Introduction
An operating system (OS) is an intermediate program which used to run other program in a computer. OS is considered as backbone because hold the responsibility to manage both hardware and software resource used in a computer. OS responsible to control and allocated memory to recognize input from external devises then transmit the output as computer display. OS also manage the file in a computer drive and control peripherals, such as printer and scanner.
Linux is an OS for PC workstations that fully functional using graphical user interface (GUI). Linux is a Unix-like and POSIX-compliant computer. OS assembled on this platform is under the model of free and open source software development and distribution. Linus Torvalds was defining component of Linux as Linux kernel, the operation system kernel first released on 5th of October 1991. Cross-Platform OS is used in these workstations.
Windows is a series of graphical interface operating systems developed, marketed and sold by Microsoft. On 20th of November 1985, Microsoft introduced operating environment called Windows. I was very interested in computers and technology as a child, both playing games and building fake parts for them. Still in elementary school, I was fascinated by these computing machines, spending hours on end working with DOS to satisfy my curiosity. Around my middle school years, Windows became graphical, and I found interest in even more computer games with even greater experiences and capabilities. Windows was the dominant operating system at the time, but I was soon to find there was a whole different world out there of operating systems. While out on vacation in Washington, DC, my Dad and I were able to meet with the local Tech Fanatics group, HackDC. It was here where I discovered Linux. Linux, an alternative to Windows, immediately grabbed my attention when I saw it in use. It appeared to me as something that only the extreme computer users even heard of. Upon my return home,
Microsoft is an American company that was founded by William Henry Gates III, as known as Bill Gates, and his his high school friend Paul Gardner Allen in 1975 April 4. But unluckily, Paul Allen resigned from Microsoft in 1983 after developing Hodgkin’s disease. In 1985 October 20, Microsoft released Microsoft window. It is the first original operating system. It is a graphical extension for MS-DOS. Even though, it’s not handy like nowadays Microsoft window. Then in 1990, Microsoft introduced Microsoft office, which is a bundle office productivity application with Microsoft Word and Microsoft excel. The Microsoft Word was the first application that could display italics. And the Microsoft Office would be available for free for all the PC World’s computer that is produce on that same year in November. In the 2000 February 17, Microsoft released Window 2000 operating system, and according to Microsoft it is the most safe operating system in the world at that time. But still, there are so many problems and glitches need to be fixed. Besides there are mutable computer viruses are made specially to attack Window 2000. Rush to gain back the sales. In the 2001 October 25 Window xp is available. The new operating system fix most of the problem. Although some of the user were still complaining the system that it will take your information, but in the 2007 January, there are 76% of people in the entire world are using the operating system.
John Dillinger came from Indianapolis Indiana. He was known to be one of, if not the most famous bank robber of the 1930’s. In his career of crime, he was in prison on two separate offenses. When going to prison the first time, he was quoted saying “I will be the meanest bastard you ever saw when I get out of here” (johndillinger/ quotes).
Al Capone graced the cover of Time Magazine, known for his stylish, colorful, fancy double-breasted suits; Capone wanted to be perceived as a legitimate businessman. His signature white Fedora, seemed to signify that he was one of the “Good Guys”. Al Capone was not a modern-day Robin Hood, he was a gangster and a thug who made his money by poking fun at the law as it related to prohibition and other criminal activities. Capone and his henchmen made a fortune, by today’s standards; earning nearly an estimated one hundred million dollars running a criminal empire (“Documentary: Al Capone icon, 2014”), bootlegging, speakeasy’s, gambling, racketeering, prostitution and by boldly challenging law enforcement whenever they could “His operation was earning him more than $100 million annually, and many local police were on his payroll”, (Corbett, 2014 p. 712).
He was finally arrested in 1931. “In response to the public outcry over the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, President Herbert Hoover ordered the federal government to step up its efforts to get Capone on income-tax evasion” (“Al Capone,” 2009). He was then put in jail for the rest of his life for being convicted for tax evasion and prohibition charges. During his trial, he pled guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison and could not be released on bail. At the federal prison, he tried many different ways of bribery to convince jurors to release him or shorten his time, so he was then moved to the prison Alcatraz. During his time spent in jail, prohibition was ended in 1933. “After six-and-a-half years, Capone was released in 1939 to a mental hospital in Baltimore, where he remained for 3 years” (“Al Capone,” 2009). He completed his sentence in 1939 and was released. He decided to go live in his Palm Island Mansion where he lived up until January of 1947 and passed away from having a stroke and pneumonia due to syphilis. Capone suffered from syphilis his whole life, but of course, it got worse the older he got because his disease was incurable. After his death, the Chicago Outfit was still
Al Capone was a notorious gangster in Chicago during the years of Prohibition. He came to power when his partner and mentor, Johnny Torrio, fled Chicago for Italy fearing death threats. Torrio left Capone in charge to run a massive bootlegging, prostitution, gambling, and extortion business that made about $100,000,000 annually. Since these activities that Capone conducted were extremely illegal, Capone managed to bribe or blackmail officials to keep himself and his men out of jail. The government had a very difficult time trying to capture Capone because of his power, celebrity status, and money. After years of trying to catch Capone and send him to jail, the government finally succeeded. Instead of arresting Capone on accounts of murder, bootlegging, gambling, prostitution, extortion, etc. the government arrested him due to tax evasion. Despite its efforts, the United States Government did not do enough to stop Al Capone from terrorizing the city of Chicago during Prohibition.
Linux is a popular and widely used operating system and provides several options for use within business organizations as both a server and a workstation platform. Due to the open-source nature of the operating system there are various organizations who make available a server and a workstation platform along with their own customizations as part of a specific distribution.
Windows based computers are more practical, easier to use, and more versatile than Macintosh computers. There has always been much debate over which is the better system. There are people who are die-hard Macintosh users, and there are people who are the complete opposite, and naturally people sitting somewhere in between. The fact remains that the majority of home and business users own Windows based systems because of their versatility in all areas.
As the internet is becoming faster and faster, an operating system (OS) is needed to manage the data in computers. An Operating system can be considered to be a set of programed codes that are created to control hardware such as computers. In 1985 Windows was established as an operating system and a year earlier Mac OS was established, and they have dominated the market of the computer programs since that time. Although, many companies have provided other operating systems, most users still prefer Mac as the most secured system and windows as it provides more multiple functions. This essay will demonstrate the differences between windows
Microsoft, from its inception, has been known for its software, especially its Windows platform. It has changed the way we operate computers and through its software, has made the computer user-friendly and very efficient. Microsoft, however, does not want to only specialize in the software department. They have thus expanded their excellence in other departments such as gaming, music and hardware.
Microsoft’s mission of placing a “PC running Microsoft software on every desk and in every home” drove their overall strategy early on. Depending on the business segment within Microsoft, one would see in place very different business models as the strategy for each line of business could vary. In the operating system (OS) segment, Microsoft initially brought in an existing product and modified this (MS-DOS) to work with the Intel microprocessor, which were the “brains” of the IBM PC. Microsoft partnered with IBM to provide the operating system for the IBM PC. In addition to developing Windows, Microsoft during this period was working to write applications for the Apple OS.
Microsoft was originally created in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. They first introduced their software package, Window 1.0 in 1983, the first package to consist of a mouse which helps navigate a PC. MS-DOS commands were previously used to operate computer systems, however people found these extremely hard to understand. This Windows 1.0 package was a key turning point in Microsoft emergence. As time progressed Microsoft created updated versions which consisted of advanced graphics, built-in internet support, dial-up networking and much more (Microsoft, 2011). Windows packages started from Window 1.0 to the current version whic...
Windows hardware’s has played a vital role in current technology of computer era. Computer application has significantly changed the workloads and manual records and information keeping has been significantly managed easily. This has been tremendously associated with the respective improvements with the software and hardware application development and Windows Xp and windows 7 have been most powerful operating system used by many computer applicants and users.
Although Linux is more customizable and secure, Windows is more user friendly, and there is more user support for those who are having difficulty using the operating system.
An Operating system is system software that controls the system’s hardware that interacts with users and the application software. As we all may know, Windows Microsoft has always been a commercial high-level sale in the retail industry and an in domain operating system used today. But there are more operating systems than just Windows Microsoft than the general population may assume. Linux is another well-known operating systems, which is free and open-source software. Linux is also used in companies we would have never thought of like Google, NASA, USPS, Amazon and many more companies. Linux and Microsoft operating systems have been in competition to see which one is the best operating system in the market. There are so many resemblances
