Landscaping has changed miraculously over the years. During the Roman era it is believed that they used a good amount of landscaping in their everyday lives. They designed gardens with mosaics and water fountains. This type of art flourished throughout the Roman age but was lost during the Middle Age. It once again emerged during the Renaissance period. Landscaping design really took off during 17th century France when they began using new architecture to reach new heights in terms of sophisticated designs. This influenced a new generation of landscapers in 18th century England. The forming of huge landscaping parks

There are structural landscapes and landscapes with plants and trees. Many landscape designs have a structure and then they have the plant design in the center of them. Then there are just the structural landscapes such as waterfalls, wood carvings, and stone structural designs. Stone designs are seen a lot in landscape designs. They are used to construct eye catching structures with state of the ark designing. Landscaping is so intriguing that it makes your property values increase (Laverne). Studies show that buildings with landscaping have an increased property value. The landscaping gives the building better looks, and makes the person feel better about what they are living in. Garden landscapes deal mostly with plants and trees. These designs can be the most colorful because of all the different colors of plants. The use of landscaping with plants is the most popular mostly because it is cheaper than the more expensive stones. The most popular method of landscaping is gardening with plants. In other words, the care lavished on the lawn reflects the homeowner’s care of everything else about the home. The lawn itself may not be the object of desire.
An Example of a landscape sculpture would be Andy Goldsworthy’s work and how it folds into the environment around it; becoming one with it. Let us specifically look at his work “ Dandelions & Hole” . The piece is exactly what it says; it is a ring of dandelions with a hole in the center. To a passerby the piece could easily seem natural, mundane or be overlooked all together. The piece functions with nature and appears to be a part of the landscape. As a piece it cannot function without the landscape, not only would the piece feel out of place but it would cease to exist all together; the flowers would
This group was formed by American landscape painters who were present from 1825 to 1880. Their work constituted of interest in realistic illustration of nature and a fascination to celebrate precisely the American scenery. Until its emergence, most artists seemed more interested in making portraits than painting murals. Those who did landscapes generally always turned to Europe for guidance on subject matter and skills. Subjects similar to the other side of the Atlantic appear on their canvases mostly compared to American scenes, such as Norman castles, Greek and Roman ruins. In addition, much of the paintings done prior to the emanation of the Hudson River Schoolwereemblematic and therefore not necessarily intended to emblematize a real place. The school combines elements of romanticism and the art of Nationalism. Its Romantic nature provides an alternative framework through which to view and appreciate the nature in the world.
In his book Modern Civic Art, Robinson discussed various ways to beautify the city from avenues to small streets, the tenements, the administrative center, and the furnishings of the streets, comprehensive planning, parkways and so forth. Some of his ideas were only good on paper at that time but as the city evolved most of them have now come into fruition. He explained that the backyard should be as beautiful as the front of the house as well as the inside. (Robinson, 1903 p. 241)
Landscape architecture has been around since the beginning of time, but it was not until Frederick Law Olmsted came along that the idea of integrating design into the landscape with plants, water, and structures that it turned into a thriving profession. To many, Olmsted is considered “a pioneer in the profession of landscape architecture, an urban planner, and a social philosopher, one of the first theoreticians and activists behind the national park and conservation movements” (Kalfus 1). Growing up, he did not ever graduate from formal schooling and just sat in on a few classes while at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut. Instead, he acquired his education from being out in the world through traveling and reading. He had a hard childhood. His mother died when he was just four years old and on his journeys around the world to Europe and China, he became sickly with seasickness, paralysis of the arm, typhoid fever, apoplexy, sumac poisoning, and at times suffered from depression. For many years he went on a journey within himself to find out whom he really was and what he wanted to do with his life, career wise. Frederick had one brother, John Hull, who died in 1857. This left Olmsted feeling empty and at loss of what to do. That was when Calvert Vaux came and filled the space in Olmsted’s life that his brother left. Vaux convinced Olmsted to enter the Central Park Commissioner’s design competition with their design entitled the “Greensward Plan.” With the success in that project, Olmsted figured out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life, which was to become a landscape architect. Olmsted practiced from the years of 1857 up until he retired in 1895. Olmsted’s two boys, adopted son John Charles and biological son Frederick La...
Landscape paintings became of interest to artists as a way to depict nature, a man?s spiritual place in the world, and his relation to God (Pohl, 2012). The paintings of nature became a way for artists to express themselves visually and spiritually while also expanding what people could see, read, and feel (Pohl, 2012). Landscape paintings helped to grow communities and expand the western movement (Pohl, 2012). There was an issue between tearing down and using the resources of nature to build communities and to increase material wealth (Pohl, 2012).

How to create an environment suitable for human living when resources are limited is a challenging problem for modern society. My strong interest in photography and art has compelled me to become especially observant toward the relationship between human beings and the environment. I have come to realize that the environment we live in has suffered much damage from pollution and lacks competent planning, making it difficult to find beautiful scenery to photograph or sketch. I began to think that I could make use of my artistic gift, concern about, and interest in the environment by entering the field of landscape design and putting my effort into beautifying our surroundings. Therefore, after graduating from high school, I entered the Department of Landscape Architecture at ABC University.

Since the Greek and Romans influenced the Renaissance many of their gardens shared the same interests. So you would typically see things from those eras such as sculptures and antique figures that were mocked to look like the ones from those time periods. They were obsessed with out doing those before them so they would always try to create similar but more elegant and in their eyes, superior features. Not only did the Greek and Romans help shape the Renaissance gardens but their ancestors from the medieval period did so as well. So in their gardens you would still see things such as: flat square beds, symmetry, beds of simple, flowery meads, and the arched
Andre didn’t believe in writing down his gardening ideas and would only ultimately express himself though his gardens. Andre Le Norte’s first major garden design was the Vaux-Le-Vicomte which he worked on with a team of other architects. The idea of this garden was to make a large symmetrical arrangement of parterres, pools, and walkways. He also implemented “forced perspective” into his designs so that things would appear closer than they really are. The final garden was completed in 1661.
A city has to be beautiful, though the definition of “beauty” is so vague. The beauty can be physical, such as enjoyable parks, streetscapes, architectural facades, the sky fragment through freeways and trees; or it can be the beauty of livelihood, people, and history. As landscape architects, we are creating beautiful things or turning the unpleasant memorial.
The world we live in today is always changing, whether it be technology or the land. As these changes take place, society must adapt to them. Many things begin to change as a result of this and society beings to turn into something completely different. One of the most overlooked changes that takes place is that of the environment and landscape. The landscape is one of the most important parts of our society’s culture and has a great effect on how we live. It seems that nowadays, many individuals are taking advantage of the land and nothing appreciating it for every thing that it is worth. Its true that not everyone is going to look at the environment and landscape in the same way, however that is no excuse to disrespect it. Then again, a whole new argument can start from that, as different individuals are going to have different views on what disrespecting the land. Many positive things have come from taking advantage of the land, and also, there have been many negative things to come as a result of this. It all depends on how you look at it. One thing is for sure though, no matter what the case is, the land and environment we live in plays a huge part in each of our everyday lives.
When many people hear about the term “landscape”, they immediately think that it means “nature”. The natural landscape does play an important role in our society but what is more important is the landscape that we make and occupy. So, what exactly is “landscape”? The term can be illiterate in many ways but the definition given by the European Landscape Convention is perhaps the most useful and widely agreed one. It states that a landscape is ‘an area, as perceived by people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and human factors.’ This definition captures both the idea of landscape being physical like a tract of land, but also something that is mind and social shared, something that is perceived by the people. When it comes to Landscape Architecture, the International Federation of Landscape Architects says that ‘Landscape Architect conduct research and advise on planning, design, and stewardship of the outdoor environment and spaces, both within and beyond the built environment, and its
