Mercy killing and capital punishment are both a totally different thing. Mercy killing is the killing of someone in pain or has a disease and will eventually die. Capital punishment is when they are legally authorized to kill someone in punishment for committing a crime. In George and Lennie’s situation, in the novel Of Mice and Men by john Steinbeck, George killed Lennie for his benefit and for himself since if he did not kill Lennie then Carlson or Curley would have kill him for Curley’s wife death. Even though Lennie didn’t do it on purpose he would still go to jail for that , and George benefits if he killed Lennie . George killing Lennie was all capital punishment but either way George still did not have to kill Lennie.

and men takes place during the great depression which was from 1929 through 1941 when the world war II began . This story is one of many of the publish novels written from the obscure point of view.
When Lennie was born his Aunt Clare took care of him instead of his parent since his parents did not want him because he was born with mental problems .During Lennie’s childhood he got to meet George Milton and they became best friends . Later on when Aunt Clara died George started taking care of Lennie they were always together even in their job then one day while Lennie and George where at a party they had to leave from weed since Lennie was accused of raped even though it was not since Lennie just wanted to touch a girls dress that he thought was pretty . They left to California where they got a new job in a ranch . Where George tell slim about everything that happened in weed . Later in the after noon carlson started complaining about candy's dog of how old and stinky he was so he offered to kill the dog and candy did not want to but Carlson eventually convinced Candy after Carlson kills the dog Candy regrets it ,he says he would have prefer been him the one who kill the dog instead of Carlson and while Candy was regretting it Lennie wanted George to tell the story about the farm they will have so he did. …show more content…
Candy heard about it so he offered to help if they would to accept him in the farm as well since he got money from, when he lost his hand and after talking George accepted . Then one day when George and some of the workers went to the whore house Lennie stayed behind and went around and found crooks, the niggas room so Lennie told crooks about his dreams and all even though crooks disagreed about it . Lennie went to pet his puppy that slim had gave him but accidently kill him and Curley's wife comes and asks him to touch her hair and when Lennie does he likes her hair and don’t wants to let go of it but when Curley's wife tells Lennie to let go but he just gets scared and pulls harder until Curley's wife neck cracks and she dies . Lennie gets more scared and just lays her into the bed and go where George told him to go whenever he gets in trouble after some minutes had pass George comes and Lennie asks him if his mad but George just tell Lennie his not. So Lennie asks him to tell him the story about the farm and while George starts telling the story George gets out the gun and shots Lennie just behind his head . Lennie small is a migrant worker who is mentally acuity, big and super strong. Who depends on his friend George who gives him advices and protects him in situations Lennie's does not understand . George Milton is a migrant worker as well who protects and takes care of Lennie Small. George dreams of one day getting his own land but realizes how hard it is on making his dream come true. They are both important in the story since there are the main characters in the novel where there trying to make their dreams come true even though its really hard for them both. Mercy killing is when a person is being killed because of a incurable and painful disease or just to make them stop suffering.
Then capital punishment is when a person is killed or punished for committing a crime.my positions is that capital punishment is wrong even though that some people do have to be punished because of what they did is wrong but there's no reason to just go killing people for their mistakes when they can just take them to jail .
The article of court wont intervene in Ga execution shows something similar to what happened in the story like in here there's been many cases were people who have mental problems and do stuff with out meaning it still get executed and they don not forgive them . Society should try to make their place a better place to live on and do not take advantages of the laws since there are mad for a purpose and that purpose is to have a better place to live on .But since there is till people who capital punish other for their own beneficial or the person being
killed. In Mice and Men John Steinbeck states how dreams sometimes can come true but to be realistic they do not always come true like in " Of Mice and Men" the dream of George and Lennie on getting the farm did not come true as well as in Curley's wife dream on being a actress did not come true or in how Candy was not able to accomplish his dream as well. Then we can learned as well that only people with money and power remain unoppressed by society. And all the others are to some extent oppresses people who do have the power and the money. A example is on how Crooks said that he has seen many men who have come talking about how they will accomplish there dreams one day but they never do since they do not always do something to actually try to make it come true. Like in George situation instead of keep on trying and going out to get Lennie's and George dream he goes and kills Lennie for capital punishment. Since Lennie was guilty for killing Curly's wife even though he did not do it on purpose .
George and Lennie were lifelong friends and had varying personalities even from the start. Lennie thought about how his Aunt Clara said he should have been more like George. At the time when the story took place, the two men were travelling together, and had been for some time, working and then moving on to search for the next job they could find. They were like many other men in search for work, except it was rare for men to travel together. George felt a need to take care of Lennie because he was somewhat slow. George was an average man of the time. He was a good size, nice, but firm, and he had aspirations to be more than just a nomadic laborer. Lennie, on the other hand, had always been a little different. He was big, goofy, clumsy, but sweet. They were also both good workers. George was concerned with working and getting his money before they got into trouble and had to leave camp. Lennie was the one who normally started the trouble. He was a hard worker and lived to appease George, but he got distracted easily which angered George. George told about how they would own a house and a farm together and work for themselves. Lennie loved to hear the story and think about the possibilities, even though nobody knew if any of it was a possibility. George and Lennie's differences in part led to George's inclination to kill Lennie. Despite their dissimilarity, the two men needed each other probably more than they realized.
After Lennie makes his mistake of killing Curley's wife the other characters want to brutally kill him being led by Curley but George who realises that this is a cruel way for Lennie to die and that he can’t save Lennie he decides that Lennie must have a merciful death. The reader infers when Curley says “ ‘I know who done it,[...][It was lennie].I know he done it. [...] I’m gonna get him. I’m going for my shotgun[...]I’ll shoot him in the guts’ ” ( 96). In this quote we understand that Curley plans on killing Lennie but in a more painful way than Lennie deserves. Thus George realizes that Lennie is about to be killed in a horrific way so he intervenes and kills Lennie in a peaceful way. This shows that mercy killing is to be done over the horrific way that Curley wants to take out Lenie. Because Lennie would have a much worse death than needed and Lennie could have put up a fight, George completes a mercy killing as the safest
George did not ask Lennie if he wanted to be killed. Mercy killings are usually a patient requesting the action, so it’s usually not done without consent like the situation in this book. Also, there were many other options for Lennie like him living in the mountains as he mentions. “‘George gonna wish he was alone an’ not have me botherin’ him.’ He turned his head and looked at the bright mountaintops. ‘I can go right off there an' find a cave,’ he said. And he continued sadly, '--an' never have no ketchup--but I won't care. If George don't want me...I'll go away. I'll go away'"(Steinbeck 100). The evidence proves that there were other options than killing Lennie. He could have lived in the mountains with or without George. They could have hidden in the brush somewhere far away from Curley, and none of these actions would’ve been necessary.
“And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger.” (Steinbeck 106). In John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, Lennie Small is a middle-aged character with a severe mental disability. He always feels as if he has to be petting something soft, or that satisfies his touch. One of these things he pets is a woman’s hair, and as he started to pet it more, she started getting angry and was shaking, as she thought he was ruining it. As he got nervous, because he had never seen a woman up close before, and he snapped her neck and killed her, accidentally. Lennie then ran away from the ranch where he was working and George Milton, his lifelong friend and travel buddy, found him, and decided to shoot and murder him thinking it would be the best way to handle the situation. It was considered a mercy killing in his eyes, when it was really a murder. Mercy killings are told to be assisted suicide, where one chooses to end their
Ever since Lennie’s Aunt Clara died, George had to look after him because Lennie cannot look after himself (Steinbeck). Lennie accidentally scared a girl and he and George had to leave Weed, and they had to go get new jobs (Attell). George gets angry at Lennie for accidentally getting them in trouble and says he should leave and how easier his life would be without Lennie (Hart). He then tells Lennie that he did not mean what he said and would not leave him (Hart).
George begins to hear the footsteps of the other men. To prevent the men from killing Lennie, George decides he has to kill Lennie himself. The scene is almost parallel to when Carlson shot Candy’s dog and Candy regretted that he did not kill his dog himself, but allowed a complete stranger to do it. As George talks to Lennie about the dream farm, “.[George] raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. He pulled the trigger.
Lennie is stuck in a childhood state, and is the main reason the farm exists. “Now Candy spoke his greatest fear, ‘You a’me can go there an’ live nice, can’t we, george?’...George said softly, ‘-I think I know from the very first, I think I knowed we’d never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much I got to thinking maybe we would.’” They realize that without Lennie, there is no farm. As Lennie dies, so does the dream of a farm.
Proponents of capital punishment believe that killing criminals is a moral and ethical way of punishing them. They feel there is justification in taking the life of a certain criminal, when in fact that justification is nothing more than revenge. They also feel that the death penalty deters crime, although there have been no conclusive studies confirming that viewpoint (Bedau).
Capital punishment is punishment for a crime by death, which is frequently referred to as the death penalty. Today, most countries have abolished the death penalty. America is one of the few countries that has kept this form cruel and inhumane form of punishment. In American history, the death penalty was abolished, but it was brought back not long afterwards. Not only is capital punishment inhumane and pricey but it also voids our rights as a citizen and is unconstitutional. Capital punishment is an improper form of punishment that needs to be abolished in all states.
Mercy killing is the act of taking someone’s life painlessly. Victims of mercy killing “include persons who are in a vegetative state or those who suffer from an incurable and painful disease or condition.” People argue and refute mercy killing whether it is acceptable or not. It is neither acceptable nor wrong, arguably it is required to be a necessity when dealing with cases when there are no other options than surviving in the world in misery. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck’s character, Lennie, mentally ill, has committed a treacherous act of murder by mere accident because he was panicked. He is mercy killed by his close friend and sort of master, George, so that he will no longer be in misery and suffering. Mercy killing is a
George and Lennie have to continue to move around the country looking for work until Lennie screws up again. The instability of work only makes it that much harder for them to complete their dream of a farm of their own. Candy’s participation in the dream of the farm upgrades the dream into a possible reality. As the tending of rabbits comes closer to happening fate curses them with the accidental death of Curley’s wife. The end of their wishful thinking is summed up by Candy’s question on page 104, “Then-it’s all off?”
However, many people are against the very idea of capital punishment, they believe that it is wrong to take a life even if that life committed horrible crimes, this controversial dispute had sparked from the beginning of the modern world as you and I know it and it is continuously being kindle by both side of the argument and will survive throughout the generation. Capital punishment is needed in the cruel and scary world of that we live-in today, it is a mean of punishing wrong doer of repulsive crimes such as rape and murder or otherwise they will just roam free to recommit the same crime or worst stay in prison that are paid for by us tax payer. There are always two sides to every issue and capital punishment or life imprisonment is no different. This has been a very controversial issue for decades and still is today. Capital Punishment also known as the death penalty is defined as being the penalty of death for a crime. Some feel that capital punishment should be abolished because it is cruel; others believe life in prison is just as cruel. There are many reasons for the support of Capital Punishment and for Life in Prison.
The death penalty is by far the most controversial topic in today 's society. However, there are many people who supports the death penalty, yet there is also a great amount of people who believe the death penalty is wrong. The death penalty, or capital punishment, is the punishment of execution that is administered to someone who is legally convicted of a capital crime. Although opponents of the death penalty believe that it is against human rights, capital punishment is appropriate with the support of the fifth amendment, it is morally acceptable, and gives Justice to the victims and their families.
Capital punishment is the punishment of death for a crime given by the state. It is used for a variety of crimes such as murder, drug trafficking and treason. Many countries also have the death penalty for sexual crimes such as rape, incest and adultery. The lethal injection, the electric chair, hanging and stoning are all methods of execution used throughout the world. Capital punishment has been around since ancient times; it was used in ancient Rome, and one of the most famous people to be crucified was Jesus Christ. Capital punishment is now illegal in many countries, like the United Kingdom, France and Germany, but it is also legal in many other countries such as China and the USA. There is a large debate on whether or not capital punishment should be illegal all over the world as everyone has a different opinion on it. In this essay, I will state arguments for and against the death penalty, as well as my own opinion: capital punishment should be illegal everywhere.
