to the biggest factor being money, a lot of variables point to college not being the answer after high school. One of my biggest takeaways was the book I used. For a former secretary of education to write an entire novel about why people should not go to college really resonated with me. Perhaps down the road the system will change for the better and a college degree will be more worth the economic investment and the stress. As well as creativity being put back into the minds of millions of teens who are killing theirs with all of the school work they do and lecture hall presentations they attend. The many issues within colleges across the country have many people asking the question “Is college still worth
Some students may have dreams that do not require a college degree, but parents may push to get a degree to fall back on incase their dreams fail. This brings a disinterest to the student in college and can cause them to do poorly in classes. This can hurt the student if they decide to change their mind down the road and try college again. Some students just need time off to truly think about what they want to do with their life, but many people think you have to go to college right out of high school. While getting it done quickly can be a good thing, it is also a good idea to wait if you truly do not know what you want to do with your life. You may feel that you are wasting your time there if you are not even sure that you are studying for something you want to do for the rest of your
Sofia Coppola's film, "lost in translation" offers a perspective of the global world, highlighting globalisation and its impact on human nature. She uses the protagonists to examine the difficulties and faults humans make when navigating through modern codes of language, sexuality and building a connection in a alien culture. Her film evaluates an impossible relationship, infused with ambiguity, misinterpretations and tension, to comment on the constraints in a seemingly limitless world.
Sesame Street sought to use the medium of television for good by educating children using cartoons. Sesame Street helped children develop a love for learning; however, it also conditioned kids to only love school if it is like Sesame Street (143). This is a problem because the medium of TV does not allow students to ask questions, requires no social behavior, and teaches kids more about images than about language. Children expect to be constantly entertained, and thus do not want to patiently wait to learn how to read and write or go through the long process of philosophical discussion. When watching Sesame Street, children are allowed to sit on a couch in their pajamas eating popcorn while they learn, so they expect the same at school. The kids do not have to read or do any other type of meaningful work to absorb the images from the television screen, so Postman Says they don’t want to work hard to learn in school. The problem with Sesame Street is not that the publishers did a poor job, but that the medium of television cannot accomplish the goal of teaching children to use language, behave properly, and ask questions. Postman suggests that the medium of TV is not well suited for teaching
