In my first term in year 8 at Casimir Catholic college in Sydney, I was elected home room captain by my peers and teachers. During this time, the year coordinator approached me to assist with mentoring another student in my grade. Due to his behavioural issues, he was struggling to perform at school, and was continually getting into trouble. When the teachers asked him to name a trustworthy, reliable friend who could help put him back on track, he choose me. We were able to improve his attendance, reduce his detentions and regain his respect among his peers. Respect: I believe that in order to gain respect, you must first lead by example. I treat others as I would like to be treated. This is my greatest influencing value of leadership. …show more content…
I believe I have a strong resolve and a good sense of purpose. I am reliable and consistent in my behaviour, which I believe makes a good leader great. I am interested in these roles because I not only believe that I have the qualities of a good leader, but I am also confident that my peers would support and respect me in a leadership role. I am capable of making good decisions, and am also determined to make school a better place for everyone. I am interested in encouraging team spirit and solidarity in my peers. I love all kinds of sport and am prepared to support all areas of sport at St Teresa’s. As a house leader, I know that I can be a good role model and provide strong leadership to my peers. Some of the experiences that will help me be a good leader, are that I was the vice captain of St. Thomas More primary school, I was the class captain of Casimir Catholic College in Sydney and I was a sport representative of Casimir Catholic Collage in Sydney. I represented my school in cricket, rugby, swimming and cross country. All of these roles are an important part to every school and I am proud to have had these
After taking up the role of an SRC Rep. and House Vice Captain, I enjoyed them and learnt valuable skills in organisation and public speaking. My confident, respectful and fearless interaction with my peers and teachers has given me confidence in standing tall and expressing my
A well- rounded leader can be flexible in any situation given to him or her. I personally feel that I possess leadership characteristics well. I do not only possess leadership qualities for myself, but also to set an example for others. By doing this I might aid them in expressing their leadership qualities, no matter their field of interest. As I help others, they might see it in themselves to aid others in finding their leadership qualities.
Involvement in marching band, field hockey, and various other activities has given me many opportunities to show leadership. My first leadership opportunity was in eighth grade when I became a WEB leader. While I was a WEB leader, I helped incoming sixth graders get adjusted to middle school life and find their classes on the first day. I also met up with the sixth graders in my group once a month at lunch and got to know them while I asked how school was going and helped them with any issues they had. In marching band, this past season I was a marching captain for my section. I helped the freshmen learn to march, demonstrated proper marching techniques for others, and gave advice to anyone having trouble with part of our marching show. At the start of field hockey season I showed leadership by helping new players learn to play field hockey by demonstrating how
I see leadership as a daunting challenge in a school. There are so many factors to consider and how each decision affects so many different aspects of the school environment. I know I need practice in presenting my vision and mission to a staff and being an effective leader to get a community to follow my lead.
There are many different traits that make me an excellent leader and role model. I have achieved high honors for my academics every year, and posses many helpful
Leadership to me means helping and motivating others to help them excel in an activity. I would like to become a leader because my Muskoka experience in grade 9 was a great way to make me feel part of the school community. Muskoka helped me meet new people and create many strong and long-lasting friendships. I found that this experience made going to high school a lot easier and a lot less stressful. I feel as a Muskoka leader I would be able to pass on the same experience I had with the new students.
Though I may not have played a leadership role in the school itself, I do maintain a leadership role outside of school. I work hard to teach and show proper work ethic in my part time job as a team leader. In order to achieve the position, you must show leadership capabilities. The job requires you to oversee team members, settle conflicts with not only coworkers, but with guests as well, and help management maintain a safe and clean workspace. I believe that leadership is not just one person, but a team effort and as such as a collective we work together to achieve the same
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
How am I a leader? The best place to find examples of me being a leader comes from the Boy Scouts. As a boy scout I was the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) for my troop for a year and a half. What it means to be a Senior Patrol Leader is that basically you run the troop because Boy Scouts prides itself on being boy lead. An example for what I would do as SPL was I would plan out the meeting agenda for each of our weekly meetings. To go along with this process I would have to either delegate one of the older scouts to teach a skill each week to the younger scouts or teach that skill myself. I would also have to keep the boys from getting out of line because I primarily led middle school aged boys. Another Example of my leadership skill is my journey
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
For the last year, my sports department in my high school decided to make me the Coach of sport’s team. As an athlete’s leader it was a good opportunity for me to show my leadership skills, talent, intelligence, enthusiasm, self-efficacy and conscientiousness. Being a coach of my team, I had recognized my responsibilities to motivate the team members. Give them full support and direction to attain the team’s goal. I also tried to help my team members to energize their capabilities and
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
I am the type of person who sees what I want and will take charge to get it. I have watched others who I thought were leaders and have learned from their accomplishments and mistakes. The leaders that I have witnessed, all have had a number of characteristic that either made them struggling leaders or dominate leaders. Although leaders have many characteristics, I have found that 3 or 4 of them really show through their leadership. The three leadership characteristics that I possess the most are passion, standards, and positivity. I am passionate in all that I do, if I was not I would not be doing it. I hold myself to very high standards in all that I do, even when it is my best, I push to be even better. Lastly, I am positive, no matter what I need to say I always try to put it in a positive way and keep the energy bright and
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
