As most of you know, this past quarter I have been interning for the San Luis Obispo Superior Court and will continue to do so until I graduate from college in 2019. Additionally, this summer I got the amazing opportunity to go abroad and take what I've learned from my current internship and apply those skills at various different international law firms in Madrid, Spain as part of the Lex Fellowship. Of course, nothing is ever free and the cost associated with this fellowship is manageable only if I had no other bills to pay. I currently work two separate jobs in addition to my internship and the money I make alone covers my utilities, rent, and any other school associated costs. That is why I am reaching out to all of you who support me to …show more content…
Through my internship I have learned a lot about the various different kinds of civil law: car accidents, evictions, adoptions, wrongful death cases, collections cases, etc. and I am interested in the Lex Fellowship because of the broader opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the law: international human rights, criminal law, intellectual property, entertainment law, etc. My program date is from July 15th through August 10th. There is a $700 enrollment fee, which I have already paid and is nonrefundable, and the rest of the program cost is approximately $3,299 which includes housing, transportation, travel insurance and of course the opportunity itself. Food and my round trip plane ticket are not included in the program fee so I will have to front those costs myself. I've never even been on a plane! I don't even have a passport yet so this is truly me hitting a milestone in my …show more content…
After I graduate in June of next year I will be taking a gap year and returning to school to pursue a JD/PhD program with in an emphasis in either Political Methodology or Women, Gender and Sexuality. I have taken classes with the following topics: the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, queer and disability studies, feminist legal theory, reproductive politics, the social construction of "whiteness", free speech, mock trial, restorative justice, constitutional theory, business legal theory, and more. My senior project, which I will be completing by the next year, involves how vegan/vegetarianism and the animal rights movement impacts indigenous/non western cultures. I have spent the last two years on the Cal Poly Debate Team as a judge and have traveled to over eight different universities in the state of California to participate in intercollegiate competitions. I am also involved in two different co-ed fraternities: Alpha Phi Omega (an international service fraternity) and Phi Alpha Delta (an international pre-law fraternity) which I hold an executive position
I am writing to express my strong interest in being a member of Alpha Omicron chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. I am currently a sophomore at Syracuse University, and will be graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Global Political Economy.
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
One of the biggest issues that many students and parents have concerning college education is the cost. Due to the state of the economy, affording college has become very difficult. Fortunately, the government is able to provide financial assistance in addition to the University’s own financial aid. Case is a private institution which means that it costs more compared to a public college. The tuition for Case was approximately, $38,000 in 2007 not including living or book expenses. Even though there was a tuition rate increase for every following year. The only way I was able to afford the tuition at Case was because of the scholarship I earned. In addition, I received federal grants and a substantial amount of aid from the University. I did not have a free ride but I received a great deal of financial help to pay for my college education.
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
Every year students at an accredited university have a decision to join groups/activities. In many cases a lot of students choose to join either a fraternity or a
Walking into college, I always wanted to join a brotherhood. But, it was hard to find the one for me at first. After striking out on a few other fraternities at SEMO, I didn’t know if Greek Life was for me. But after talking one night with Brian Smith, I would give my one last shot to Sigma Nu. Looking back, I couldn’t have been happier with my decision. Over the past few months I have grown into a better person and have achieved goals I wouldn’t have even thought about being able to achieve. Looking back throughout my candidate process I can say I have strived for Love, Truth, and Honor.
Unfortunately, my family and I fall into an area of the middle class that prohibits us from receiving need-based aid. Although I have graciously been awarded the Elizabeth Ann Seton Scholarship, without some additional form of aid, a Seton Hill education may be prohibitively expensive. My fourth year’s tuition alone would cost $37,520 with my current scholarship, and I would still have to pay for living expenses. Once my undergraduate and fifth years’ expenses are included, I will be over $150,000 in debt when I graduate. As a student who has worked exceedingly hard in the classroom and as a leader for four years, this amount of financial burden feels like a punishment. If I do not receive the Seton Scholar Award, I am not confident that I can attend Seton Hill and make the impacts I have described in this
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. Because of that, ever since the beginning of high school, I have been trying to find an extraordinary reason, a purpose for my medical pursuits. Perhaps I could justify my passion for
After meeting Laura Devine at an internship fair last fall on my campus, she made a lasting impression on me that left me inspired to be a part of this program if I received an opportunity. Laura seemed elated when explaining the program and I really appreciated the time she took to expand on her experiences with the program. It was inspiring to see someone so passionate for helping others, while also learning a great deal about the legal system, as I strive to do. I want to help others like Laura has, as this process of being a self-representing litigator, though I have not been in that position, must be incredibly daunting and exhausting. I hope that when anyone is distressed I can assist them, and it seems like this is an amazing organization for me just to do that.
According to New Mexico State University, “In the fraternity/sorority, you will be in ‘charge’ of an event or a duty. Everyone in the fraternity/sorority is a leader, whether you’re an officer, on a committee, or just a participant. You will learn by doing. You’ll learn how to manage a budget, run effective meetings, speak in public, and motivate others … skills that will help you in the university and throughout your life. These days it acquires more than just a degree to acquire a good job- it takes leadership experience.(Benefits of Greek Life)” These positions that women and men of Greek life run for actually resemble those of actual positions in the everyday work force. Rochester Institute of Technology says that “Opportunities to learn and practice leadership stretch beyond chapters. There are many system-wide leadership roles open on the IFC, CPC, and MGC. Beyond the Greek community, fraternity men and sorority women involved in many other organizations on campus. Some of these include Student Government, athletic teams, and many student clubs.(Advantages of Greek Life)” This proves, not only do members have positions within their own organization, but numerous have chosen to take in holding other positions all over campus. Many of these
As a student that attends UNC Wilmington I understand the monetary factors that must be met in order to attend. Unlike other schools I didn’t receive a merit scholarship to attend and soon realized I didn’t have twenty grand lying around either. Great lengths were met in order for me to even be able to register for class. The first step I ha...
The next organization I am apart of is Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. One of our key principles is service. Through my sorority, I volunteer around campus and the Columbus community putting on events like sleep out for the homeless, and toiletry drives for the veterans. Lastly through organizations such as Switch, and “The Stories Behind Their Eyes” human trafficking coalition, I help to combat human trafficking in the greater Columbus area as well as help the victims get back on their feet.
I have longed to find an opportunity like this one! I believe that this program is a big step towards achieving my goals. I really hope you will consider my application, and I thank you for your time and consideration.
I have high hopes of being selected to write a Political Science honors thesis. This is a three quarter class in which I would work directly with a professor to explore a research topic of my choosing. This would give me the ability to delve deeper into my studies and hone my research and writing skills. I have aspirations of attending law school following my graduation at UC Santa Barbara. My double major will provide me a strong base knowledge of the material that I will utilize in law school.
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect, analyze, and synthesize on my internship experience at the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program.
