Today more and more people are deciding to side with the legalization of the substance, for America. For those who never give the legalization of marijuana a time of day or those who are hesitant on giving it a chance, are now starting to believe that the legalization of the substance would ultimately be helpful for the United States. As always, with every subject that rises up in the United States, there are people that are for the subject and also others that are against the subject. The legalization of Marijuana throughout the entire U.S. is one of the largest controversial arguments between both people and federal officers. As wrote in LegalizationOfMarijuana, “Prohibition must be weighed against the loss of personal freedom. Countries …show more content…
“The immorality of marijuana use can only be based on one set of moral beliefs. For example, it is discriminatory to claim that Judeo-Christian abstinence from intoxication is the correct set or moral beliefs” (Arguments For And Against Legalization Of Marijuana). The legalization of Marijuana has many advantages and disadvantages. If this product is legalized, then it would be acceptable to skyrocket the taxes to purchase in-order to maintain control. The disadvantage may be a slight increase of individuals driving while high or intoxicated. “Legal prohibition does not stop consumers from consuming drugs, it does not stop trafficants from producing and selling it. The price of the final product increases to abnormally high values because of the black market status, which together with the powerful effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction” (Arguments For And Against Legalization …show more content…
The federal uniform controlled substance act is overdated and should be lifted. There is an unreal amount of clear points that prove legalizing marijuana would only help further the United States of America in medical research and boot the nation 's economy. With the amount of medical capabilities, economic relief, crime reduction, and the mere fact that it has been legalized in a couple states the legalization of this substance should not even be an argument anymore. All of the points argued for are very relevant and directly impact the United States in a positive way. The pro marijuana legalization is backed with pure facts, while those opposed are backed with the false assumption that marijuana is a terrible drug. These people need to stop being ignorant about the fact that marijuana being legal would purely be for the better. There are too many who still look down on the substance due to the false reputation it was given in the past. Most of those against the substance have never looked into the benefits marijuana has and may never understand that it has significant
The debate between prohibitionists and citizens who believe in the legalization of illegal drugs provide many arguments. Since there are many drugs that are illegal there are many different arguments on what should be legal and what shouldn’t. The biggest debate, and the argument that I will mostly focus on, is the reform of marijuana. Prohibitionists argue that marijuana has adverse health, safety, social, academic, economic, and behavioral consequences (Goldberg 183). Not only do they claim that it causes all of those consequences but it also can cause harm to others including family and friends (Rachels 228). The obvious argument in harming others is driving under the influence of the drug but proh...

The opinion of Marijuana during the 70’s was much more relaxed than it is today. Approval of Marijuana by 27 states, new medical studies, and its consequences on those convicted from use of the most common general, the argument about marijuana in this country is: should Marijuana continue to be given to citizens based on its health effects, medicinal values, and costs to the country? The reasons why this argument is so important are great. As previously stated, Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the world, and with millions of people using it regularly and almost 100 million that have ever used it in this country, the laws behind this drug hold great influence. It is because of this and the immergence of new evidence, that the justification behind prohibition of this drug is being rethought scientifically, socially, and economically. The use of Marijuana as both medicine and a recreational drug is being thoroughly questioned in the US. 27 states have Marijuana approved in some form, many of those for medical purposes however those users can still, and do get placed into prison by federal law. Currently, 830,00 people a year are in trouble with the law in regards to Marijuana and numbers seem to be on an uphill trend . Furthermore, the US invests 30 billion a year into the drug war, half of which is dedicated to Marijuana. Many are questioning its success all together. Both imprisonment and the war cost our country, and therefore our people, money. A change in laws is going to have a dramatic affect on America.
People should stop arguing about the use of marijuana and how marijuana is bad, because people only like to research the cons instead of including the pros. Despite the fact that people believe everything they hear, they should look up more and try to see how good marijuana can be for them. Marijuana is good for their health, and it has helped to cure people who are very ill. Marijuana is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol, there has been studies proven that people have died over drinking other than by smoking marijuana. Marijuana will be able to have less people prosecuted for the possession of carrying it around, which will help people not get arrested for a small amount of marijuana.
For years the United States of America has been waging a war against drugs. The U.S federal government has spent well over fifteen billion dollars annually on combating illegal drugs. Marijuana in this day and age seems to be one of the most controversial drugs, and is at the forefront of the discussion boards on whether or not one should legalize the drug. Marijuana should be legalized not only because the government could tax it while reducing the national deficit, but also because some patients need it for medicinal purposes, and this will lead to a reduction in the crime rate by removing the taboo from the drug itself.
...ill rage on for years to come. There will probably be many more studies conducted to ascertain the benefits and hazards in areas such as physical and mental effects, medical benefits and criminal activity with the same mixed results dependent on who is conducting the study. The nation will look to the states of Colorado and Washington to determine whether it is practical to expand legalization to more states across the country and eventually at the federal level. However, with all that said, ultimately it comes back to the fact that marijuana is equal to or less dangerous and addictive than alcohol, tobacco and caffeine and it is time for the United States government to end its prohibition. Prohibition did not work in the 1920’s and it is not working today. All the government is doing is senselessly ruining peoples’ lives with their absurd and ineffective laws.
For thousands of years human beings have attempted to find ways to get passed the struggles of their lives. With the pain of the world stopping people from enjoying simple pleasures, sometimes there is a need for help. Marijuana brings millions of people relief from the pain they feel on a day-to-day basis. This completely natural plant which helped so many people has puzzled the leaders of our nation for a long time. The THC in marijuana causes its users to experience a mild-huluciginic or high. The effect that marijuana has on a person has prevented the product from being legalized. Many other details about the plant, like the speculation of it being a gateway drug, have put another blockage on its legalization. Even though there are speculations about the plant, the benefit that it brings to the table most definitely out way its disadvantages. Marijuana can also alleviate several symptoms associated with cancer and Aids treatments and disorders. While Marijuana is effective as a medicine, it is also extremely lucrative. The economic benefits that Marijuana brings to the table are endless. Upon marijuana’s legalization, the economy would experience an immediate influx. Legalization of Marijuana would also drastically reduce crime in our cities and form a more productive society through its positive uses. The benefits that marijuana brings medically and economically are considerable enough to legalize its use medically or recreational.
In this analysis paper I will argue on why Marijuana should become legalized in the United States of America. In the United States Marijuana is federally illegal and cannot be used unless for health reasons. Currently in the USA there are two conflicting parties debating on whether Marijuana should become federally legal or stay prohibited. In the two articles, “Marijuana Legalization is a risk not worth taking” and “Repeal Prohibition, Again” argue on the two different perspectives. One states that marijuana should be legal in America and the other against its repeal. “Marijuana Legalization is a risk not worth taking”, written by Stuart
Lauren Villa, who possesses her Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and her master’s in public health, states the facts of alcohol versus marijuana: “Besides alcohol, marijuana is the most commonly detected drug in drivers involved in car accidents. One study found that marijuana increased the odds of being in car accident by 83% … When alcohol was involved, the odds of being in a car accident increased more than 2,200%!” (Villa). Although alcohol has a higher risk factor than marijuana it is still legal for adults 21 and over in the United States to buy and consume. Legalization of marijuana could be beneficial to the world today, but because society is fallen, similar to the civilization in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the regulation
Today, Americans are more in favor of legalizing marijuana than criminalizing it. 2013 was a successful year for marijuana legalization. Colorado and Washington both passed laws to make it legal for recreational use and now the majority of Americans agree that it should be decriminalized. Some states in the America have legalized recreational use of marijuana. They are Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and also Washington D.C. The purpose of this position paper is to explain why marijuana should be legalized. Since the recreational use of marijuana has been legalized crime rates have fallen significantly, tax revenue has increased, and the public understanding and research of marijuana has increased.
Marijuana is a mind-altering drug that you smoke in order to feel the effects. It is currently illegal for recreational use throughout most of the United States. Recently many more states have fought to make it legal for medical uses and won, but with many restrictions ("23 Legal Medical Marijuana States and DC - Medical Marijuana - ProCon.org"). Even though it is technically illegal in most states that does not stop people from growing, selling, or smoking it. It is known to be the fourth most commonly used drug worldwide. It falls behind caffeine, nicotine, and alcoholic beverages (“Marijuana”). The biggest controversy out there for marijuana is whether or not it should be allowed for medical uses. The supporters for both sides have very strong arguments; it really

Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long term effects it will have on its users. Some feel that legalizing marijuana will only open up avenues for the use of more potent drugs, causing an increase in criminal activity. However, a number of people question why it is considered illegal being it is a naturally growing
The legalization of marijuana is a controversial topic, but marijuana should be legalized because it has many positive effects and there is a lot of evidence to support why marijuana should be legalized in all states. Marijuana is a preparation of the cannabis plant and it can be used as a drug or as medicine. The primary component of cannabis is THC (Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol). This drug has mind-altering and physiological side effects when consumed. Marijuana can be used for spiritual reasons or recreationally. It is the third most popular recreational drug used in America, referring to “About Marijuana.” According to government surveys, more than 14 million Americans, out of 25 million Americans who have smoked marijuana within the past year, use marijuana habitually. Although marijuana is illegal in most
Is marijuana really as terrible as most people say? The marijuana industry is worth 141.80 billion dollars, and there are about 180.6 marijuana smokers in this world as of 2013 (24 Mind-Blowing Facts About Marijuana Production in America). Marijuana, more formally known as cannabis, is a very important crop in this world, and it should be legalized. Marijuana should be legalized because it is not dangerous, especially compared to the other legalized drugs out there today, such as alcohol and tobacco, it is beneficial, prohibition of marijuana is a useless waste of time and money, and because marijuana prohibition is unconstitutional.
