Martin Luther King Jr. was placed in jail after participating in the Birmingham campaign. At this time King was president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and his presence was requested by an Alabama group that wanted him to participate in a "nonviolent direct-action program" in Birmingham. King along with other member of his group agreed to go and participate. These nonviolent protests resulted in the participents being thrown into jail. While in jail, eight clergymen wrote in the paper staying blacks should not support for Martin Luther King Jr. and the other protestors. King replied to the clergymen a few days later with a letter and aimed towards the "white moderate" as well. The "white moderate" is the white population and King wanted them to hear his opinion on the matter. In this letter king is explaining the actions of himself as well as his fellow protestors in the movement. King uses logic, ethics, and emotion to persuade his audience why civil rights should be given to African Americans. The use of these three elements throughout his whole letter along with imagery king is able to create a visual and persuasive piece that shows his point of view.
In 1839, Lin Zexu wrote The letter to Queen Victoria, in attempt to stop the evolving addiction to opium in China. The letter expressed China's desire for a peaceful resolution to the opium trade. He the limited and quite incorrect knowledge he had on the issue in hopes to gain sympathic understanding. Lin used Confucian teachings, historical events, plus forceful reasoning on moral grounds in order to persuade the English monarch that he would not ask of them anything he would not be comfortable doing himself. The letter created an ultimatum made by Commissioner Lin on behalf of the Qing Emperor to the English monarch, delivering the clear message that he and the Qing government were determined to ban the selling and smoking of opium once and for all at any cost.

PVRN’s are responsible for following up on any positive culture results to make sure the patient is on an appropriate treatment plan. If they are not receiving the correct treatment, the PVRN must contact the doctor to get orders for the necessary medications and educate the family of the updated treatment plan. It’s Ilse Kloosterman, and I’m so excited for you to be my English teacher and help me to challenge myself, grow in my writing and reading skills, and think a little deeper. English is a fairly tough for me, as I have awful grammar, and I have troubles with creative thinking. When writing without a specific topic, I find it challenging to come up with a true solid idea. Also, it’s extremely difficult when writing, to keep my writing brief and concise, or afterward trying to find ways to shorten it.

My name is Jeffrey Magloire and I am a current matriculating student at Sullivan County Community College I have a couple of issues that I wanted to bring forward to your attention. As you may or may not know Sullivan County Community College has just constructed a new dormitory for incoming students. This Dormitory has opened up doors to many students that could not handle the commute to and from school. Although the dormitory has been an advantage to students traveling; the students have been living in poor condition for the last five weeks. The first problem occurred the day we walked in. The students were put into rooms where the paint smell was still resident and was the cause of two asthma attacks. We still have not received camera’s which would have been no problem if they had more than two security guards for each shift in our 350 capacity student dorm. I have read the contract that was handed to me and the dormitory has violated many promises made on that contract. The first violation has made many students drop out of school and go home and miss one semester of school. The Dormitory Corporation promised us daily maintenance on all of our bathrooms but the maintenance workers come only three times a week which has raised hazardous fumes coming from the bathroom and also the bathroom utensils are not available to students frequently which has deferred the students from having proper hygiene. The roof fire alarm has not been turned off due to the shortness of security officers and the alarm goes off every night due to loitering. They also promised that we will have telephone service which has not been honored and most of students have no way of contacting their friends and family. The School has one phone line and that one phone line is occupied by resident assistant, resident managers, security and is also the phone that security uses to contact the fire department in case of emergency.
I have written you to discuss our national budget and the inherent problems in our fiscal policy. Although I am not the best informed on this subject I think my opinions and ideas are relevant. I have several ideas for both raising more capital and lowering government expenditure. I believe action must be taken on both fronts to curb our national debt before it adversely affects our economy.
My educational background is quite diverse. I spent my last three years at the Geelong College Australia, and have successfully finished year 12 there. My choices of subjects reflected the diversity of my interests - English, Mathematics, International Studies, Legal Studies, and Economics. I excelled in International Studies and was awarded Academic Merit. Upon my return to Surabaya at the start of year 1999, I attended IBMT (Institute of Business Management and Technology), an International University which follows the United States curriculum, at which I majored in International Management.
