Lawyer
Lawyers function mutually as both advocates and advisers. As advocates, they embody their clients in court by providing supportive evidence. As advisers, they advise their clients on their legal rights and obligations. Lawyers (also known as attorneys and counselors) can interpret laws and are to apply these laws to a specific situation.
Lawyers spend a large amount of their work time involved in researching precedents, which are past explanations of laws and the history of judicial judgments based on that law. Precedents are used to support a lawyer’s case in court. Every law firm has its’ own libraries and public documents to computer databases and the Internet that are available to lawyers for research. A large amount of lawyers have their own private practices that deal with all kinds of legal problems. Some go off to work for larger law firms, government agencies, and corporations.
What attracted me to being a lawyer originally if I could be perfectly honest is the salary that they make. Coming up from a poor background a lawyer was one of the few careers talked about while I was growing up that make a lot of money. But as I got older I found out that there are different types of lawyers like environmental and family lawyers that make less then say a corporate lawyer but are fighting for what is in my opinion good causes. ------------------------------

Police departments are typically structured into geographical boroughs, with uniformed officers dispersed to patrol a particular area. Officers in large agencies regularly patrol with a partner. During patrols, officers are on the lookout for any signs of criminal activity and are always on the ready to conduct searches or arrest suspected criminals.
Paralegals have become an essential part of today's legal system, and as the profession becomes one of the leading and fastest growing occupations in the U.S. economy; these individuals perform delegated tasks under the supervision of attorneys. Education has played an important part on this matter; it has facilitated this development by allowing lawyers to use these skills professionals as agents to delegate specific tasks such as legal research, gathering of information and the drafting of specific legal documents under the supervision and final approval of their principals. This has been very significant because now; we can enjoy a speedy process in a cumbersome legal system. From en economic standpoint, it has also been beneficial by decreasing the substantial amount of the legal cost a firm could incur if only lawyers were allowed to perform this kind work.
Many African Americans have contributed to the development of criminal justice field by their legal endeavors. One of these individuals is Thurgood Marshall, who played a role in desegregation in American public schools and became the first African American attorney to win a Supreme Court case. When working with a court appointed lawyer you need to research and follow up on guidelines that carry with your charge. You have to learn how the court system works. Lawyers that are hired by the court to represent the low and middle-income people are lazy in doing their job. There are many reasons why court appointed lawyers don't do their best for their clients involving the court cases.
Thurgood Marshall overcame discrimination by his dreams of going into the law field despite the racism surrounding him at that time. “Thurgood Marshall, the great-grandson of a slave, grew up in the South and experienced racism and discrimination firsthand” (Hitzeroth and Leon 9). Since he was raised in the South, a more racist part of the country, he was already experiencing racism at a young age. He could not shop in the same store, sit in the same section of the bus, or attend the same schools as white children and white people in general (Hitzeroth and Leon 9-10). Also, he was a cum laude honors student, but he was denied admission to the University Of Maryland Law School because of the color of his skin (Hitzeroth and Leon 10). Despite all of these events, he still chose to pursue a career in law. Thurgood Marshall was known in the NAACP’s Legal Defense as “Mr. Civil Rights,” because he fought many battles over segregation in the courts. Thurgood Marshall was surrounded by a team of brilliant lawyers, one in particular, Oliver Hill, from Virginia. Mr. Hill won many civil rights suits dealing with discrimination in education and wages. The civil rights movement included different groups with many priorities, all working toward the larger goal of social equality. The most highly educational law suit is Brown v. Board of Education. Oliver Brown sued the Topeka, Kansas, Board of Education to simply allow his own 8 year old daughter Linda attend a nearby school for whites only. Imagine every day walking by a school that have your grade level, riding a bus for miles to attend a school where only students of color must attend. On May 17, 1954, in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, and this is when the Supreme Court issued its historic ruling. It was Thurgood Marshall that spoke to reporters in New York City in 1955, after the Supreme Court ordered the desegregation of public schools. Attorneys ensure that society has a place to seek and obtain justice, giving confidence that restitution and retribution can occur within the law. Attorneys have a difficult job. They must know the laws like they know the back of their hands. Attorneys attend school just as long or even longer than most doctors. They have the difficult job of defending their clients or prosecuting the bad guys.
The role in which police departments follow is the detail of patrolling communities, responding to emergency calls of service, and conducting investigations in an effort to follow up reported crimes. Reactive policing is responding to a crime that has already been committed. What is the purpose of police officers? Are they here to provide safety for the people or are they here to just mess up their lives? All around the country the statement “protect and serve” can be seen on any police vehicle and any police building. But more often times than not the question arises, who are they truly protecting? Themselves or the helpless citizens of The United States of America. Over the past century crimes rates have sky rocketed; although these crimes are not being committed by your everyday criminals they 're being committed by the police officers that are suppose to be protecting the people. Police agencies have beautiful roles and functions in accomplishing law enforcement for protection and maintenance of peaceful, orderly, and safe society.
