All tickets for the League of Legends World Championship finals are sold out within an hour, making a profit of $1.6 billion in revenue for 2016. (1) With the Los Angeles’ Staple Center sold out and thousands of fans eager to watch the two final teams compete for the world cup and a prize pool of $5.07 million;(2) e-sports are not considered a sport by mainstream sport media when it should be. There are many similarities between e-sports and traditional sports, one of the things that I would argue is the most critical in sports is that to be successful you must invest a lot of personal time to stay on top of your game. The time invested by players to be considered at a professional level in skill in a video game is

However, ESPN boss, John Skipper says “e-sports is not a real sport” but a competition. (20) By definition, sports an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Is that not what e-sports provide? There is no denying that e-sports require high skill to perform at a professional level, and there are some aspects of physical exertion such as training for eight to fourteen hours a day, or the physical and mental reactions it creates that Doctor Forbose explained. Undisputedly the world of e-sports provides entertainment to its millions of fans across the world. After all of this, sport moguls and faces of sports don’t consider it a
You see sports everywhere, on your TV and even your local park. The value of sports in the average American is astronomical, sports is a major priority in people’s life. Sports teaches young kids how to be successful (and not successful) at life. There is so much that goes into sports that people who never have played will never understand. With each sport there is specific skill that one must master to be good, and with that takes hours and hours of hard work. You can talk about a certain individual’s skill and capabilities that make him great, but the real value of sports lies within a person. Sports creates determination and a competiveness that can be used in other areas of life, not just sports. There are millions of kids who attempt to become professional athletes but as the level of competition increases the number of athletes decreases, very few of them ever becoming a professional athlete but they are able to take what they have learned from sports into different professions in life. When a kid spends hours in the backyard perfecting his swing it can translate to the kid spending hours of hard work in his job. Companies and business like to hire ex-athletes because they already know what kind of person they are, hardworking and
In the book entitled A Sociological Perspective of Sports, Wilbert Marcellus Leonard II says, “Many of us have strong opinions as to the value of competitive sports. Some of our beliefs are based on personal experiences, others are not” (219). I have my own strong opinions about the value of sports, most of which are based on personal experiences. I have been surrounded by, and involved in, competitive level sports my entire life.
One of the most popular events of sports are the Olympics. In 2016 a video games event was first introduced in the Olympics of Rio in 2016 (Chris Foxx). This being said, organizations are starting to consider it a sports and it isn’t because of the physical activity. These organization view video games as the future of sports because of the ability needed to professionally participate in competitions. The ability to play a game and actually be extremely good at it as to be considered a professional gamer has a lot of time and practice behind it.
...irst in the world of sports. If it is not, one day, people may not want to play sports anymore. People need to realize as much as they love the big hits and fights, the athletes, owners of teams, and the loved ones of the athletes will never enjoy them.
Between the food, the memorabilia, the revenues for live sporting events, and the sponsorships the sports industry makes a ton of money. And between the money and the jobs the sports industry brings, it’s a great contributor to the economy. According to a recent A.T. Kearney study, today’s global sports industry is worth somewhere between $480 and $620 billion. In 2009, the worldwide sports events market (defined as all ticketing, media and marketing revenues for major sports) was worth $64 billion. The biggest contributor to that $64 billion is the American sports industry, which earns $32 billion. As a whole, the American sports industry also contributes about 456,000 jobs. With the two most popular sports in America being baseball in second place and American football in first. The Major League Baseball’s 2013, revenues reached an all time high reaching over eight billion dollars. Meanwhile, the National Football League (NFL) made over nine billion dollars this past year in gross revenue. Helping the economy by bringing in a constant flow of money and jobs.
Sports are one of the most profitable industries in the world. Everyone wants to get their hands on a piece of the action. Those individuals and industries that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on these sports teams are hoping to make a profit, but it may be an indirect profit. It could be a profit for the sports club, or it could be a promotion for another organization (i.e. Rupert Murdoch, FOX). The economics involved with sports have drastically changed over the last ten years.
Sport is the new Opiate of the Masses it behaves in the same way religion does as it is used as a deterrent from our everyday lives. Religion main function is to preserve the status quo, which means that it serves the “haves” and keeps the “have-nots” down in their place. Sport may be very different from
Major League Gaming is highly entertaining to watch because you are able to see what happens when you work hard and practice gaming. Professional players are highly competitive and people will gather from all across the world to watch them compete. ESPN , a sports television network, broadcasted the MLG Dota 2 competition on their website and Heroes of the Dorm competition on ESPN2 in 2014 (Cerrudo). Tickets for the Dota 2 event sold out for the entire arena in just an hour after going on sale. Video games are games that allows interaction with one user playing against the system or two or more players against each other on a video screen such as a TV or computer monitor. Video games are good ways to understand and master skills in the game. When comparing Madden and 2k, the two games are very similar in a way such as, they are both a physical sport. They are both controlled by a person behind an analog stick. The games have some of the similar controls. The games are very effective in our youth lives. This effect could be a good and a bad thing, because the game could keep the youth in the house and out of trouble, or it could cause damage in the long run because of the youth being in front of a Television for a long time.
Video games can give players experience and knowledge, but they can also, at the same time, drain energy from a player by taking away vital sleep the night before a game . Video games can be a great source of basic athletic skills, improving hand eye coordination and visual search skills. Young athletes, who have been playing and practicing with sports video games have a greater understanding than older sports stars did when they first began playing a sport, but video games cannot create an athlete. Video games help athletes become better at their sport, but the video games cannot help a person become an athlete. "A better analogy for virtual training [sports video games] could be weight lifting: It’s an activity that won’t turn you into a professional athlete, but if you are one, it will make you better at your sport" (Suellentrop 20). Sports video games impact sports performance positively, but a balance must be found between video games and real life practicing, as video games can cause harm just as much as improvement for and athletes sports performance

Just like the National Football League (NFL) or National Basketball Association (NBA), there is a league for video games as well, called Major League of Gaming (MLG).
