With all of the designing that was happening in the company, it helped to shrink its profits. Lego City was a popular toy for children but the redesigning shrank the sales and attention the product was once getting. A worker of Lego said it well when he said, “Management was to blame, the same people who were doing crappy products then are making world-class products today” (Greene). Essentially the managers and higher up executives didn’t communication what direction the company should be going. They didn’t have a strategy to follow and tell their employees. With no clear strategy and communication in place, things were a free for all. This lead to the declining profits and stability of the company. Lego assumed that if the designers were able to create whatever they saw fit, that somehow it would lead to a breakthrough in the toy maker’s product line. If one customer is angry at the company and threatens to never buy a product, what does losing one customer do to the profitability of Lego? Essentially nothing. They would lose a customer with no power. Now if half of the customers complained that they wanted something to change, then that is a huge amount of potential profit. In this scenario the buyers have a lot of power. Lego would want to keep the larger group happy. If the customers go to a different company then Lego could run into problems. Whereas if one or two customer leave then it isn’t a problem because they do not have a high buyer power. Lego has the opportunity to branch out into different product lines. In 1984 the Party of Oceania and the antagonist, President Business in The Lego Movie portray similar characteristics and goals which connect to the theme. In both the pieces of literature, there are totalitarian controlled communities. They are both controlled by hierarchies who's only determination is perfection and complete control over their society. In 1984, the Big Brother and the Party have total control over their society by asking the citizens to perfect the ideology of thought crime. They have the perfect vision of a society where people only love and worship the Party. In the Lego Movie, President Business wants to have a perfect society who only follows the rules given to them by him; if what he wills is not fulfilled he uses a cotton swab to perfect the blemish which would make his society perfect. In this society there are TVs everywhere displaying propaganda and there is also a 24/7 surveillance system. The two hierarchies illusion of a perfect society to obtain control, requires the loss of human nature and human creativity. This consequently involves the sacrifice of freedom of thought, speech and the expression of emotions .

The Lego Movie is the story of a complete and utter dystopia but everybody does not know it. When Lord Business pretends to give them taco Tuesday as a form of gift or propaganda, he actually intends to glue them all in one place using the kragle (krazy glue with letters wiped off the tube). When he tries to do this, he is stopped by a simple minded construction worker, who at an earlier date has accidentally found the piece of resistance and learnt how to be a master builder. Through this confrontation will Lord Business rule over the world or will Emmet be able to save his home from being destroyed.
The Lego movie is the story of a simpleton turned knight-in-shining-armor and co on their journey to the top as they brave life on the run from a benevolent dictator in order to foil his devious plot to freeze the world in his image for all eternity. To make matters worse, pretty much each and every citizen is completely oblivious to the full extent of the chaos that is ensuing. Conformity is especially prevalent in The Lego Movie because it plays on the fact that, while Legos can be used with creativity, they are generally very instruction oriented (e.g. instruction booklets for every lego set). As stated by Joel Arnold, an NPR movie reviewer, “there's an instruction manual for everything, and Emmet eats, watches and says exactly what he's supposed to. The instructions say that's how you fit in, make friends, lead a happy life”. This was a huge problem for Lego with its licensed products such as Lego Star Wars and Lego Harry Potter. The problem with this was that Lego was unable to see that their licensed products were its new bread and butter especially after they had evolved their standard Lego lineup into a hemorrhaging problem. The main issue with the licensed products was the fact that Lego in conjunction with their lack of accountability was unable to document their toy profits, and when those toys were most popular. With a little help Lego could have identified that their licensed toys, while producing huge profits, were only truly profitable for a short period following the movies for which they were licensed after. Had Lego been able to identify this trend and shifted production to its next licensed product, it would have had a much better shot at sustaining an ongoing growth pattern. The LEGO Group organization is famous due to its flagship product – colourful plastic bricks that can be interlocked to form a variety of figures, and then disconnected again. The first cause is the premium-position captivity that is”the inability of a firm to respond effectively to new, low-cost competitive challenge or to a significant shift in customer valuation of product features” (p.54). The second reason is the innovation management breakdown that is”some chronic problem in managing the internal business process for updating existing product and services and creating new one” (p.56). Third reason is the premature core abandonment that means “the failure to fully exploit growth opportunities in the existing core business” and “acquisitions of growth initiatives in areas relatively distant from existing customers, products, and channels”(p.56). Finally, the fourth cause is the talent bench shortfall that is “a lack of leaders and staff with the skills and capabilities required for strategy execution” (p.58).
