Living Life To The Fullest

As a young girl, I always felt as if I had so much to do, but so little time to do it. I would always push things off until the next day thinking, “Oh there is always tomorrow, it can wait.” But once you see a life flash before your eyes, everything seems to change. Like every other eleven year old, I was a busy girl. Dividing my time between homework, studying, school sports and even club sports, I was always on the go. I would always put the less important thing to do off until tomorrow, never thinking I wouldn’t get the chance to do them. What eleven-year-old thinks about tomorrow? In seventh grade my friend Abbie and I decided to go out for the basketball team. After a week of tryouts we both found our names on the team roster. We were both so ecstatic. As the season progressed Abbie and I grew closer as teammates as well as friends. We became so close I sometimes considered her family-my family. We had a great season together, one of the best the school had ever seen, until the very end. Two weeks after the championship game, Abbie’s mother took her to the doctor for severe headaches. The next day Coach Willard told us all to meet in her room after school to talk about tryouts for next year and basketball camps for the summer, or so we thought. Since we practically met there every day before practice anyways, no one thought anything so tragic could come out of a simple meeting. As Coach Willard walked in, we all knew this meeting wasn’t going to be about next year or camps or even have good news for that matter. As she spoke, tears began to roll down her face, which in turn made us all start to cry. She explained how the doctors had found a brain tumor at the base of Abbie’s skull, about the size of a golf ball. A few... ... middle of paper ... ...the past, but live each day to its fullest potential, with no regrets. I also decided to live by God’s will and serve Him to the best of my ability. I started doing things for myself. I no longer went to church to please other but to please myself and to please God. Its funny how one tragic moment in your life can ripple out and affect so many other aspects of your life and sometimes even aspects of others lives. Just a few simple words can always change your perspective on so many different things. From that point on, I found God in most of my day-to-day activities. I talk to Him like a close personal friend, I confide in Him in my times of need and thank Him for all the wonderful things He has blessed me with, including just life itself. He showed me how to live life to the fullest, or “grab life by the horns” and “live for the now, for today. Not for tomorrow.”
