There have been a variety of impacting factors on my life, that have determined how I view right from wrong. Not just through a social standpoint, but through an emotional and psychological perspective furthermore, my own observations from others family apart and so forth. A variety of critical factors have led to my own analysis of things, with that being said my view and perspective of what is right from wrong continually changes, but what i've received from past experiences and events have influenced and continually challenged my pervasive thoughts on things. My father and family background also influenced this pervasive lifestyle, that we all came from different backgrounds and nationalities, but making sure to respect and be tolerant of others was something that was valued above all else. That others and myself included, always may have been distinctly been different but, the act of knowing what is right and wrong played an important and resilient through this open understanding making sure others, weren’t viewed through the differences they carried but the positive values they brought, and sharing this lifestyle with everyone that has been introduced to my life. According to the article ‘Learning To Respect Yourself Through Respecting Others’, published by Gabrielle Flank on Huffington Post, “It may sound like a challenge to treat people, even the people who you aren’t particular found of with kindness, dignity and consideration.” (Gabrielle F, 2016.). Notably positive emotions have played a prudent role in my lifestyle, how I choose to go about living my life and interacting with others, and the decision making process. Maintaining an emotional balance can seem like a challenge but, the belief in my own lifestyle has always been keeping a positive attitude or composure will eventually lead to a more beneficial outcome on a variety of platforms over time regardless everything has a silver lining. According to the article ‘Positive Emotions’, published by Courtney Ackerman on Positive Psychology Program, “The effects of these emotions are in sharp contrast to the effects of negative emotions, or those experienced in a dangerous situation (e.g., fear, terror, anxiety), which usually have the effect of narrowing our focus and limiting our myriad options to the one or two” (Courtney A, 2018.). The author is trying to illustrate the fact that, without maintaining a positive attitude or composure, this can vastly change our pervasive thoughts to just a limited few in which a negative outcome can be created and a poor decision process that may follow leading to consequential or wrong actions. All of our emotions play a big role in our lives. Even though it does not feel like it at the moment, negative feelings can be a good thing.If we never become sad, angry, or scared we would not be able to appreciate the true value of happiness, we would only focus on ourselves and happiness, and we would become less alert to threats and dangerous situations around us.
Humans gravitate towards safe, loving, and happy experiences. But sometimes it’s difficult to be positive, especially when experiences feel overwhelming. In recent years, there has been a lot of research conducted on regulating emotions. With these strategies, we can learn how to control our feelings. There are two types of strategies: savoring and dampening. Savoring is the idea of noticing and relishing experiences, hardwiring your brain to focus on positivity. Dampening, on the other hang, is the act of suppressing or down-regulating positive emotions, out of fear, shyness, or modesty. There are many ways to promote positive emotions, but the focus of this paper will be on the differing implementation strategies. While there’s consensus amongst scholarship that savoring and dampening are effective ways in influencing life satisfaction, the scholars differ in their approaches leading to their conclusions.
As I experience college life, I realize my morals are different from others. When crossing the street, I always wait for the cars to pass and if I do cross I make sure they see me. This is also a safety precaution that I was taught because drivers are frequently distracted and do not see pedestrians walking. On University of Northern Iowa’s campus, drivers are used to waiting for pedestrians; instead, I find myself waiting for the cars to go when really they are waving me to cross. Other students mindlessly walk across the street not even thinking about the cars. Another moral of mine is the golden rule; treat others how you would like to be treated. However, other kids did not grow up in a town that taught this. So, I let others in the door first, open the door for others, or let them cut in line. While everyone else takes advantage of what I am doing for them and do not receive a “thank you” back I brush it off because I know better. Optimism is generally seen as healthy, while pessimism is generally seen as dangerous. The difference between optimism and pessimism is a difference in perspective and mindset. An optimist has a positive perspective and cheerful mindset, while a pessimist has a negative perspective and a gloomy mindset. There are consequences to both perspectives. But which has better consequences for one’s health? Assuming that it is moderated, pessimism is healthy for a person’s well-being. Pessimism is more realistic than optimism because it prepares people for an unpredictable and possibly negative life. Pessimism is also better for expectations compared to future surprises. Pessimists are either proven right or pleasantly surprised. Pessimism is a healthier mindset to have than optimism.

Mayer and Salovey (2001) maintained that emotions help prioritise, decide, anticipate and plan one’s actions. In order to effectively manage one’s emotions, one must first learn to identify and recognise them accurately. They should not neglect their emotions as this will reflect lack of self-awareness. For example, when someone lost their loved ones, they choose to be in a state of denial allowing themselves to be drowned in depression and sickness. They refused to get away from feeling negative and find solutions to overcome their emotions. These group of people face difficulties in recognising, identifying and managing their emotions.
