Football is a sport that is enjoyed by many people, but when a high school football team ends the year with a record of more losses than wins people start asking the million dollar question, why? A losing season is one of the worst experiences for the players, coach, and the fans. While some individuals may single out that players are the major cause of a losing football season, there are several reasons behind the failure of a team ranging from the coach to the attitudes of the players which in turn effects the fans and the team as a whole.
An inadequate or an inexperienced coach is a factor when it comes to a losing football season. A coach plays a very important role in a team; without a good coach a team is nothing. In particular, there

Football is one of the games that is played by numerous participants. The ball has to be moved from one end of the field to the other by the offensive team resulting in a higher score than the other team to win. However, in some cases, particular players attempt to score individually. On this subject, some players do not embrace a teamwork attitude. When a team works together and scores a win, every player on the team is a star; not one individual. If the team cannot work together and become a unit, they will find themselves fighting amongst each other. A team cannot defeat another team if they are unable to defeat their own egos and differences. The chemistry of a team should be the same as a family or a …show more content…
One of such effects is lack of morale and confidence to both players and fans. Particularly, consecutive losses drive away the confidence of players. When a player loses confidence, the likelihood of giving up more games is very high. This also makes them lose morale; consequently, they will play just because it is their role. When the team continually loses, fans get discouraged and stop coming to the games. Lack of fan support not only hurts a team financially, it negatively effects team morale. The result of a losing season can affect a player for the rest of their life. A player that is very skilled and works hard every practice may have the chance to be recruited by college scouts possibly resulting in a paid college education. Sadly, college scouts do not want to recruit a player from a team with a losing season. A player can lead the team in touchdowns, tackles, or put in extra time in the weight room, but none of the stats matter when the scouts see the overall record of the team. Every player on a high school football team has the dream of an undefeated season and ultimately ending with a state championship ring. Unfortunately, some dreams do not come true; some end before the playoffs begin. A losing season can instill the feeling of disappointment in not only the coach and fans, but mostly the
“‘Athletics last for such a short period of time. It ends for people. But while it lasts, it creates this make-believe world where normal rules don’t apply. We build this false atmosphere. When it’s over and the harsh reality sets in, that’s the real joke we play on people’” (Bissinger xiv). “Friday Night Lights” shows the darker side of high school football. Players are taught to play games to win, and thats all that matters. Football players are put under a tremendous amount of pressure, almost enough to be considered unfair. Even though football is a “team sport”, pressure on individual players is unnecessary. Some players have the burden of the team, the city, their family, and their future, resting on their shoulders. These players are put under pressure that is physically and emotionally damaging, not to mention future ruining.
Coaches are always looking for a better understanding of what makes up a winning team. This knowledge would help them in recruiting athletes that could improve the team’s statistics in the areas we observed. We took the entire statistical breakdown from the 1999-2000 season and were hoping to find any key statistical areas that could be directly related to winning percentage.
Football is an extremely violent game not only in the physical part but also in the mental part of the game. Players are coach to be vicious on the field. they are taught to get mad and take their aggression out on the other player. Which can be dangerous when two or more players are trying to hurt(intentionally or not) the other player by hitting them hard. High school sports are dangerous because rese...
As displayed throughout this essay, the Titans displayed how each of these concepts intertwine, influencing how much of an impact they will have on the performance and cohesiveness of a team. Each concept on its own is a vital aspect to analyze when looking to develop a successful and cohesive team. It is important that players connect and function with their team in order to fulfill personal needs and group goals. Without team cohesion, the performance of individual skills and team ability become inhibited. This essay as a whole greatly presented how team cohesion is influenced by a number of factors. However, certain points and proof could have been made better and further explained if there was more space
Football has been defined as one of the most competitive sports in the world. There are many different levels of playing, such as flag, high school, college, and professional. Where most of the rules stay the same no matter what stage of playing you are at, some things do change. When coaching in flag football for little kids you won’t be making money, the players aren’t recruited, and you don’t have a set number of players for your team. When playing n college and in the National Football League (NFL) all of those things come into play.
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
However, this is not really a direct correlation to the coach’s effectiveness in a particular sport, being that there are many other factors in coaching a team other than game records. The coach’s job is to enhance the athlete physically, socially, and psychologically, winning is only considered a by-product of that job (Gillham, Burton, & Gillham, 2013). Gillham, Burton, and Gillham (2013) focused on developing a Coaching Success Questionnaire-2 to allow a means of evaluating other aspects of a coach’s interaction with their athletes as both a research and coach development tool. A sample group of athletes at the varsity and club level ranging from ages 18 to 25 was used to develop the questionnaire by asking their perceptions of their coaches.
High school football may be dangerous but it is also a life altering experience. From what these boys can do out on the field to what they can become in life and all the things they can accomplish, putting it in peoples head that it is a dangerous sport is ridiculous. Yes, football can cause some serious injury but those chances aren’t very high and what are these boys going to get out of life if they never take that risk? Then end up asking themselves, “what if?” These boys should not let anything get in the way of what they want to do because even if they fail
There are many things in life that have their unique differences. Every level of Football has its 's differences, but there are some differences that matter the most. Different things have to be done from the high school level to the college level, and to the national level of football. There are different requirements needed in a players ' arsenal to develop a certain football leveled skill-set. This essay is about the difference between the high school football level and the professional football level. Some of these differences have to do with safety and protection of players.
Coaching is not only showing a team what to do, but explaining to them why it is so. Each game, the coach is accountable for getting all 11 players on the field working as one unit. He's responsible for preparing his team for battle each week and for making sure his game-time decisions are flawless. The coach is not only the head of the team, but a leader for all the players. A coach must maintain a pristine level of emotion and discipline so that he is respected by everyone.
As the stakes become greater with an emphasis winning championships, debates about the meaning, purpose, and organization of high school sports become more contentious. Historically, boosters who covet state titles and want high school sports to resemble big time college sports have dominated these debates, but many students, parents, teachers, and local citizens have different visions of what school sports should be in the
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.
From the early ages in history to the present day, sports have always been an important part of society. It teaches discipline, how to be a team player, how to interact with others and is a good source of physical activity. In specific, football utilizes all of these aspects of sports and it’s a great source of teaching self-restraint and perseverance. Some may say that football is a violent sport or it’s not beneficial in any way, but in reality it gives a person the basic tools needed not only for playing the game, but also how you interact with people in society.
