Introduction Characters Let’s start with the main character of this book Lockie .He is the stereotypical surfer he meets the main criteria of a surfer and absolutely loves the beach it’s his natural habitat after all but there’s one problem he is hopeless at surfing we know this since the book begins with him being dumped by a wave later on we find that an eleven year old is a better surfer than him . On the other hand there’s Egg , A Bogan ,The natural enemy of all surfers. His appearance is described as the stereotypical Bogan attire; black boots , metal head T-shirt and black jeans .However he does no act like the typical Bogan otherwise he would not have been at the beach and would have certainly not have cared about Lockie. Setting
This book is set in the fictional ,small ,coastal town of Angelus located in Western Australia. Lockie’s house is isolated in the Swamp part of town we know this since at night he listens to the frog in the swamp outside his window. Themes In The book Tim Winton addresses the issue of pollution The two main characters are environmentalists which means they care for the environment and want what’s right. Lockie and Egg try every way possible to stop the pollution. In the end they come up with a plan 'operation constipation' . Vicky Streeton Lockies girlfriend is also an environmentalist. Plot The story begins with Lockie dumped by a wave where he meets his new friend Egg. They go kayaking where they meet the pollution issue in the harbour. Lockie and Egg care for the environment and want to do something to stop the problem by doing so Lockie falls in love with Dot .This is where his problems start. Language Features This book uses a lot of puns and the Lockie can’t get out of funny situations. The first chapter is called Lockie Leonard Bloomin’ Stupido which is a reference to Tim Winton’s other book Lockie Leonard Human Torpedo. This book uses colloquial lanuage a.k.a. slang specifically Australian slang as it is set in Australia. My Thoughts My favourite part of the book is when Lockie was dumped by a wave without this crucial event occuring Lockie would have never met Egg and would've never discovered pollution issue therefore this story wouldn’t have happened . Conclusion
James Moloney's coming-of-age novel, A Bridge to Wiseman's Cove, illustrates the life of an adolescent boy called Carl Matt. Through the characters of Carl, Harley and Maddy, Moloney demonstrates how every human being needs love and acceptance. Carl and Harley experience similar things because they are brothers and have both received very little or no love, whereas Maddy gained love from her family though she didn’t realise, and so went elsewhere to find love.
In the book, Mattie starts out as a lazy teenager who needs to be told what to do by her over controlling mother, but throughout the story, she becomes more responsible and adult-like. For example, at the start of their adventure, Mattie leaves P...
In her narrative essay, “FYB”, Zadie Smith expresses her belief that if one redirects their mindset to a more limited perspective and uses the limitless Manhattan mentality at certain times, one can arrive at their beach. A beach is a mentality, and Smith finds her beach by coming to peace with Manhattan’s beach. The idea of a person’s “beach” being hard to discover may be observed through Smith’s personal background, as it is almost mythical for this English writer living in Soho, Manhattan to come by a beach.
Robert Hayden is an African American poet whose poems, most of the time portrayed the ill-treatment and pains of the African America. This poem takes a turn from his usual racial theme and perspective. I will be referring to the diver as a male character to avoid repetition. In this poem the diver or the speaker tried to commit suicide at first but when he got close to death and saw how difficult and uneasy it made him feel, he had a second thought and he decided to let go of death and go back to his life. I see irony in this poem in that the diver, though suicidal, dove into the sea with
“The Swimmer,” a short fiction by John Cheever, presents a theme to the reader about the unavoidable changes of life. The story focuses on the round character by the name of Neddy Merrill who is in extreme denial about the reality of his life. He has lost his youth, wealth, and family yet only at the end of the story does he develop the most by experiencing a glimpse of realization on all that he has indeed lost. In the short story “The Swimmer,” John Cheever uses point of view, setting and symbolism to show the value of true relationships and the moments of life that are taken for granted.
That thing was probably the most horrible thing I have ever seen. I have never been in contact with such a space consuming thing. It moved with a lack of elegance and fluidity. Snowboarders are probably the most annoying people on the earth. Don’t we have enough board related sports? Who had even invented the art of snowboarding? I had first learned to ski at the age of six, and had never even thought of learning how to snowboard. I was even annoyed at other snowboarder’s presence on the slopes and their laid back way of life. All I knew was skiing, and I loved it. When I asked my family what they thought about my skiing they said that I had a certain unique touch to it. Ever since I had learned how to ski, I had just wanted to get better and I was

Rowing, the thrilling team sport that gets you physically/mentally fit and provides you a second family with many friends. In the sport of crew, teamwork is very crucial. With that teamwork comes new friends and wonderful coaches. Even though you might think this is a physical sport it is also considered to be a mental sport. Just think, baseball has nine innings, approximately two hours of play and a lot can change in that period of time for a loss or win. With crew you only have about seven minutes to get your eight man boat down a two thousand-meter racecourse to receive a medal or win. If you have the lead it is mentally hard to come back and win for the rowers behind the top three boats.
Surfing is the sport of riding a surfboard toward the shore on the crest of a wave. It is an amazing sport to learn and it gives the rider a hell of an adrenaline rush!! The Sandy Beach The sandy beach and surf zones are two environments, which are usually found along the edges of the sea. The sandy shore environment is made up of sand and grains of rock and crushed shells while the surf zone environment is made up mainly of water. Although the sandy beach zone is said to be one of the most common environments along the shore, it is considered a very harsh and dynamic environment. Sandy beach shores usually have very harsh physical conditions. The constant sand movement presents a problem for living organisms.
Ever since I was a little kid, the sport of skateboarding has been an inspiration to my lifestyle. Most people learn to ride a bicycle as their first “vehicle”, but that wasn’t the case with me. For some reason, my parents decided to get me a skateboard before anything, and I fell in love with it instantly. I became obsessed with the way that people rode these skateboards in a fashion that made it look so natural and easy. I started small, learning how to ollie off and up curbs and what not, but slowly started setting goals for myself and found myself jumping off of stair sets by the time I had finally gotten comfortable with the board. In this paper, I will be outlining the amount of cultural impact that the skateboarding scene has had throughout the world ever since it was invented. Many people seem to think that it is just a certain “punk” brand of teenagers who feel the need to scoot around on wheels, but in many ways, skateboarding has broken into the mainstream through forms of fashion, music, art, and even film making. For example, clothing brands such as Quicksilver, Volcom, Supreme, Diamond Supply Company, Vans, and Nike SB have risen to the forefront of streetwear and casual attire and many
Beaches consist of accumulated sediments from fine sand to large cobbles which are transported and deposited by waves and currents. A beach relates to the shore profile that extends from a spring low tide to a land change of topography, in the case of Fistral beach, sand dunes (Masselink & Pattiaratchi, 2001). Sand particles are effected and transported in many ways which creates the beach morphology from day to day with it being effected by daily tides, longshore drift and cross shore drift as well as seasonal changes (Inman & Komar, 1970).A Seasonal change in Fistral beach is traditional and guaranteed which is attributed to a variety of factors at different seasons of the year. In summer there are lower energy waves with calmer conditions, in winter there are more energetic
