Reflecting on Leadership In the time that I have been a part of the Presidential Leadership Class, I have gained a lot of insight on how leadership is constructed and how it varies from leader to leader. Personally, what that strikes me as the most important aspect is genuineness by recognizing and following your values. This will set an example in a positive way to the rest of the members in a group. Being a genuine leader is something that I believe will lead to the greatest results and the best experiences as a whole. Genuine leadership means living out your beliefs and taking them into account before making any decisions when leading a group. Growing up with mentors that have similar values to me has helped me to constantly revisit those values when making decisions. For …show more content…
Genuineness and trust go hand in hand. If I talk about how one of my ideals is everyone lifting each other up, I cannot go behind someone’s back and talk about how bad of a job they are doing. Even if that person never finds out what I said, the person that I said it to now sees that I did not stay true to that ideal and likely has lost trust in me as their leader. They may think that I will do the same thing behind their back or they will tell others about how I was acting against my values. As a leader of a specified group, I need to make sure that everyone’s values align with mine. While we are never going to have the same beliefs on everything, our core values need to be consistent. Deciding early what those values are is crucial to our success. If someone has a belief that is in contrast to the rest of the group’s, they will either be unhappy throughout the process or even test the strength of the group by pulling everyone in the opposite direction from where we were headed. They will cause the group to backtrack, causing a lot of likely precious time to be

What is a leader? Who are chosen to be leader, and why are they chosen? What set these certain individuals aside from everyone else? A leader is someone who can encourage even those with feeble hearts, insecure souls and self-doubting minds. A leader takes not only their vision but everyone’s vision and create one beautiful creation that is seen throughout the world. My experiences with leadership range from the worst to the best. Once holding a great leadership position myself, I can testify the benefits of great leadership and the disadvantages of horrible leadership. Through my experience with great leadership and the effects on the people, it seemed to the naked eye that everyone was thinking the same thing at the same time. In actually it was the leader uniting the members together on one common chord to produce a sound that would remain in the souls. A leader is someone who not only leads, but also encourages people to do their best, share a collectively common idea or passion with a group, and challenge the process of a traditional style.

Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power.
