1.) Describe the extent to which- if any- you personally have been troubled by the problem of evil. According to Vardy and Arliss (2003) “Evil is one of the deepest and most central problems of human existence—a problem that every individual and every age must face for itself” (p.6). Life consists of successes and hardships. At a young age, my mother always told me that obtaining an education is the key to a successful and bright future. Today, I am attending Felician University, and I am half way through my long and stressful undergraduate career. On November 9, 2015, Christopher Lewis Calderone passed away in a tragic car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. One week before his death, Chris and I had a conversation regarding my sexuality—he was truly support. On November 13, 2015, Chris’s wake took place in Brick, New Jersey. I was in complete shock, as a passed by his casket, I began to question the true meaning of life and why bad things happen to good people. After Chris’s death, I opened my eyes and viewed life from a new perspective. Today, I am finally free. I have the opportunity to live my life the way I want to live it. In ten-to-fifteen years from now, I see myself as a well-loved and successful educator, son, friend, father, and husband—this comforts me. I will be providing for my beloved mother the lifestyle she deserves. I will be making my friends laugh more than ever while living with my Gatsby, the man of my dreams. In life, one should not regret; instead, one should live life to the fullest. Do not look back. Chris did not look back.
