As many people help others in life, they can be known to have the potential to be an outstanding leader. Leadership is the act of motivating ordinary people to do extraordinary things. It includes having a strong, positive, inspiring attitude that others will believe in. Leadership is having clear communication so that others will work their hardest to achieve whatever is given to them. Leaders make an impact on others hearts with their ultimate passion which leads to making a difference in people’s lives. Many people in my life I could call a leader. The person who stands out the most is my older sister Marissa. Marissa has all the qualities a good leader should have and expresses them in multiple ways. Throughout her teen-age years she played soccer and was part of the business club DECA. She helped lead her soccer team to many wins and always tried to stay positive. As she is now a senior in college she is also a leader in her sorority. Marissa was Vice President of Alpha Chi Omega and is always involved and ready to take on any task thrown in her direction. Another great leadership position she held was having the opportunity to be a Gamma Chi. A Gamma Chi is one who gets a group of girls going through sorority recruitment and helps them along the process of joining a sorority. She was there to answer any questions they had and reminded them that no matter where you end up it is meant to be. As she is my older sister, I am always looking up to her. She is such an outstanding role model and I hope can live up to her achievements. Even when she does not want to do something, she always puts forth 110% and is positive. She is a great listener and I learn new things from her on a daily basis. Great leaders are defined by a posit... ... middle of paper ... ...alues and beliefs and always stick to your word. Help lead and show others who look up to you and always give it 100%. Always remember that people are always watching and learning from you so always lead by example! Methods: First we will check which velar sounds mrs. K. can produce better than the others. After that, we will do articulation exercises. We will train syllables in a CV order and words in CVC-order, but soon we will train syllables and words with clusters to make it more difficult. Mrs. K. has a moderate flaccid dysarthria, so we think that she can manage it to train in the beginning with complex words. That way, she will also have a higher chance of transfer to CVC-words (Maas et al., 2008, p. 2). The words we will use in therapy are extracted from the book “The Gruffalo” (Donaldson, 1999). If she can pronounce the words correctly on word level, we will try to produce small sentences with these words, so mrs. K. will be able to read this book to her grandchildren after six weeks. We will also train other words concerning her environment; names of her loved ones and things she likes to do. Every week, we will give mrs. K. some homework and try to involve the family. In that way, we hope for a transfer, so mrs. K. can apply the speech movements she learned in therapy into her daily life.
As most people know speech and language issues would only happen with children just learning to talk and tennagers in middle school to high school. The reasoning behind this is because most people don’t correct their children’s speech when they are first learning due to the fact that the parents or grandparents think it is to cute to correct, which only hurts the children more th...
I became inspired to become a speech-language pathologist when I first watched the film, Paulie. This film depicted a small girl, named Marie that had a speech impediment, which caused her to stutter. In order to improve Marie’s speech her mother would pronounce certain sounds and practice daily with her. While watching this film I began to realize that there is a number of individuals in our population that have different speech impairments. As I noticed how the character of Marie struggled with her speech impairment I sought to research the different treatments for individuals similar to Marie, and came across speech therapy and speech-language pathologists. I have always been fascinated by language and how it is essential in communication. I view speech-language pathologists as having a major role in helping

There is no leader in my life except my manager Colleen Watson. She is the only leader that greatly influence me throughout my life. Colleen is a leader to me because she taught me the benefits of caring for the environment and the simple things in life are not meant to be taken for granted. She is a good leader because she knows a lot of useful information and she connects well with all the coworkers. Colleen is an excellent leader because she doesn’t put anyone down or put herself before anybody else. She also taught me to be myself and live my life according to my beliefs.
It’s interesting to know that clinics like the one I volunteer for are approved by the Department of Education and can provide additional services to children who need them. I have been told by quite a few people that in the past, speech-language pathologists had to know a little bit of everything, and while that still holds true today, specialized speech-language pathologists are becoming more of the norm. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association offers SLPs the opportunity to receive their Clinical Specialty Certification, which is a step beyond the Certificate of Clinical Competence. These areas include Child Language and Language Disorders, Fluency and Fluency Disorders, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, and Intraoperative Monitoring; Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT), what the SLP that worked with Student A was certified in, is governed by the Alexander Graham Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language. As a future speech-language pathologist, I will be able to refer a child whose speech and language issues go beyond hearing loss to the appropriate SLP and work collaboratively with him/her; educators will be able to advocate for their
Speech Language Pathology helps solve or improve situations with language and speech. Some of the things that works are: articulation, fluency, and oral motor disorders. In the articulation disorders we can found: the difficulties in producing sound and the correct pronunciation of words. In the other hand the fluency and the oral motor disorders we found di...

Growing up in the small town of Livingston, Tennessee, I attended speech language therapy with my brother who is four years younger; I was only 6-10 years old when this occurred. The therapist, Ms. Susan, would use me during therapy sessions to play games and interact with my brother as she tried to elicit communication from him. From this experience, my dream of becoming a speech language pathologists blossomed. Moreover, I was very passionate about helping my brother learn to effectively communicate with his peers. During high school, I found great joy in helping students and adults with special needs. I often took Bryan, my friend with special needs, to local sporting events and found great joy in learning to communicate with him. As I learned more about speech language pathology by shadowing the school system’s speech language pathologist and volunteering with the hospital’s speech language pathologist, it became clear I was meant to become a speech language pathologist. Seeing Ms. Susan’s impact on not only my brother, but my family as a whole was such an enlightening experience.
Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
When I think of someone who is a great leader I automatically think about current and previous managers I have had over the years, and honestly I cannot say that any of them are the definition of a great leader. So after I looked up many different definitions of a leader all of them basically defined a leader in the same way, someone who leads people. So, a leader does not typically have to be a manager it could be a teacher or a parent. That is when I realize that a great leader has always been right in front of me teaching me great values, and that is my mother.
