How do you measure the greatness of the two biggest NBA superstars of all time? Michael Jordan is significantly known for being the ultimate basketball player in NBA history. However, LeBron James is considered one of the top basketball players in the NBA now. There inspiring leadership and unbelievable talent on the court makes it hard for us to choose a winner. James is continuously breaking NBA history, but Jordan's mighty legacy is considered unbreakable. Why can't both exceptional players be valued and appreciated, rather than compared?
From the words of Magic Johnson, "There's Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us". Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York on the 17th of February in 1963. On this significant day, a

He became known for his natural agility, court vision, and winning shot. This allowed him to land numerous endorsement deals with companies, such as Nike. Later in 1995, major controversy revolved around the NBA as Jordan decided to retire from basketball to pursue baseball. This decision came from the death of his father in the 1992 to 1993 season. However, in March 1995, Jordan returned home to the Chicago Bulls and helped them win another NBA championship. Furthermore, Jordan challenged many teams on his rise to greatness, however, he never went up against LeBron …show more content…
LeBron James displayed the natural talent of an athlete at a young age, allowing him to attend the top school for basketball. In 2003, he was drafted to The Cleveland Cavaliers as a large forward, dominating at an early age. During that impressive season, James was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year, breaking Cleveland history as the youngest player to accept this honor. At only twenty years old, James averaged over 20 points per game, slowly building his reputation. He continued to outshine every player in the NBA, averaging 30 points per game.
James broke history records in 2005 when he became the youngest performer to score 50 points in one game. This led him to enter the U.S Olympic team in Beijing, China, bringing the gold home. James then led Miami Heat to another NBA championships in 2012 and 2013. His most recent accomplishment was this year when James led Cleveland to another NBA championship but unfortunately lost. Around this time, James was offered many endorsement opportunities, including Nike for $90 million. Accordingly, James is building a strong legacy, however, will it ever be able to match Jordan's successful
He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion, such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When comparing Jordan and James’ clutch capabilities, or their ability to handle pressure at key times, Jordan has the upper hand.
James explains that he feels like a son to the city of Cleveland. He says, “people there have seen me grow up.” The community watched him develop physically, mentally, and as a player. James grew matured from an eighteen-year-old kid to a twenty-five-year-old man. With age comes responsibility, and he is well aware of the situation, as well as the responsibility to lead the team. He engages the audience by using nicknames, such as “D-Wade,” “CB,” and “Riles,” to name a few. James refers to the team as his brothers, another indication of how influential family has been on his career and his life altogether. His emotions and values express that family is what makes him
During the time of Michael Jordan and the now present Lebron James American culture has changed a lot. Both of these two superstars show how American society love and appreciate their superstars. The society loves them both, they are both amazingly talented and have supporting fans that will always be by their side no matter what happens, through the peaks and valleys. These two allstars are beyond incredible and show their talent in a variety of ways. Both are very truly “Blessed” with their talents and capabilities. Both MJ and LBJ are two of the best to ever to play the game of basketball. Jordan and James are both good at what they do, Jordan and James’ passion to get to the rim and make plays really put a spark in both of their game. These traits that both of the stars have really make their fans and supporters love them even more! Both of these stars show how American Society love their stars and role models.
For many years Michael Jordan has been seen as one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. Michael Jordan was first drafted into the NBA by the Chicago Bulls as the third pick in the first round of the NBA draft of 1984, after finishing his college career at the University of North Carolina. Michael Jordan has been known for his high flying and stylish dunks ever since he first stepped into the basketball scene, but there is more to Michael Jordan than his ability to dunk.
He was drafted 3rd overall in 1984. (“Michael Jordan Fast Facts”). Jordan averaged .515% field goal .845% free throw 2 offensive rebound 4.5 defensive rebounds 5.9 assists .8 blocks 2.4steals 28.2 points.(“Michael Jordan Stats”). Jordan and the Bulls made the playoffs Jordan’s first year as a pro. He also got rookie of the year and went to the all-star game. Then his second season was cut short by an injury (Biography.com Editors). After his second year in 1986-87 Jordan was the second player to ever score more the 3000 points in a season. The year after that he was named the Most Valuable Player of the year. He got it 4 years in 1991, 1992, 1996 and, 1998. By the late 1980s the Chicago bulls were becoming more popular team because of Michael Jordan. In 1990 the Chicago bulls and Jordan won their first National basketball association championship by defeating the Lakers. While Jordan was dominating the NBA during 1980s and 1990s he started getting endorsements by Nike (Biography.com
To begin with, I would like to tell how Michael Jordan is the most well known athlete throughout the U.S. First off, mike has many endorsements that are popular in American society like Nike and Mc Donald?s. ?According to the bureau of food and drugs?, one and four Americans eat at a fast food restaurant each day. That shows how much Mc Donald?s has an affect on U.S. With Michael Jordan, advertising and supporting McDonalds then everyone will notice him and realize who he is. Nike is a footwear company, which thousands of Americans purchase there shoes each day. When Jordan came to the NBA, he signs a contract with Nike worth $30mil (Jordan Michael Bio). He created the shoes called ?Air Jordan?s? and created a line of shoes called ?Jordan?s? which made him very famous. Nike?s profits upped 20% through 1984-1986 helping them to be the dominate shoe company in America (?The Best Frequent Flyer?). Still in 2007 His brand of shoes are still making money in stores everywhere around the U.S. Nike sold more Air Jordan?s than any basketball shoe ever made (?Sports Illustrated For Kids?).
This argument is made on the fact that LeBron James has recently become the youngest player to score 20,000 points. Although I agree and congratulate LeBron on his great achievement, it does not make him better than Jordan. Despite LeBron reaching 20,000 points at a younger age, Michael Jordan was able to do it in fewer games. This phenomenon is possible because Michael Jordan went to college for three years whereas LeBron decided to go straight to the NBA out of high school. According to a blog done by the Chicago Bulls “It took Michael Jordan 106 less games to score 20,000 points than LeBron James” (Bulls Blog). No credit should be taken away from LeBron James because what he did to become the youngest player to score 20,000 points is phenomenal but it cannot be used as an argument to say that he is a better player than Michael Jordan because Michael Jordan scored 20,000 points faster than
...retirement, feeling that he had nothing else to accomplish. "This would not be the last time Jordan would see the hardwood ("Michael Jordan")." On September 25, 2001, Jordan announced his second comeback This seasons was ended early due to injuries that Jordan had to cope with. In the 2002-03 season, Jordan was the only Washington player to play in all 82 games and started in 67 of them. Michael played his final NBA game in Philadelphia, on April 16 2003. Michael would retire for the last time ("Michael Jordan" Wikipedia).
Due to the mark Michael Jordan has left on the world as the “G.O.A.T.”, it will be very difficult for any player to surpass his legacy. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James all have similarities of Michael Jordan but, out of all three players James is the closest. LeBron has the most similarities and the potential to surpass Michael Jordan’s legacy with his personality, stats and he popularity on and off the court. Even though James has the potential to surpass his legacy, there is still a very long journey ahead of James if he ever wants to be considered the “G.O.A.T.”.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. These players are on the battlefield, fighting day after day because they all know only one can become the Most Valuable Player. LeBron James rose above all, claiming the MVP award, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times. Not only is LeBron James an MVP, but he is also a 13-time All-Star player. LeBron James garnered enough votes from the fans, the players, and the media to become an All-Star like a presidential candidate getting enough votes from the voters to become the President.
Lebron is a four time MVP of the NBA (“Lebron James Stats”). Thats two less than Michael Jordan, who is considered the best player of all time. Lebron is also a three time Finals MVP (“Lebron James Stats”). Where as Jordan is a six time Finals MVP. James has also competed in International basketball play as well, playing for Team USA twice. He has won gold medals both times once in 2004 and again in 2007. He has made the all NBA team, eight times in his career. James also won Rookie of the Year in 2004. Lebron is a thirteen time NBA All Star (“Lebron James Stats”). James has also developed a lethal jump shot over the years. He has shot at .343 three point percentage for his career (“Lebron James Stats”). This makes Lebron’s game even more deadly due to him being a sharpshooting forward. He has shot .500% from the field in his career (“Lebron James Stats”). This means he has made half the shots he has attempted which is a pretty good statistic. Lebron also won ESPY Male Athlete of the Year (Lee). Which is voted on by athletes and sports people
How can you make an argument to dethrone a king whose legacy has been untouched for years? How can one touch an intangible mark in the world if no one has even come close to it? In the sport of basketball, Michael Jordan, a hall of fame inductee and a six time NBA champion, is a combination of the king and that intangible mark. He is known across the world as the greatest player ever, whose basketball level is unreachable thanks to his killer instinct, athleticism, and God given abilities. However, as of late, Lebron James, a four time MVP and a three time NBA champion, is being acknowledged for playing at a higher level than his competitors, resulting in others to believe that he is neck and neck with Jordan’s abilities. Even though Michael Jordan is the “G.O.A.T.”, Lebron James is better than Michael Jordan, making him the greatest basketball player of all time because of the impact he has on his team on and off the court, his shooting, and his playoff stats.
In his first season with the Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan averaged 28 points a game and voted to the All-Star game, because of all the attention Jordan received his teammates refused to pass him the ball. Instead of letting the freeze-out during the All-Star game deter him he went on to win Rookie of the Year. The following season he would break his foot causing him to miss the rest of the regular season. He would return for the playoffs where in the second game of the series against the Boston Celtics he set the record for most points in a playoff game with 63; however the Celtics would win the series and would later on lose to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Not only was he intelligent in school, he was also intelligent while playing basketball. His high school coaches stated “Lebron was such an intelligent player, he always knew when to pass it and shoot it and always came up with smart plays.” Even his team mates said he was the smartest player on the team, only showing how much more of an outlier he is. This court intelligence along with just his higher IQ for a basketball player was one of the reasons he became professional, he averaged 20 points a game with 3 assists (http://www.biography.com/people/lebron-james-399748). Lebron James now currently plays for the Cavs, he signed with Miami in 2010 and recently in the 2014-2015 season rejoined the Cavs, and the town of Cleveland went crazy. Since Lebron has joined the NBA he as such a broad fan base, everyone loves him including the town of Cleveland which is considered Lebron’s “home” because it was the first team he played for in the NBA. With the amount of time Lebron put into basketball along with his rough childhood I would say he deserved success. He had so many obstacles that he had to face just trying to get through school alone. But he stayed strong and pushed through it all. Lebron stated “I wouldn’t have made it without the support of my mom, friends, and coaches” (http://www.jockbio.com/Bios/James/James_bio.html)He is such a unique basketball
Michael Jeffrey Jordan is known by many people as the best basketball player ever to play the game. Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, helping them obtained six championship titles in eight years. Now remembered for being the best and the most popular athlete in the sports world. He had a great influence on the people. "Jordan was just another great legend" (Stein 2). Being a role model on and off the court Jordan showed his abilities to play the game and his kindness towards other people, especially those who admired him the most. "His widespread appeal to fans has helped keep basketball one of the world's most popular spectator sports" (Stein 1).
