Whether it is used for religious purposes, medical reasons, or strictly pleasure, alcohol has played a major role in almost all human civilizations since around 4000 BC. In today’s day and age it seems that alcoholic beverages are commonly seen in just about every social aspect of life. Being such a predominate part of society alcohol is often advertised by the media, appealing to wide variety of consumers. Advertising campaigns flood the minds of the public in order to attract a certain target market. Skyy Vodka’s advertising campaign sends a message to their customers that by consuming their product, one will feel youthful, sexy, wealthy, powerful and desirable.
At first glance one might see a tall, slim, beautiful young brunette woman with divine assets both atop and bottom. This young woman is dressed in an elegant yet lustful black backless dress with an extending split going up her thighs and a low cut top revealing her breasts. She stands tall in a pair of fancy high-heeled shoes covered in shinny gems. Her impenetrable hair sparkles and her caramel like skin illuminates in the low-lit room. The makeup that covers her face consists of black eye shadow, flesh stained lipstick and blood red nail polish on her fingernails. In her left hand lies a martini shaker of which she holds over the filled martini glass of a gentleman perched in a unique shaped chair. The woman’s right leg gently rubs against the gentleman’s kneecap. Her piecing eyes glare in a look of desire directly at this mysterious man. This man seems to be dressed in a lavish suit with tuxedo dress shoes. In the bottom left corner of the portrait lies a baby blue bottle of Skyy Vodka on top of an egg white tabletop ...

In the September 2013 issue of Vogue magazine Ralph Lauren Romance A love Story featuring women’s fragrance by Ralph Lauren displays in a series of photographs the stages of falling in love. Analyzing the contents of the photographs the images are presented in a form of puzzles which at first seem jumbled and at the end it materializes as a whole construction of a life that they have built together. In observing the photographs, it depicts the typical conventional manner in which boy meets girl and from there the pictorial images shifts into a series of symbolizing sequences of events involving hero and heroine. The images portrayed in the photograph conjures reminiscences subtleties of conflict in which the man seeks to capture, conquer and secure the admiration of the woman he loves while the woman at last submits to his advances. Love and romance are displayed throughout each frame with marriage at last forming the seal that will bind them together.

The 2012 Canadian Club Whisky ad uses gender roles attributes in order to persuade possible male consumers into consuming the product by appealing to their sense of masculinity. The goal is to reach men’s pride and lead them to believe that Canadian Club Whisky is capable of “helping” them achieve society’s ideal of a man through images and sentences that remind them of manhood.
This advertisement uses a combination of star power and a simple color scheme to draw viewers in. Most people know who Kim Kardashian is and by showing her having fun, the viewer subconsciously links that to the fun they would have. The black and white shades are all bland when compared to the green color of the bottle, the drink, and Kim's dress. By using the natural color of the drink to show off Kim's dress in the middle of the crowd, tells the viewer that by drinking this liqueur, they will also stand
The target audience is both males and females in their late teens to mid twenties. This company gets the male side of the equation by getting their attention and interest drawn to the attractive woman on the right with bright colors drawing your attention there as well as the bottle of whiskey which is right in the middle of the page. Then what gets these peoples attention to stay there is the fact they have an incredibly good looking female who is posing in next to nothing. Then a way that they try and get the females to look at the advertisement and read it is by showing a very plain girl who seems to be very typical of girls during their younger years. Then beside they show the same girl who now has become a women who is very attractive and just seems so much more powerful and sure of herself. One way that you can achieve that is if you drink Evan Williams Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.
It is said that he “redefined” the industry by quadrupling the distillation and tripling the filtration process, which then made for a smoother and better taste (Skyy). Skyy is also known for being the vodka with the fewest impurities and having a smooth, clean taste that keeps consumers coming back for more (Skyy). By looking at Skyy’s advertisement for their company’s new “Skyy Fusion” product, the female in the ad has no impurities. Skyy Vodka is known for its pure taste and it goes perfectly with any cocktail or just straight-up (Skyy). Skyy Fusion is offered in a variety of flavors including “ginger” as shown on the glass bottle in the advertisement. Skyy Vodka’s ginger flavor is said to be, “Vodka that goes all natural with the tantalizing taste of real ginger” and is also introduced as the line that is ranked number one in taste (Skyy). The ginger fusion ad is implying that the female in the photo has no impurities and she tastes so good, you will want to keep going back for more. It’s also stated that not only is the vodka ranked number one in taste, but she tastes just as good as the vodka. This advertisement is manipulating the viewer to believe that they have the best vodka around and they use the ginger-haired female, who they have made perfect, sell their product in this

Do alcohol ads portray the products being enjoyed in the most appealing settings and by the most attractive people? Of course they often do --- no less than do ads for cars, instant coffee and anti-fungal sprays. That normalcy of alcohol ads helps demystify the product --- which is a good place to begin encouraging realistic, moderate, and responsible attitudes about it.
The ad appears in Adbusters Magazine, a web page created by The Adbusters Media. This is a Canadian foundation that uses ads to fight issues in society like smoking and alcoholism. For example, in this case they are discrediting the Absolut vodka brand, creating a mockery ad against the product...
Though at first glance, the woman is depicted as the inferior while she caters to the man, and is also quite devalued as a person as she is wearing revealing clothing, there appears to be an underlying competition between the man and woman in the advertisement, this is emphasized by the colors and symbols. The woman uses sex and alcohol to weaken the man, in attempt to gain some dominance in the man’s world. However, from the advertisment’s title, it is seen that the actions of the female are “antagonistic.” The woman is criticized for her techniques at achieving power yet the male is not criticized for objectifying women or using them to fulfill sexual fantasies. While an advertisement for Skyy Vodka, this ad presents the world of a successful, white male and warns him against the young seductress, desperate for power.

Alcohol abuse is the most common problem, nowadays. In fact, majority of people drink alcohol repeatedly to the point where they have difficulty to stop. Statistics show that, as much as, “40% of college students report drinking five or more drinks in one episode” (Walters & Baer, 2006). Alcohol has become more popular over the years as advertisements, simultaneously with commercials of it, filled the media. It also is easily accessible and cheap in comparison to other psychoactive substances. On the other hand, alcohol safety awareness programs are barely noticeable. My research will present how alcohol and its abuse gets into people’s lives and how it influences their physical and mental health, as well as, social existence.
