Having one of the biggest fan bases in the world, the Los Angeles Lakers has won 16 NBA championships while uniting people across the globe by creating an unbreakable support system. My love for the purple and gold, which are the team colors of the Lakers, started in childhood as my dad was a big fan of the team. Being able to see his happiness whenever the team wins resonated with me, motivating me to love the Lakers as much as he does. The Los Angeles Lakers is an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The team originated in the City of Minneapolis, where they were known as the Minneapolis Lakers to honor the state's nickname of “land of 10,000 lakes.” They would play there from 1947 to 1960 before finally moving to Los Angeles. Arriving in Los Angeles, the team played at various arenas ranging from: The Forum to The Honda Center to The Memorial Center and finally to the team’s official arena, The Staples Center, in 1999. The Lakers have the second most champions and the most conference final titles in the NBA, rivaling the Boston Celtics. The list of all stars include Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Shaquille O Neal. All these players have won over 11 championships combined with the Lakers. Currently the Lakers have no all star at the moment and it has been like that for the past few years, hopefully the Lakers will have an all star to help them return them to their former glory. NBA players these days are scared of the pressure of being a Laker. This can be attributed to the history and mentality of being a Laker. Lakers only expect championships and nothing else is
On July 27 1959, A new York attorney named William shea had an idea of putting a new baseball team in new York since the dodgers and giants had left for california. So on march 1st 1961 His wish was granted. The new York metropolitan baseball club or “the new York mets” were introduced into the national league. The name of the team was chosen by owner Joan Payson. The other names that were put into thought were the rebels, skyliners, nybs and avengers just to name a few.On April 11,1962 the mets played their first game in franchise history and lost 11-4 to the St Louis cardinals. The first season was a miserable one.Manager Casey Stengel led the mets to a 62-100 record,The worst record in major league history. After a couple of more losing seasons, The mets finally made a move and signed pitcher Tom “the franchise”Seaver, one of the best pitchers who ever played the game. They also picked up power hitting outfielders Donn Clendenon and Tommie Agee. Finally the mets looked like a baseball team.Entering the 1969 season, my father said the mets wewr 160-1 to win the World Series, but the mets shocked everyone winning the national league championship. Now, this is how the mets won their first world series, The batter was cleon Jones, after striking out manager Gil Hodges notices a black mark on the ball. The black mark was shoe polish. Putting shoe polish on the ball makes it spin more and makes it much easier to strike out a batter.
This season is no exception. What I consider to be the biggest NBA All-Star snub of ALL TIME (yeah, I said it), is Russell Westbrook’s absence from the starting five for the Western Conference.

Many people see the Atlanta Braves in different lights, by asking diverse people about them, you will get some vastly dissimilar answers. Before Earvin “Magic” Johnson and his group of investors took over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dodgers organization was in one of their darkest times. During the time Frank McCourt and his ex-wife, Jamie, the fans appreciation and attendance was at it lowest point since 2000. The attendance for the Dodgers plummeted 17% from the year before. They also lost 200 million dollars that McCourt used to bankroll his lavish lifestyle. During the whole divorce between Frank and Jami, fans were calling for them to leave and sell the team. Before McCourt finally decided to sell the team, fans were playing to boycott McCourt during the season. On the day the fans found out that McCourt was selling the team, fans were joyous with approval on a number of fronts. One fan and lead sports columnist of the Los Angeles Chaves said “Take a hike, Frank. Don’t let Chavez hit you in the Ravine on the way out” (Moore, 2011). The buzz in Los Angeles after the team was sold changed so much after the team was bought. "Now we're here. And now, everyone is wearing caps again," Johnson said. "The jackets. The T-shirts are out. I work out at Gold's [Gym]. I'm there at 5 or 6 in the morning, and everyone is talking about the Dodgers. We want this to be the happening place again. We want people to come out. Well, you can't do that unless you win, and now everyone's coming" (Bryant, 2013).

I had been to Staples Center before for a handful of Lakers games but never had I been to a Clipper game. I was very interested in seeing how different Staples would look and the culture it would create being at a Clipper game compared to Lakers game event though they play at the same venue. Upon walking up to Staples Center I notice a couple things that are already different. There is a billboard with the title Clipper Nation: Rise. There are also a handful of fans that are wearing Lakers jerseys. To me this was interesting to see because people in LA have created this culture surrounding the Lakers that they are clearly LA’s team and the Clippers are just the other team that plays at Staples Center. However this year with the advertisement done not only before the game outside of the arena but also inside the arena during the game to promote this new rise in Clipper basketball. They are the new young energetic team led by the human highlight reel Blake Griffin.
The Chicago Cubs are an interesting part of Illinois history, even if they are not always successful. The history of Wrigley Field, the famous players, and the stories behind every game are why Chicago loves the Cubs. It is the atmosphere of the friendly confines when you walk in through those gates. It is jumping out of your seat when the ball is being hit out of the park. It is things as little as singing the 7th inning stretch with all the other Cub fans around you. Rooting for the underdog is special, and that is why Cub fans are so loyal. The history, players, and stories of Chicago Cubs Baseball are the reasons why it is an important part of Illinois history.
Before there was the Oklahoma City Thunder, there was the Seattle Supersonics. There’s a fact for you! The Seattle Supersonics was founded in 1967. They were active from 1967-2008. The Supersonics have one title under their belt; they won a championship in 1979 led by Hall of Famer Dennis “DJ” Johnson and Gus Williams. They defeated the Washington Bullets 4 games to 1.
The Toronto Blue Jays baseball team was founded in the 1970s and experienced support from the fans during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1992 and 1993, the Jays won back-to-back World Series, yet in 1994, the team faced setbacks. The team had a losing streak, there was a major league baseball strike, and no World Series was played. At the same time, gambling came to Toronto, and the team had to compete for the fan's time. Also, players' salaries skyrocketed at a time when the Canadian dollar fell in value. How could the Toronto Blue Jays adjust ticket prices to improve financial performance and increase fan attendance?
The New York Yankees are arguably the most storied and well-recognized sports organization in the world. “...they are perhaps the epitome of a large market baseball team (Emanuele, 2010). Not only do they have the most national championships in the history of North American sports, but they are valued as the highest sports franchise in the United States; being worth $2.3 billion according to Forbes.com. Their tremendous wealth, power, and influence is reflected by a fan base and awe that stretches world-wide. From the Bronx to South Korea, from Cuba to the Netherlands; the Yankee brand is known by just about everyone. The Yankees are referenced in movies and songs, and the Yankee cap has become a part of pop-culture as hollywood
