The site of the biggest home front disaster of World War II is in Port Chicago, California. This place of importance is often overlooked by many but has a great history behind it. The area is concealed by the surrounding Suisun Bay, Belloma Slough, and other bodies of water. The history of Port Chicago also includes racial issues which involve African-Americans and the cases that followed up some incidents in court until recently resolved. In Port Chicago, California stands a permanent memorial honoring the tragic unrest involving African-Americans who were treated unfairly.

In World War II there were battles fought and rescue missions that took place, and the US Military showed their bravery as they went in to fight for our country.

John MacArthur is a well-known and sometimes controversial pastor that holds a strong conservative viewpoint of the Scriptures. As a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary, MacArthur’s ministry has covered a wide spectrum of Christian fields including pastor, author and radio host. MacArthur currently serves as the Pastor of Grace Community Church in Sunny Valley, California. For over 45 years his pastoral ministry at Grace Community Church has given evidence of a deep abiding love for the exposition of the Scriptures. In the movie Pacific Rim, the Jaeger challenges our conception as act of subject individual beings. In Pacific Rim, the Jaeger is made up of networks of identities. Jaegers are cybernetic unions of humans and machinery. Therefore, the battle between Jaeger and Kaiju is not merely individual vs Kaiju but it’s actually team vs Kaiju. I argue in this paper that the success of the Jaeger is the collaboration among humans, machines and the social order and not solely the individual Jaeger. This is important because one usually does not value the social type of subjectivity, but values the individual. Pacific Rim resists the narrative that the individual who emerges is victorious, instead helps one recognize the importance of the dependency on the
It is understandable that some Americans strongly opposed the United States getting involved in the Vietnam War. It had not been a long time since the end of World War II and simply put, most Americans were tired of fighting. Mark Atwood Lawrence is one of the people who opposed our involvement in the Vietnam War. In his essay, “Vietnam: A Mistake of Western Alliance”, Lawrence argues that the Vietnam War was unnecessary and that it went against our democratic policies, but that there were a lot of things that influenced our involvement.
President F. Roosevelt once stated, “December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan”. On December 7, 1641, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, killing more than 2,300 Americans many of them military personnel. The attack left the base destroyed and the people in shock. This incident lead to the United States’ participation in World War II. Michael Bay was selected as the director of the film Pearl Harbor, a film which captures this historic day in American History. In the film, Pearl Harbor, director Michael Bay kept some of the events of the attacks on Pearl Harbor the same, but changed
The Thin Red Line, directed by Terrence Malick, tells a fictional story of the Battle of Mount Austen which occurred during the Guadalcanal Campaign. One goal the film fails to accomplish is depict the battle as it occurred. It is not a documentary of the battle of Guadalcanal and its goal centers on entertaining viewers like any other Hollywood movie. The movie gives off an inaccurate take of the battle and shows how the soldiers immediately moved in and assault the hill. When in reality the American military did not act instantly and waited months after the Japanese had captured it . America wanted to capture Guadalcanal because it offered a strategic position to place a base, sea port, and because it offered communication between the United States and Australia. This is because Guadalcanal served as a mainly as a defensive battle in the early stages of the war. The movie did not follow historical accounts of the real battle and skipped parts of the defensive stage of the battle in order for the film to be more action packed. The director chose to move right away to the defensive in order to entertain viewers like othe Hollywood movies . Although the director did not follow history as it actually happened. We can assume he portrayed the difficulties the soldiers faced during the war. However, Malick’s biggest mistake involved the way he depicted the difficulties soldiers faced. Guadalcanal had been a tropical hell for the soldiers and we can assume they had anything but fun. Men died of living conditions and the film fails to show that12.
Every summer my family and I go to our house in the cape just north of Boston. One hot summer morning, I was leaving the house to meet my family at the beach, suddenly I remembered my mother asked me to pick up a jar of “Kingfish Herring” for her and her friend to snack on at the beach.
The United States has been involved in many wars since its inception. WWII in particular had a significant impact on the world and the United States. Through the years 1939 to 1945 the majority of the world suffered many tragedies and hardships. In total, 50 million people died including women, children, civilians, and innocent bystanders. Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, was responsible for a significant amount of these deaths. Hitler, aligned with Japan, wanted to seize all of Europe and Japan wanted to conquer Asia. A major cause of WWII was that Germany strongly disapproved of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany especially didn’t like that they had to accept all the blame for WWI, paying $ 6,600 million for the damage they caused in WWI, and they were only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships, no tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed. Also, the Rhineland area was to be de-militarized and taken out of Germany’s possession. All of these conditions were written in the Treaty of Versailles. During the war the world formed two sides, the Allies and the Axis Powers. The Allies included Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States, known as “the Big 3”. The Axis Powers included Germany, Italy, and Japan. At the end of the war the Allies were triumphant and the world gained its peace.
A major victory for Allied forces occurred during the battle of Iwo Jima where United States Armed Forces fought for and captured the Island from the Japanese empire11. Iwo Jima is the only battle in World War Two by the U.S. Marine Corps in which the overall American Casualties exceeded those of the Japanese. During the Battle of Singapore, Allied forces in Singapore attempted to resist the Japanese during the invasion, unfortunately they surrendered to the Japanese on February 1942 and about one hundred thirty thousand Indian, British, Australian, American and Dutch Personnel became Prisoners of war and remained in the Philippines, captured by Japanese soldiers1. Prisoners of war often suffered and died during capture because of the abuse they received. They often starved and cached diseases and illnesses during captivity. Prisoners felt they had been abandoned by the country they once fought for. With the aid of Philippine Guerillas, Allied forces managed to raid a camp in Cabanatuan on January, 1945. More than five hundred prisoners of war received their liberty once again1. Bec...

“Get back in your car!!!” The policeman was yelling at Gerry to tell him that something was not right and he would be safer in his car. As soon as the policeman said “Remain with your family…” he was mauled over by a huge 18-wheeler that was driving out of control down the middle of the street. Gerry floored the gas pedal as he speeded for safety, but was instantly halted as an ambulance ran slap into the driver side of the car. As Gerry and his wife, Karin, awoke from the crash, his ears were ringing and all he could hear in the distance was screaming and screeching sirens. He could see people running from something although he did not know of what the threat was, he just knew that he needed to get his family to safety. It was then Gerry knew that he was in for the worst horror nightmare of his life. He has to get his family to safety from a threat that he has never encountered in his life, and may not make it in time. The keyword is “ZOMBIE”.
