The Default Of Civilization in Lord Of the Flies:
In the novel, a group of boys have ended up stranded on an island after it was shot down. The boys gather around each other as Ralph blows the conch and from there on try to form a society similar to their present world. The novel reflects back on many of the defects in the new civilization that the boys tried to establish. In Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, Civilization’s role in the novel is shown to be one of the representations when defects and flaws of human nature is considered. Likewise, the conch, beast, and smoke/fire all revolve surviving which leads into a civilization that ends up becoming a defect to the society developed.

The aspect of the beast in the civilization is really important. Many of the little ones are afraid however, the beast isn't a physical thing, it is figurative. The real defect in civilization is shown when Piggy states “I know there isn't no beast-not with claws and all that...unless we get frightened of people(Golding, 84)”. This quote shows that the civilization the boys were grown up around is starting to fade within each of the boys to a more savage like character. The fact that Piggy has come to recognize that the boys are becoming afraid of themselves prove that the defects in civilization because there a point in a civilization where things become safer and young boys do not have to think about such savagery. In summary, the defect in civilization is shown through the realistic thinking of Piggy who is only a young child who points out that everyone should be afraid of each
