During that period of time in ‘A Raisin In The Sun’ occurred in an era when economically it wasn’t the worst, but it could’ve been better. There were a couple of things that contributed to that, but the economy crash of 1957-1961 which caused an increase in high inflation rate, and high unemployment rate as well. The character and theme I chose was mama as my character and money and morality as my theme. I felt that these two went well with one another knowing that mama never put money or anyone else in front of her family, unless it benefited them, but if that wasn't the case then she could care less and would’ve wanted nothing to do with it. ‘In a raisin in the sun’ mama tries to make everyone in her family happy while overcoming the adversity …show more content…

An example of this would’ve been how on mama says “ (Quietly) Oh-(Very quietly) So now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom used to be life-now its money. I guess the world really do change…”(Hansberry pg.74). This allowed me to get my point across in the aspect of her being grateful for the little things in life, and she never allow anything that she would’ve considered bothersome to mess with her and her morales. This also showed how different Mama and walter were when it came down to money and the perspective when it comes down to having money, it showed that walter was all about money just allowed the money to get to him while mama on the other hand had never really seen money as a necessity or whatever the case maybe but she she seen it as a distraction knowing everything she's been through.
