Just normal people’s of sense humanity thrown away. Treated unbearably beyond the human race. Abandoned in a vast hole of struggle and fear. They have witnessed and have taken in the endless suffering and humiliation by the ones who tormented them. Not only are they fighting for the will to be alive, but also they are combating a war with their own. Some how these people manage find hope. They find that one speck of flickering light in the darkness that has no limits. After looking at two literary works “Night”, by Elie Wiesel an autobiography, and the film “Life is Beautiful”. Both of these works show the unbearably painful experience of being situated in concentration camps and witnessing deeply observant Jews confronting the absolute evil …show more content…

In the scene where Guido is caught by the guards when trying to save his wife, he dances goofily in front of Joshua to make him think that everything is alright after that Guido is shot to his death, but he saved his wife and son. In the camp, Guido made up a game to protect Joshua from the harsh reality and the cruelty of his surroundings. The tone throughout the movie is humorous and goofy and allows his son to survive. This shows that Joshua’s ignorance is bliss. Guido used his son’s innocence to give him light in the darkness. It allowed Joshua to focus on the game and forget about the darkness and cruelty around him. On the other hand the book Night is somber, truthful, thoughtful, honest, harsh, and mournful. The book is more realistic and represents the true labor intense events of the camps. Elie stated “Bread, soup - these were my whole life. I was a body. Perhaps less than that even: a starved stomach. The stomach alone was aware of the passage of time (Weisel, 1956).” Everything around them didn’t matter all they needed was any food, just a ration a bread was enough for them to give them the speck of light that they could manage find.
