Over my time spent learning about Lohan, I have learned quite a bit about her actions and her behaviors that lead her to her choices. According to TMZ’s (2011) biography on Lindsay, she started acting when she was ten years of age. This throws her into a very stressful and fast paced lifestyle at a very young age, which leaves her extremely susceptible to find ways to help control her stress. The massive amounts of attention from her fans, puts a tremendous burden on her.
Later on in her career, in 2007 she received two DUI’s, one ending in an accident. She has had been admitted to rehab on three separate occasions. The first time she was admitted to Promises in Malibu for addiction to alcohol and multiple illicit drugs including, OxyContin, a very potent painkiller, and cocaine. She stayed there for 45 days after completing her program. According to Meaghan Murphy (2007) article on FoxNews.com, after her first time in rehab, it was promising that she would no longer abuse and use narcotics, she had no intentions of using drugs, but the people she was around were using them. One of her friends stated that Lindsay “Does drugs because she is bored.” She often has depressing thoughts because of her lose of multiple friends to drug overdose.
Her most recent act of destruction involves a pending felony grand theft charge, where she attempted to illegally obtain a $2,500 designer necklace by the act of shoplifting from a Jewelry store. She has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, but got out on a $75,000 dollar bond.
In my exploration of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, I have found some very possible diagnosis for Miss Lohan. According to PsyWeb’s Online DSM IV-TR, Axis I, which relates to Clinical Dis...

...ction would be to put Lohan through aversion therapy, to help her avoid future encounters with drugs and problems with the law. This will help her make better decisions in what she decides to do and help her start to despise her past. Next, I would encourage behavioral self-control training. This will help her learn to cope with her problems without having to resort drugs and alcohol to make her feel better. Next, I would start her on SSRI’ (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). Zoloft is what I would recommend, it is a anti-depressant but it’s main function is to secrete more serotonin. Serotonin is also known as the happy hormone, because it helps with building self-esteem. This is my predicted treatment for Lindsay Lohan. I think that if she followed the methods suggested by me, then she would see that she can get better and continue her successful career.
She uses a variety of coping and defense mechanisms including: denial, rationalization, and displacement. Gwen used non-pharmalogical methods to overcome her addiction. She participated in group therapy, equine therapy, and family counseling. In some instances, physicians may prescribe medications such as benzodiazepine, anticonvulsants or disulfiram, an alcohol abuse therapy adjunct to help manage the side effects of withdrawal. Legal and ethical issues were also discussed. 28 Days is a great movie for addicts and their families to watch and help them understand the effects of addiction (Topping & Thomas, 2000). Addiction not only effects the abuser, but their family and friends,
“No wire hangers, ever!” Joan Crawford spoke to Christina Crawford in Mommie Dearest the movie. The scene where Joan says this is just one example of her having one or more psychological disorder. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns that cause a person to anguish. Also, they may cause a person to obstruct the capability to manage everyday activities (Rathus, 2010). Joan displays many psychological disorders, but the most visible are bipolar disorder, histrionic personality disorder, narcissistic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.
A year after Lohan’s breakthrough with the hit movie Mean Girls, began her timeline of arrests, assaults, accusations, and jail. Since 2005, she has been arrested from things ranging from driving under the influence, drug possession, missing court ordered sessions, thefts, and more. In an interview with Oprah, Lindsay revealed that her addiction to chaos stemmed from a dysfunction in her childhood. Lindsay Lohan has changed dramatically after the years of her downfall, physically and mentally. Her life, resulting from the chaos she had worked herself into, is in pieces, and her career is failing. Lohan is considered unemployable and uninsurable due to her history of drugs, arrests, and alcohol. She would have to remain clean and sober for a minimum of 5 years for a chance of getting a coverage plan from insurance. In this moment, only time can heal the damage and trouble she is known for, which is the reason why studios don’t want to take a risk by hiring her. Inside sources claim she’s 2 million dollars in debt, clearing up why she couldn’t hire a lawyer for her recent

Around 2003, Winehouse began developing a reputation as an unstable party girl, often showing up to her club or TV performances too drunk to sing a whole set. Even her most popular song “Rehab” is based off her refusal to receive treatment for her drug abuse. Winehouse’s health greatly deteriorated. Her weight dropped to a scary estimate of ninety-five pounds while her skin took on a sickly pallor. Her iconic beehive hair fell dull and limp along with her bold signature makeup. There are countless photographs of the singer walking the streets of London in an incoherent, strung out daze appearing as a shell of her former self. In addition, the drug abuse took a serious mental toll on Winehouse. Her behavior became violent and erratic; on multiple occasions she is documented fighting with fans. The various drugs in Amy’s system distorted her public image, career, but most importantly her
To begin with, I believe that Nicole has a mental health problem that stems from a couple of things: genetics, the way she was raised (nurture), and the abuse of alcohol. Genetics is a source of illness because of her mother, who committed suicide. The manner in which she was raised is also a factor because she has no limits and can do anything, and her father and stepmother seem like they try to disrespect to her throughout the movie. Lastly, the abuse of alcohol is a problem because instead of attacking her problems straight on, she is diverted by alcohol.
If there is one individual in the celebrity world that is known for his or her troubled thoughts or misbehavior, there isn’t anyone better to recognize other than Lindsay Lohan. An American star, model, and singer, Lohan was recognized in all different aspects of Hollywood because of her talents as a young actress. However, as her stardom continued to progress, so did the instability in her mental health. The mass media and people alike had an influence on Lohan’s behavior by distorting how she was portrayed on and off the screen. Lohan’s family life also had a huge impact on her turnout because she was constantly around the instability of her family members, thus affecting her mental
The behavioral perspective focuses on how prior experiences impact later experiences. As mentioned before Lovato’s unhealthy eating habits caused her weight gain which caused the bullying at the young age of 8 (Fox News). The prior experience of bullying led her to find new ways to lose weight. This caused her to become bulimic and anorexic. Lovato quickly became depressed. By age 11 she began self-harm by cutting her wrists. Lovato’s father was an alcoholic. In a 2015 interview with People Magazine Lovato shares, "My father had schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as well, and I watched him live a very unfortunate life because of the lack of access to treatment” (Weisensee). His alcoholism led to the decline of being a positive role model for his daughter. Behaviorism points to no role model in her childhood as another prior experience that may have led to her illness. Lovato modeled her own sporadic behavior after her father. She had no one to look up to in her family therefore no one was there to catch her before she spiraled out of control. Some psychologists would argue Lovato learned the behavior of her father and his bipolar disorder and then tried to mimic the behavior. The learned behavior would be explained by the concept of observational learning. For example, Lovato observed her dad drink a beer after a stressful day so when she experienced tough days she turned to
Throughout her life, Demi Lovato has fought with many disorders including bulimia nervosa and bipolar disorder. In 2011, she voluntarily checked into a rehab facility to receive treatment for bulimia nervosa; however, the facility’s doctors soon diagnosed her with bipolar disorder, most likely bipolar II disorder. After receiving this diagnosis, Lovato’s struggles in her past made much more sense. As a child, she was frequently bullied, and it was at this point in her life when the depression
Girl, Interrupted (Mangold, 1999) is a movie which walks us through the conditions of various mental illnesses, their impacts on their victims and those around them, and effective treatment methods. The movie takes a more cognitive-behavioral perspective to explain various aspects and types of mental illnesses. Lisa Rowe is one of the characters in Girl, Interrupted, who is diagnosed with a particular type of mental condition. Lisa was diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder. According to DSM-IV, this condition is a pattern of the violation of the rights of other people and disregarding them. Individuals with this type of mental illness, otherwise known as sociopaths, do not conform to the social norms regarding practicing lawful behaviors (Derefinko & Widiger, 2016). They undertake activities which warrant their arrest, like harming other people or property.
It’s that time of year again when men are looking forward to everything cooler weather symbolizes: football, mom’s holiday cooking and layered clothes. Joan Crawford, was one of the most popular and well known actresses in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s. Although her life was more extraordinary than mundane, she suffered from multiple personality disorders, as do many Americans. Personality disorders are patterns of inflexible traits that disrupt social life or work and may distress the affected individual (Rathus, 2016). The movie Mommie Dearest, captures moments in Crawford’s life that show her struggles with her personality disorders. Throughout the movie, you watch her personalities become more prominent and abusive. Her main disorders include borderline and paranoid personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as histrionic and narcissistic personality disorder.
Modern society has made a sub-culture that lives in a reality that is not real. It is so far from the truth that the inhabitants of this sub-culture so often cannot live in both realities and have become a spectacle for others to marvel at. This sub-culture is made up of entertainers, millionaires, and athletes. The people in this group can range from newborns to death and some live on well after. The specimens that I find an interest in are the young ones that enter into this society not knowing well that their lives will never be the same. Britney Spears was just another victim of the society that brings into their prison.
