I am a product of the district in which I work currently, Kenedy Independent School District as a general education classroom teacher of wonderful students. The plethora of my experiences has led me to this position and will prepare me for a career in administration, regardless of the position I pursue. Many experiences have made me successful, while others have been learning experiences from which I altered my way of thinking and reacting. Ongoing learning and development will prepare my personal knowledge of how to enter a leadership position to affect faculty, students, and the community positively. It is with the learned behavior as a teacher and aspiring administrator that I will prepare teachers and subsequently students to become productive …show more content…
As a learning leader, I believe that encountering interpersonal events including parental involvement, committee agendas, and conflict, are a strong personal skill. A personal perspective of success is accomplishing a goal or plan a person intends to carry out with the result as expected or better. Throughout my time in education and past jobs, I have learned that leadership is evaluated by a person’s behavior, so it is critical to be reflective on my own behavior in and out of professional settings. I consider what my perceptions of effective leaders are and attempt to emulate that model. To introduce myself to staff as a new administrator, I would …show more content…
The purpose of education is to enrich the lives of growing human beings in aspects of social, economic, psychological, academic, and policy. Education is the path to prosperity, not in the form of currency, but ability to accomplish tasks with skills not innate, and knowledge acquired through instruction, experiences, and discovery. It is imperative educators work collaboratively to develop the most appropriate, moral, genuine, intelligent, caring, autonomous, and responsible students. In addition to educating students on arithmetic and language, educators must facilitate the acquisition of appropriate social behaviors amongst students and interactions with adults. Often students are missing this component when they attend school, and teachers and administrators must model and implement practices to teach students proper social behavior, language, reactions and responses. As teachers and educational leaders, it is our duty and honor to educate and guide students’ development into knowledgeable and contributing citizens of society. As I develop as an administrator, it is my goal to find strategies and plans to teach students about society and ways to contribute or function in a meaningful manner. Regarding social justice, we must teach students why individuals have or obtain wealth and various opportunities in society. As an adult, this is still difficult to grasp. I believe there is a difference
Being a teacher for social justice is more than just making sure you include all of your students in your discussions. It is being aware of the injustices that your students may have faced, are already facing, or may face in the future. With this awareness, as teachers, we should be able to reflect on what we know, and respond by using our resources to apply it to the classroom.
A leadership theory is a clarification of some features of leadership; theories have practical importance as they are being used for better understanding, anticipating, and controlling successful leadership. Hence, the main principle of any theory is to inform practice(Lussier and Achua 2009). Leadership theories could be classified into eight main categories: Great man, trait, behavioral, contingency, Situational, Participative, Relationship , management (Cherry 2010).
My definition of social justice in the field of education is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child and the British-Colombia School Act that state that every child has a right to a proper education (UNICEF, n.d.; School Act, RSBC 1996, c. 412). A proper education to me is based on opportunity. I believe that in order to have a proper education, children should all be entitled to equal opportunity in their learning process. Children should have equal opportunity to obtain the supports that will assist them in achieving their potential.
The principles of leadership and management are helps to understand the management style and make the effective decision. An effective decision helps to gain the success of an organization. Lots of way to manage and collect information/question for leadership and management which are describing in the below:
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
“Social Justice in Education” by R. W. Connell discusses the role of education in society and the implications that social justice issues have on education. Connell begins by establishing that education and social justice can be examined separately yet they are inescapably linked through the social medium of their implementation. “Education concerns schools, colleges and universities, whose business is to pass knowledge on to the next generation. Social justice is about income, employment, pensions or physical assets like housing.”(Connell, 1993) Three points validating the equal importance of social justice and the education system to people of all delineations are: 1.) in Western society public schools are key forums of social interaction and comprise some of the largest social institutions 2.) educational institutions are highly economic bodies and have become “major public assets” (Connell, 1993) 3.) teaching becomes a vehicle by which society is ultimately determined and has a great influence over society’s morality. Connell describes the meaning of justice in education as being “a question of fairness in distribution… equality.”(Connell, 1993) “Justice cannot be achieved by distributing the same… standard good to… all social classes.”(Connell, 1993) By stating this, Connell summarizes that in the attempt to achieve equality, unequal means must be employed.
As an administrative leader, I will seek to encourage, appreciate, and understand my colleagues, faculty, staff, and students. I will set high standards, be the first to adhere to them, and find the tools and knowledge to improve as well as help others to do the same. Through constant assistance, appreciation, and collaboration, I will help our school will be the best place it can be for learning, growing, and giving.

There are many school-wide behavior expectations that will included in my future planning to establish a learning environment and decrease disruptions in the classroom. For this reason, I will teach social behavior to students during my lecture and provide opportunities so they can interact among each other. According to Flannery and Fenning (2014), teachers need to recognize and respond to the need to teach appropriate social behavior at the same time they are teaching the specific lesson (Flannery & Fenning, 2014). I chose these expectations mainly because it helps students meet their needs with a positive behavior and provide opportunities for students to develop social skills. Teachers need to provide opportunities for all students to practice and enhance their social skills (Banks & Obiakor, 2015). Another reason why I chose these expectations is because it enhances student’s positive behavior of culturally and linguistically diverse students. For instance, different resources will be assigned to students where they will be able to practice their skills and change their attitude to become better citizens. For this reason, schools must begin focusing on providing students the skills, attitudes, and knowledge they will need to be successful in the pluralistic and interdependent world in which students will live and work as adults (Diaz-Rico, 2014). Providing meaningful
PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN LEADERSHIP VISION STATEMENT FOR TSGT JUSTIN KAUFFMAN MATHIES NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER ACADEMY 08 MAY 2017 INSTRUCTOR: TSgt JULIAN BLYDEN The most important concept I learned in this course would have to be that of Transformational Leadership; I have always had an issue with being wanting my subordinates to like me, and I would reward them with days off, or going home early. Sometimes I am a little too personal with my subordinates. For example, I consistently use their first names during conversations, instead of their rank and last name.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
CHAPTER EIGHT THE POWER OF REFLECTION AND STORY-TELLING This Chapter will help the reader to have a better idea of reflection, its techniques and how it provides the material for powerful story-telling in training, presenting or speaking situations. Introduction “Burned inside every Mentor’s past are nuggets of wisdom, knowledge and understanding... if they remain buried, they are of no use to you as a Mentor or to your Mentee. The reasonable thing to do is to take them out; and the extractive technology is reflection…” - Dr. William J. Rothwell & Dr. Peter Chee (Authors of ‘Becoming An Effective Mentoring Leader’) Indeed, the same may be true with trainers, facilitators, professional speakers and all those whose careers or
There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
