Nurture, on the other hand, is the development of human character through environment, culture, and experiences. Nature and nurture both hold prominent places in the maturation of one’s life. An article by Kendra Cherry on “What Is Nature Versus Nurture?” states “Other things like life expectancy and height have a strong influence by environmental factors and lifestyle.” This quote expresses that both nurture and nature strongly affect human development. A quote by Kendra Cherry on “What Is Nature Versus Nurture?” voices” If a man abuses his wife and kids it is because he was born with violent tendencies or is it something he learned by observing his parents behavior.” This statement portrays that human characteristics are shaped both by nature and nurture because one can have certain behavior patterns due to he or she being born into it or it is learned. The quote signifies the apparent use of nature and nurture in human development. Ralph shows both nature and nurture through his many behavior patterns and influences on the island. The first illustration of both nature and nurture in Ralph is his wish for rules and civilization on the island this shows Ralph’s nature influence. The second example is when Ralph hunts and kills for food, this instance illustrates how nurture has developed Ralph to be affected by his environment to do something he was not raised to do. The last instance is shown when Ralph makes commands to build shelters for security this shows how nature and nurture tie to develop Ralph behavior through using his personality as a leader and matching it with his environmental
