The Lion’s Den Basketball Showcase was held in Gyms 1&2 on December 18th 2017. We opened the doors at 12:10, and the admission fee was $0.50. We had some members of the King Safe Schools Council act as bodyguards to avoid the risk of people sneaking into our event without paying. In addition to this Nazar marked people’s hands once they’d paid as a proof of purchase. We stayed with this price because we knew that people could play basketball for free and by charging a small amount of money we could increase the number of attendees we had (King students are always looking for a deal). We then proceeded to our first game stipulation was the Half Court Challenge. Every participant got three attempts at a chance to make a half court shot. Surprisingly, no one had made a shot but the atmosphere from the participants was very enjoyable to be around. Participants were cheering each other on, laughing at their own attempts and were overall having a good time. Our second game was 4 on 4 basketball half court game. We decided as a group to let everyone pick their own teams of four and the first two teams that came up to the refs (Robel and Simrit) got to play the first game. There were a total of six teams, 3 teams on each side. The conditions were that the game was up to 3, with every shot only counting as 1. It was also king’s court rules, which means that the winning team always stays on and the losing team rotates with the next team in line. Participants who were waiting to play in the next game had to stand on the out of bounds line at all times to avoid confusion. The refs counted each team’s amount of wins which led to our final game. A full court match, with the best team of each side playing against each other was only fitting for our final game. Due to time management, the game was only up to one. The winner of the game won 20 timbits.
