A poem called, “Success” was written in 1904 by Bessie Anderson Stanley. The first line reads, “He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much.” It gained some new popularity a few years ago and was printed in various ways on multiple products. “Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much,” was one of the variations. To my pleasant surprise, many people would remark that the saying reminded them of me. I also have gifts of mugs, frames and wall hangings that validate their sentiments. Heartwarming as it was, I did not feel the confidence that I was doing that as well as I was getting credit for. The phrase would become a tag line to live up to, a basis for my personal philosophy and a road map for my goals. I think those words encompass the heart of our Creator.
Personal Philosophy
What drives me today is different from what did a few years ago. An unexpected set of circumstances proposed a far different path from the one I had planned. Priorities have changed. A typical day used to include my internal clock waking me to turn the heat on in my shop, study my list of contacts and appointments, send off a few email, put my headset on and multitask through production and calls before I head to a job site or meet with a customer. I found great meaning and purpose in that. Reading it aloud sounds a little shallow, but it was more than a job because it involved relationships, challenged me to strive for excellence and work in integrity. It gave me a sense that I was walking in who He made me, because most days I was out loving on folks, giving service where I could and adding a little beauty to the city. It did not feel like work. Fast forward to today and what gives me meaning and purpose is reframed. Being a clos...

... in my life I saw the truth as it is set into song by so many poets, proclaimed as the final wisdom by so many thinkers. The truth--that love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire” (Frankl, 2006, p. 37). This is the greatest truth, perfect philosophy and most important goal in this life.

...following through with my commitments. I know I struggle sometimes with following through with commitments but I remind myself of the importance of being a trustworthy person. I focus on expressing gratitude, because I realize the significance in my life. I express gratitude because I know everything existing in my life is without reason. Integrity becomes an important value in my life, simply because I know my credibility is on the line. Working in an environment where integrity is sometimes forgotten, my duty becomes exemplifying integrity with everyone I meet. My purpose becomes a reality in my life as I am continually seeing the positivity in things concerning my life. My life purpose statement, “I am the geyser so that people spew out positivity to those around them.”
'One has achieved success who has lived well and laughed often.'; This quote seems to sum up what is meant by success. If you are able to laugh often and much then you have definitely achieved happiness. The idea of living well, though, is a very broad statement. In order, then, to define success in relation to this statement, we must first define what it means to live well. There are three levels of success, in my opinion: societal success, personal success, and academic or professional success. If someone can achieve all of these three levels of success, they are someone who has lived well.
“One has achieved success who has lived well and laughed often.” This quote seems to explain the meaning of success. If someone is able to laugh often then they have definitely achieved happiness. The idea of living well is a very vast statement. In order to define success in relation to this statement, an individual must be able to define what it means to actually live well. There are different levels of success: societal success, personal success, and academic or professional success. If someone can achieve all of these levels of success, they are a person who has lived life to its fullest potential.
In addition to examining your interests, this The Power of Purpose book suggests that you consider any time you achieve a state of “flow” in your life as a possible indicator of your true purpose. He The author urges you look for those moments when you’re are so passionate that you lose yourself in the task at hand. Instead of planning what you should do, reflect on what you’ve have already done. How have your past experiences made you feel? Is there anything that you’ve have done that you love doing just for its own sake? Does that passion allow you to give back to society in any meaningful way?

I met him when I was fourteen, and instantly had a crush on him. He was tall, and handsome, and swept me off of my feet. I would sit and tell my best friend how cute he was, and how much I wanted to date him, but knew he probably wasn’t interested in me. He was, and still is, way out of my league. I wasn’t pretty, I wasn’t girly, and usually was dirty and covered in engine grease. I didn’t wear cute outfits with heels. I wore dirty jeans with cowboys boots and a t-shirt. But somehow or another, I was wrong. When I made the first move, I was scared out of my mind, but am so glad I took that leap. If I hadn’t, I don’t know what would have became of us. Probably nothing.
Life. Such a simple word with so many different meanings. I find the question, "How's life?" to be so weighted. I always find myself wondering if the person asking is asking out of courtesy, or wants an involved answer concerning how I am doing. "How's life?" fake laugh and smile, "Ya know, it's going." The reality is, if you wanted to genuinely know how my life is, you would get a long, involved, complicated, emotionally-wrenching response, that not many people genuinely want to know. "How's life?" Two words, that carry the weight of my world in them. Such a innocent, surface level question that has the ability to hide so much beneath the surface.
Passion for Family, Community, Business, Technology and Intellectual growth are what motivate me on the daily basis. These are vital parts that have contributed to framing me into the person I’ve become. They have also shaped my short-term and long-term goals in life. It’s critical for one to have a vision for their life and what they anticipate to accomplish. Without a vision or desire there is no hope for one to continue and to purse anything. My experiences with in my passions have helped me aligned my vision for my life. They have given me the valuable knowledge that have set me up for success to get to this point in life.
Mark Twain believes that whoever is happy will make others happy, too. So if I wanted to promote happiness to others, I must have that happiness first.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
