The Declaration of Independence was written during a time of turmoil and war but many of Jefferson’s ideals can still ring true across the United States and across the world. This revolutionary prose could have been written for an entirely different country today and that country is North Korea. At the time of writing Jefferson ambiguously states, “he” referencing the King of England but now it could be applied to the tyrant Kim Jong-Un. North Korea has established a totalitarian regime that does not allow for any “Representative Houses” to be formed for the people to be heard.
