Life events are what shape the fabric of our souls. They could include; being accepted to college, a first job, or the death of a family member, but this is certainly not an all-inclusive list. Life events are significant milestones in an individual’s growth, impacting future decisions and views. An event that inspired me was 4,000 miles away from home. It was my first trip out of the country; the family flew to London, England. This trip opened my eyes to the greater world in which we live. As an American, I assumed the world spun around the United States, as the Earth spins around the sun. It was curious to me that I did not sense this nationalistic arrogance from anyone I encountered, but more of a quiet pride in their heritage. They believed
Stepping out of my first plane ride, I experience an epiphany of new culture, which seems to me as a whole new world. Buzzing around my ears are conversations in an unfamiliar language that intrigues me. It then struck me that after twenty hours of a seemingly perpetual plane ride that I finally arrived in The United States of America, a country full of new opportunities. It was this moment that I realized how diverse and big this world is. This is the story of my new life in America.
I walked around unsteadily all day like a lost baby, far away from its pack. Surrounded by unfamiliar territory and uncomfortable weather, I tried to search for any signs of similarities with my previous country. I roamed around from place to place and moved along with the day, wanting to just get away and go back home. This was my first day in the United States of America.
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
This reflection paper is based on the life history interview conducted on me and a 78-year-old woman who is soon going to celebrate her 79th birthday on Sep 21st. I would call her with a fictitious name “Smita” in the entire paper to maintain and protect her privacy. The interview was about our life. It was divided into six major life categories: childhood, adulthood, identity, the present, aging, and life lessons. Having an opportunity to interview a 78-year-old woman and writing this reflective paper about the life history and experiences had made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the stages of human life. Every individual lives are different and it varies tremendously. As an interviewee my goal was to collect the details of life, different stories, and experiences that makes our life unique from the rest of the people.
Everyone has a special event that determines our life journey. This event can give us identity, happiness or even pain and sadness. The special event that changed my life was deciding to play basketball because basketball helped me find peace, happiness and gave me identity. When I was ten years old my grandfather succumbed to cancer. His death created hatred inside of me.
As a child I suffered an event that framed my life, a catastrophe that would change my life at least temporarily. This catastrophe changed things all around me, things in my family changed and things at home changed ever since that day. I remember we were all exited, we were going on a family vacation to different regions of Colombia.

Everything in my life thus far has been part of my personal legend. Since the moment I walked this earth I had one purpose, to be the best I could be. To be the best at anything and everything I set my mind too. As I grew I began to feel a strong pull towards one specific thing, one thing I felt I had to be successful at. That one thing was BMX, since the moment I rode my bike on the track I knew I wanted to be the very best, that I wanted to go to the Olympics. Ever since I have strived for greatness, training, endless hours of pain, i've sacrificed everything, but in the end those sacrifices don’t feel like sacrifices when you're winning national titles. I have never felt such a rush and such a drive for anything in my life, and that is why I feel that this is truly my personal legend, I feel the universe would not set me up for a task this great if it did not think that I had the drive, the patience, and the passion to fulfill my legend.
There are different events that can shape the lives of people; some can be good and others can be bad. I, for example, have experienced an event that has impacted my life, shaping me into the person I am today. This meaningful event was when I first moved to this country. People never give thought to the little events that can change your life in a second. I never realized how important it was for me to move here until I reflect on every obstacle that made it hard for me to become who I am.

Reflecting back throughout my life, I realized I acquired the pertinent lessons in life from some extremely, unlikely sources, although I would not realize the importance of the lessons for several years. This is a lesson that I value and continue still today. Unsure whether to call it observation or understanding or perhaps even humbleness. The name of this lesson is far less important than daily practicing of this behavior. Realizing that all people, regardless of their age, race, or gender, have something to teach as long as my mind is open to receiving is the greatest tidbit of knowledge I have. Liking them or agreeing is not a condition of this lesson. Some of the greatest lessons I have received during my life have come from the strangest
I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
It was December 4, 2014 and it was snowing outside. I was sitting at the kitchen table doing homework. All my family was downstairs, so I was all alone. My English teacher told us to write a paper about how I am different from my classmates. I was thinking about what in my life makes me different and slowly my whole life was playing like a movie in my head. The first memory that popped into my head was my fourth birthday party. It was supposed to be the best birthday ever. My dad was going to come. It was February 24, 2002 at my birthday party. There were so many people there, but I was so focused on my dad coming, no one else seemed to matter. My cake was pink and yellow with a bicycle on it. I had a red and blue inflatable that kids were
