All the men were killed, except for Marcus Luttrell, because Michael Murphy had given his life to make a call back to base to tell them their location. In the novel “One Foot in Eden” the character Widow Glendower represents both the catastrophic and supernatural nature of human personality. Ron Rash achieves this by combining deep knowledge of the world, devoutness and antagonism of one being. At the beginning of this novel an event takes place with a person who is viewed as a local villain vanishes in the forests. The manipulation of the witch starts it all.
In today’s world there are millions of people who grow up in situations that make them powerless. Poverty, violence, and drugs surround children from birth and force them to join the cycle. In L.B. In the short story, “Prospector’s Trail”, the author Cathy Jewison makes the characters seem like real people. This can be illustrated by some conflicts that are evident in the story; similarly in everyday life with everyday people. The characters also look authentic because the characters behave the same way the “average” human would and the reader is able to relate to them in some way.
In 1996 “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer was published and quickly became a National Bestseller. The book follows the adventures of Chris McCandless as he traverses the Alaskan wilderness and eventually meets a tragic end. The death of McCandless has been the subject of controversy since the book was released. However in September 2013, the author of “Into the Wild” released an article entitled “How Chris McCandless died” and stated that he had found the legitimate cause of McCandless’ death. While McCandless was in the Alaskan wilderness, he had to depend on his surroundings in order to survive. Wild potato seeds were common in his area, and were unknown to him to be deadly. Throughout the article, Krakauer provides new evidence of ODAP poisoning being the cause of his death, from the wild potato seeds which made up the majority of his diet while he was in the wild.

“When the navy sends their elite, they send the SEALs. When SEALs send their elite, they send SEAL Team Six, the navy's equivalent to the army's Delta Force --- tasked with counterterrorism and counterinsurgency, occasionally working with the CIA. This is the first time a SEAL Team Six sniper's story has been exposed. My story” (3). This captivating quote starts off Seal Team Six, a timely memoir about former Navy SEAL Sniper Howard E. Wasdin. The first paragraph starts his story and how he grew up to be one of the top snipers in the world. Although this is an amazing memoir, nothing is perfect. The first half of the book has the reader glued to the pages learning about Wasdin's life, but towards the end of the memoir the stories tend to get repetitive.
The book I chose to read is called, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder by: Richard Louv. I chose this book for a few different reasons. One reason I chose this book was because I’ m highly interested in the whole concept of the book and feel very passionate about its reasoning. I also thought it would be a great read to guide me towards a topic for my main project at the end of the Lemelson program. On the plus side, I “read” this book through audible, which enabled me to listed to the book on my drive to and from work everyday. I commonly do this because of my forty-five minute commute from Truckee to Spanish Springs.
