The Pigman is about two sophomores, John and Lorraine, who come from not so well families and meet an older man, Mr. Pignati, who becomes their friend and guide. Mr. Pignati teaches them how to improve her life and to become better people. One of the sophomores is named Lorraine these are some reasons she will be successful in life
Lorraine will be successful in life because she has two very important assets Caring, Honesty. But she lacks one important thing family support. Lorraine’s strongest asset is Caring, means a young person places a high value on helping other people Lorraine shows caring in the Pigman on page 130 when she heard that John was going to have a party she flipped out when John said that. Lorraine thought if
John had the party something would happen to Mr. Pignati’s house like his pigs would get smashed or Mrs. Pignati’s dress would get ripped. Lorraine also has Honesty, means a young person who tells the truth, or is honest. Lorrain shows Honesty on page 101, she thought it would hurt Mr. Pignati but she knew that if she told him later it would hurt him more so decided to tells Mr. Pignati that they are charity workers. Lorraine may have Honesty and Caring but we all now she is not a flawless, one of the assets she lacks is Family Support, Family Support means Family life provides high levels of love and support. Lorraine lacks family support on page 145, Lorraine’s mom is not a very encouraging person for example in the book it says “Where are your clothes, Lorraine? was the first thing she said, standing in the shadow of the doorway looking at the policeman and me. My hair was down, and she pulled the blue robe tight around me.” One page later in the book it also says “I didn’t do anything wrong” I said slowly unsure of what her next move would be, I wanted to scream the thoughts that were flashing in my head to her” then Lorraine’s Mom slaps her. These are some of the reasons Lorraine will be successful in life.
In the book the main characters are Jay Berry, Daisy, Rowdy, Grandpa, and the monkeys. The secondary characters are Ma, Pa, Grandma, and Sally Goodin. The beginning started with Jay telling about how his family moved to the Cherokee hills. The book ended with Jay giving his money to Daisy to fix her leg. In the end he ended up getting his pony and twenty-two as well. Money was a problem for Daisy up until the end of the book. There
One of the most interesting characteristics of Flannery O’Conners writing is her penchant for creating characters with physical or mental disabilities. Though critics sometimes unkindly labeled her a maker of grotesques, this talent for creating flawed characters served her well. In fact, though termed grotesque, O’Conners use of vivid visual imagery when describing people and their shortcomings is the technique that makes her work most realistic. O’Conner herself once remarked that “anything that comes out of the South is going to be called grotesque by the Northern reader, unless it is grotesque, in which case it will be called realistic.”
There is a lot of symbolism in the Pigman writing by Paul Zindel. The three monks symbolism means Lorraine, John, and Mr. Pignati friendship. One example of the friendship of Lorraine, John and Mr.pignati is when he has a heart attack Lorraine and John skips school to go see him. The three monkeys symbolism you can find it in the Pigman. My conclusion is that the three monkey symbolism is in the Pigman.
Are humans natural born sinners? Are we content with our self-indulging human nature? Flannery O’Connor shows us through her stories that the worst quality in a human is selfishness. Through grotesque characters, O’Connor demonstrates the common theme of selfish human nature to display the ability it has to ruin/drive people crazy and that people only look to religion when they are desperate.
During the early 1920s the Great Depression took place. The Great Depression affected many people's lives. The immigrants caught the worst of it. They had just come from another country and were trying to start their new lives when the depression hit. They had to struggle once more with poverty and desperation in taking care of their families, the main reason they had left their old countries was to escape the same epidemic that was now overtaking ?the land of the free?. Immigrants, such as the Jewish immigrants, had to live in poverty-stricken ghettos without the necessities they needed to live healthy lives. The 1920s was the time of rapid change, it was the time of risque fashion, it was the time of which that if you were rich and had all the latest fashions then you were ?in? but if you did not then you were an outcast.
One of the Developmental Assets that is shown in The Pigman is Other Adult Relationships. This means that a teen has support from other adults who are not their family members. -The man vs. man conflict is brought up many times throughout this story. The first that is posed is the conflict between Huckleberry and Pap. Pap is Huckleberry’s abusive biological father, and an alcoholic to boot. He first comes in and tries to steal his son’s fortune, just so he can get drunk. Huckleberry is kidnapped by his father for a short time, and during this is beaten many times. Huckleberry eventually escapes as he saws his way out of a shed with an old saw he finds. He then kills a pig to fake his own death and smears blood all over the shed so the story is more believable.
Intellectually advanced compared to others, but easily mistreated, Piggy has the persona of a geek. Piggy is an outstanding representation of perseverance. Originally, when Piggy introduces himself to Ralph he begs him to call him anything but “Piggy.” Yet, as soon as people begin to talk to Ralph he let’s the horrid nickname slip, “He’s not Fatty,” cried Ralph, ‘his real name’s Piggy,” (17). `The symbolic aspect and the importance of the pig image in the novel is that the pig express one of the character that is piggy . And Piggy is one of the characters in the lord of the flies perhaps the most intelligent character from all the characters. He's also the closest thing they have to an adult on the island. And Piggy's aslo states that the shell could be used brings order to the island .
