Literature Review
With increasingly more schools taking an inclusive approach to education, it is also becoming more important to ensure that teachers and school staff are equipped to recognize, intervene, and assist students that are having suicidal ideation or intent. There is also a need for school communities to adopt ways of assisting surviving victims, and families of victims of suicide attempt or completion. According to the Center for Disease Control, “in 2011, suicide was the second leading cause of death among persons aged 15-24 years [old]” (Understanding Suicide, 2014). The issue of teen suicide has negative impacts for the entire community, but it impacts the school community a significant amount more.
