The Spice Girls and Jekyll and Hyde attracted attention on the main stage during the Morale, Welfare & Recreation Guantanamo Lip Sync Battle at the MWR Windjammer ballroom on U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, July 23. Joint Task Force Guantanamo Troopers and NSGB personnel gave it their all during their one minute and 30 second long performances to take home the title of Best Overall Performance. “It was really fun,” said a Joint Task Force Guantanamo Trooper and member of the Jagsters. “The MWR here is awesome. The Lip Sync Challenge was a lot of fun and we hope to see more event like this.” Groups and individuals pre-registered a head of time, but we also had some people register at the last-minute, said Ansley Childree, the MWR …show more content…
“I grew up in the theatre world. I spent eight years doing stage plays and musicals. I love the world of acting and this was a great opportunity for me to get back into my theatre roots. I loved getting dressed up and putting on a performance to entertain people.”
Although Hanna did not win the individual category, he came in a close second. After the judging was completed for the individual category, the event moved onto the group performances. The group performance had two groups battling for the number one title. The Jagsters not only took the award for best group performance but took the title of best overall performance with their thrilling rendition of Spice Girls “Wannabe,” which had performers of bother genders all gussied up in dresses and heels. One member of the group rode around on a scooter, who was chanted back on the stage during their second performance of Cindy Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.”
“We spent a little bit of time at the thrift store today to buy some props and outfits,” said a JTF GTMO Trooper and member of the winning group the Jagsters. “After about an hour of practice we were ready to hit the
With knowing little more than conflicting orders and mixed situation reports, the QRF, a small force of Rangers and Air Force PJs, were headed into an extremely hostile LZ and would spend the day fighting for their lives. Some of them would pay the ultimate sacrifice to live by the sworn oath to never leave a fallen comrade.
When the flag was finished and he showed the men, they all saluted it and many began to cry. When the guards came across Mike’s treasure, he was beaten bloody. But remarkably, “He recovered in a couple of weeks and immediately started looking for another piece of cloth,” (Thorsness 109). This event is a clear demonstration of the pride each and every soldier feels for America. It demonstrated their ever growing desire for freedom.

On December of 1992, U.S. troops landed in Somalia. It was Thomas E. Ricks’ first deployment as a Pentagon Reporter. Opening the beginning chapter, he speaks of his first-hand experience he encountered while traveling with a squad from Alpha Company of the 1st battalion of the 7th Marines. Exceptionally qualified, his work on Making The Corps was cited by Thomas E. Ricks himself. Few events were videotaped, and some related by several participants and observers. Thoughts of Platoon 3086 and military documentations, such as “Recruit Incident Reports” and “Recruit Evaluation Cards”, were used as well to get an inside feel of the way recruits and Drill Instructors see Boot Camp.
Tim O’Brien holds a unique ability to show the realities of everyday life for many veterans. When you listen to him speak you get a feel of what it is like to be a soldier at war, not only ment...
In this combat film, the plot is based on an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team (EOD) during the Iraq war in 2004. The soldiers are responsible for disarming enemy explosives setup throughout the city. The storyline is constructed around the demonstrative behavior of Sergeant James, and how his attitude and actions put himself and his team in constant danger. Sergeant James, referred to in the film as the “Wildman” because of the record dismantling of 873 bombs during the war, enters Army Camp Victory as the lead of the EOD unit. James, in view of his job, is noted as saying “it’s just combat” and appears to not consider the danger. Through the story of these three men, Director Bigelow created imagery of soldiers fulfilling their duty while depicting the consequences war has on each one of these men’s psyches.
Second of all, the band deserves this award because they have influenced a large number of young singers and fans with their music. In 1977, they were so famous that a bunch ...
Although the outside of Harbeson Hall was calm and quiet except the noise of the traffic, the inside of the hall was a whole different world with up-tempo music. As I entered the room, I encountered an atmosphere of great excitement. The crowd was chatting and laughing endlessly regardless of the loud music, and performers were giggling expectantly rather than nervously as they waited for their turn. The participants dressed in drag with dramatic make ups did lip-sync, dance or strutted on the runway as any other drag queens, drag kings, and faux queens do in a drag show. There was nothing special about the sh...

For more than 40 years, the KTU name has been the “beat of New York,” offering the freshest dance music and staying on top of the curve with new artists. First hitting the airwaves in 1975 at the 92.3 FM signal, it rose to the number one station in the market in the span of 10 years. After moving to the 103.5 signal, where it stays to this day, it immediately became number one again, something no other station has ever done outright. Read on to find out more about KTU and its long history and importance within New York’s dance music and radio scenes.
Michael scrambled to his feet. The captain handed Michael a curl of barbed wire, Tommy suddenly realized what his intention was. The barbed wire fence was more than 100 yards out from the trench, each morning it must be reassembled, from the prior days fighting. Michael hadn’t taken the wire yet, he was just standing there, quivering. As ghastly and atrocious the trenches may be, no one wanted to go onto the battlefield alone. “I’ll do it,” Tommy said, standing up. The captain eyed him suspiciously, having never fought on the front line himself; he couldn’t understand why a man would volunteer for another. He couldn’t grasp the camaraderie that had been forged here, partly in a joint distaste of those in charge such as him.
The album got mixed critics from the music experts. Some of them claimed that both Hannah Montana’s and Miley Cyrus songs are totally appropriate for her target audience, and others that th...
Over the next week, I practiced a ton, repeatedly recording myself and watching myself in the mirror. I hated how I sounded. I hated how I looked. I thought about just letting it go, not doing it. It would of been so easy to quit, just to tell the director I couldn’t do it, but I never gave in. I knew it wouldn’t be right. Moreover, who would she find to present the speech so
...e set in the spotlight. I want to be involved in that world… it was in the show I realized I love musical theater. I don’t know anything else in this world that would make me happier than performing on stage or being a part of the performance to come to life, weather if its behind the scene or on the scene. I want to drag the whole audience into the same world Georgia Kate Haege (plays Donna) did, she inspired me, and I fell in love with the art of musical theater.
The Voice: Well, Mrs. Dryer, I go to a very competitive school. I have to take competitive classes. It's not as though the work load would go down if I dropped to a lower level. I had a very busy week, and the play just started. I'll have more time this week. I promise to practice more between now and next lesson.
